Is it OK with members here if the Honda plant in Ohio does not want to be unionized?

It seems the workers at the Honda plant in Ohio are doing quite well. No layoffs in 30 years!!

Do people here think Honda is mistreating these Ohio employees? Taking advantage of them?

Can people understand the workers at these plants not being excited about becoming UAW members when Honda has treated them pretty well?

I know this place is very Pro-Union but is it possible that a autoworker can be treated fairly without the UAW being involved?

1. They have to because of unions

and everything unions have fought for for 100 years. I don't understand why non-union workers don't get that.

I'ts a big bonfire with most DUmmies thinking they know what is best for non-union workers.

UAW might as well destroy Honda in the USA the way they have GM and MOPAR.  It is only fair.

This post is so far over the top, this idiot must be climbing Everest and posting with Bobbo the Hobo's Ipad!

Hey stooooopid! If they're getting the same or better benefits as the union sheep, why in the hell do ya think they should pay dues to a union that inevitably will screw up their relationship with the owners?

You're a regular genius, aincha?

It's the "voting against their own interests" syndrome of the self-annointed intelligensia who know better than others what they need.  To the primitives frustration, no one worth anything cares what they believe.

My dad ran a non-union nursing home for decades. Pay and benefits were in the top 10-11% in the state. He successfully held off the union for years, based on the fact that nothing would get better - not really any farther "up" to go - and that most union shops were no where near as nice to work in.

After he retired, Union came in. Moral down, pay no better, benefits no better, working conditions worse, people started leaving left and right... But the unions promised everything was in better shape than before they came in.

Odd mentality.

According to the latest polls 80% would tell them to ESAD! Yet they are still sure they speak for the majority of Americans. Hell, just ask 'em, they'll tell ya!

This is a conditioned response.   I kid you not, I use hear this all the time from the union druids. "If not for the sacrifices of the long dead....yada yada yada" you wouldn't have:  [pick as many as you want] Soap in the men's room.  Clean air. Hot water. A lunch room. Safety guards on machines.  The forty hour week.  A paid vacation.  Free spay or neutering for your pet....

Only low life scum would take advantage by not paying dues.  Worse than a scab.   Of course the 'sacrifices' were made and benefits won by others years ago but that never matters when arguing with a union druid.   They are pre-programed drones.  Most union members have no idea how corrupt the organizations they support are at the top. Most dummies do not belong to a union (voluntarily).

I expect the workers regard supporting two corrupt institutions - State and Federal government - as enough of a burden, and don't want more deductions from their pay for the sake of a third.

Illinois has a 3% income tax, but I pay a 2% "working dues" off the top of my gross salary.  I pay the union close to the same amount as I pay in state taxes.

'bout the same here except we're a "right to work" state and union dues are voluntary. You can actually work a union job without having to join.

Growing up in a GM city (Janesville, WI), I have seen plenty of layoffs, plant closures, etc.  Over half the city was employed at GM.  GM would layoff their workers and then bring in workers from Detroit.  Which I never understood why.  I guess they worked for less?  Now the plant is closed and it's a ghost town.  I keep saying Nissan, Honda, Kia, Toyota, Ford, should buy the plant.  It's not being used.  It would kick up the economy in southern Wisconsin again.  But, it would be nice if it were NOT unionized.

59. I must be a bastard then
because I don't offer either and really don't plan to.

How about this, how about I pay you an agreed upon wage and you take care of your own retirement and health care? Nobody is taking care of mine. Managing the normal business of my company takes all the time and resources I have. I'm not in the business of managing a retirement fund and a health care system. That's not my area of expertise nor is it a management burden that I want to deal with.

95. Your business must be a failure if you can't offer standard market rate benefits.

My business would be failure if I had to pay those girls' insurance.

16. Sure they have.
But not even a tiny bit close to what the employers have done. On the balance Labor has been a net positive, thus any bad is outweighed by a much greater good -- no downside.

 It's ****ing sad.
  Go to hell.

That's enough, union talk makes me sick.

They have to because of unions and everything unions have fought for for 100 years. I don't understand why non-union workers don't get that.

Damn the rich taxpayer keeping what he's fought for for all his working life....take it from him and spread the wealth around. I should benefit from his hard work.

The two sound alike to me....Kind of a double standard you DUmmies have

Was there any response to this POS? I'd like to shove a non-union 8 yd cement truck up this one's butt, if I could get his head outa the way long enough!

If you pay your employees what they think they're worth, it's up to them to take care of their healthcare and retirement!

Haven't you been told yet? You don't hire workers now, you adopt children for life.

Someone ought to take that info from the Ammo thread and show it to the DUmmies where right-to-work states have had FAR better growth than states with closed shop rules.

69. How about this: you'd rather pocket benefits $$ than give it to your employees.
So they vote to join a union to force you to share the fruits of their labors.

How about that?

The law says they can do that. Darned good law.

92. Got any idea how much individual health care costs? You're gonna losw a LOT of quality workers--
maybe they have pre-existing conditions or dependents who do.

Good luck, Mr. "Average."

97. That way you cheat yourself and your employees out of cheaper group rates
but then some folks would rather work the employees to death and then hire somebody cheaper.

102. Yes because things are cheaper ...
When things are bought individually rather then in bulk by many.

Oh and I suppose you will give me extra money to make sure I can afford to get these things myself?

Wasn't there a time when benefits were seen as a way to get good workers?

As usual they miss the point entirely! I never saw a doctor or an emergency room unless I needed stitches or a bone set until I was 46 years young! Guess what DUmmies, I paid cash for those transactions! Any idea how much money I saved by not buying something I didn't think I needed?

News for the DUmmy Honda hasen't built cars in the US for 30 years, maybe Goldwings motorcycles but nothing else comes to mind.

According to Wikipedia, Honda has a plant in Greeensburg, IN, making the Civic; one in Lincoln, AL, making the Honda Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline, along with their "J" series V-6 engines; one in East Liberty, Ohio, making the Civic, CR-V, and the Element; and of course, the Marysville, OH plant, that makes the Accord, Gold Wing Motorcycles, along with the Acura TL, and RDX models....

The Indiana plant was their latest, opened in 2008....

Also noted in the footnotes:

Note: The Marysville plant started assembling motorcycles in 1979, cars in 1982. In February 2007, Honda announced that it would cease production of motorcycles in the United States in spring 2009.

I don't know if this has happened yet, but according to the footnote, Gold Wing production will move back to Japan to the Hamamatsu plant, which can assemble 600,000/year, compared to 75,000/year for the Ohio plant....
