No motel, but woman finds jail after mix-up
A Warsaw woman aiming to pick up a friend at a Warsaw motel found herself in trouble Friday after she mistakenly wandered into the Kosciusko County Work Release Center.
Instead of being welcomed by an accommodating desk clerk, the woman was greeted by Sgt. Floyd Knafel, the center’s director, who noticed the woman smelled strongly of alcohol, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
The odor was so strong, police said, it was noticeable from several feet away.
Police said the woman also demonstrated other signs of impairment, though it wasn’t clear whether that included her confusion about her location.
Although the center is a former motel, it bears little resemblance to its former purpose thanks to new signs, including a large Indiana sheriff’s star that adorns the building’s front door.
Despite the signs, the woman believed she was at the Comfort Inn, where she planned to give a ride to a friend, police said.
The woman was arrested and charged with public intoxication, a misdemeanor, police said.
Although police believe the woman drove to the center, no officer saw her driving, so she wasn’t charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Police said the woman remained at the Kosciusko County Jail on Friday on $300 bail.

this is almost as good as the guy that drove up to the speakerbox at the police department and ordered a whopper with fries. :-)
