The mother of a 14-year-old boy accused of making bombs out of dry ice appeared in court Tuesday.
The woman, 39, is charged with possession of a destructive device and child abuse. She was arrested over the weekend and released on her own recognizance.
Police were called to a home near 137th Street and Z Circle on Saturday. Police found and detonated an ice bomb in a plastic bottle.
Assistant Douglas County Attorney Eric Wells said the boy admitted to making the bomb and that his mother knew he was doing so. The boy was set to appear Tuesday afternoon in juvenile court, accused of possessing a destructive device.

Seriously? Several people at work played around making these things. You put some dry ice in a bottle , add some water , screw the lid on and throw it. Me, I prefer to fill a balloon with hydrogen and put a fuse on it.

Jebus--if they knew some of the crap I pulled when I was 14-15 years old, I'd have been arrested and shipped down to Gitmo for having WMD's. Dry ice? Seriously?
-
Sounds like a cool Science Experiment, not a crime :thatsright:
-
Good thing my other half was the age of this boy, 50 years ago. And the police had other things to do.
He, and a couple of his buddies, were experts at making rocket bombs by the age of 12....among other things.... :uhsure:
They were lucky and never got caught. All grew up to be upstanding citizens..... :-)

Acetylene torch + condom = big boom
Lead strips + red devil lye + water + glass bottle + condom = flying bomb.
10-10-10 + aluminumoxide +........get'n to big.

Buddy of mine is a Combat Engineer. We have had a bit of fun or more in their backyard. Fortunately they live in Killeen, and the booms are just ignored.
-
Well damn, I'm not even going to mention the shit my friends and I did from Junior High on, I don't really need a bunch of over-equipped and trigger-happy ATFE and HSA asswipes rappelling onto my roof tonight!
-
Nope, never made Polish Cannons.................... :uhsure:

That one brought tears to my eyes I was laughing so hard.....

Nope--never stole shit from the Chemistry labs. Never made time delay fuses with phosphorus and nitric acid. Never made contact explosives. Never made napalm. Never made fertilizer bombs.
Nope, never did it, nobody saw me, can't prove it.
Makes me wonder what they'd do to that kid who made a "fission pile" in his back yard about 20 years ago...

I can remember many years ago that there was a hardware store/hobby shop , that stocked quite a few chemicals for experiments. They had stuff that you'd normally find in school science labs. My favorites were magnesium, iron oxide and powdered aluminum. :)

Oooooh, sparkly! Not that I'd know, that was just a totally random comment...

What's wrong with kids today..
By that age I'd moved on from iodine based touchpowder to nitrated glycerin and was looking into picrates.

Well before they moved to Killeen, when they were in an undisclosed suburb further north, the authorities may have dropped in during a "celebration" if you will. I found the authorities down there a little more tolerant of such matters.

Not much, after highschool he joined the NAVY'
The link you sent Sparky, if you scroll down has a picture of what he looked like at the age of 31, out of the Navy and back to his old tricks. Arrested again for Same O Same O. I do hope if they sent him to jail this time they do not let him work in the Kitchen, Laundry or have any access to cleaning chemicals.

You know, the liberals are crazy. They want everyone to use bio-diesel fuel...shoot, you're only one step away from nitroglyerin when you make your own bio-fuel.
All us rightwing militia nut cases should be driving diesels....and stock piling the residue..... :rotf:

I owned a VW Rabbit Truck and was told that if I ran out of diesel I could use No. 2 heating oil. Is this kind of like using Karoscene.??
-
No, kerosene has considerably lighter fractions, it's basically the same as JP4 though. However that No. 2 heating fuel, much as it may be like No. 2 Diesel, does not have any road or fuel taxes cranked into it and if your State Dept. of Revenue caught you doing it (Or using farm Diesel sold for tractors) in an over-the-road vehicle, you'd be in some deep doo-doo with them over tax evasion.
-
I went to a camp and we put liquid nitrogen in a 2 liter soda bottle. Thing explodes and can shoot a ball high into the air. :-)

DPS is EVOL.

Yes, he did join the Navy, but he wasn't allowed to become a nuke. Just as well. I'd hate to take a shore power wrench to someone's head because they thought they were gonna breach the primary boundary and snag a couple of fuel cells.

I am glad I have a girl. Well, at least until she starts dating and wanting all of the expensive clothes. Hopefully we'll have another baby, and I am conflicted (not that I have a choice), boy or girl? Boys = destructive. I know. I had 2 brothers. Girls = expensive. ;)

Well, yes, but sons are so gosh-darn entertaining. You end up with all kinds of weird stories to tell from raising them.

Because you're a Twilight fan...

Riiiight...
If there's anything in that comment that connects to Twilight or any other stupid vampire media lore, I am blissfully unaware of it, I find the whole vampire schtick tediously silly.

Alllllright!! There's someone else out there who doesn't care for the vampire stuff! :hi5:
I can't watch vampire movies, and I don't read vampire books. I waver between thinking it's weird to it's creepy, depending on the so-called "plot".

I can't figure it out, either. (Do we have a "head-scratching" emoticon?)

Welcome to the "new" America. Every freaking thing you do today, that was ignored 20 years ago, is now a felony. The bar for a felony is so low in this nation that a good chunk of the population will be convicted felons in the not so distant future.

So what by law is a felony and just exactly what does the word mean , in law. ?
//////////growing up I was taught that to be convicted of a felony one would loose a whole bunch or civil rights---such as the right to vote, that was a biggie and the right to bare arms.
Have the laws changed while I was asleep at the switch ??

That surely can't be a serious question????

I guess if we're not talking about things we never did as kids, I shouldn't mention my days as an amateur electronics designer, breadboarding circuits to go into the nose-cones of my model rockets.
If Santa had only know where that "Science Fair 200-in-1 electronics kit" would lead, I'm sure he'd have just sighed and brought me the lump of coal instead.
