This is pretty good. A few DUmmies get the fact that all the amendments are applicable.
With emoticon only commentary... hopefully. :-)
Let's get it on! (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8649790)

I am sure this will make gun grabbers gnash their teeth but they are on the wrong side of history.

Always the silly off the mark specualtion.
Many state already have a 2nd amendment like protection in the State Constitution.
How many of those states extend gun ownership to felons, children, mandatory ownership, and mandatory carry?
VA for example has had a 2nd amendment like protection in it's State Constitution for over 200 years. No mandatory carry or felons owning guns yet. Maybe it will happen at 237 years?

24. Chicago has a gun ban yet has a murder rate 3x the national average.
You can ban civil rights just because it make the job easier (however in this case it is both a injustice AND has no effect on reducing crime/violence/murder).
The only person Daley was keeping guns from was the law abiding like the plantiff in the case.
I think he meant "can't"

11. Oh, goodie! More guns!! Guns always make things better.
Two problems: You don't find out that the freak with the permit to carry is a freak until someone's dead. Then, of course, it's too late.
And, you have to trust EVERYONE. Period. Because you don't know if they have a gun or not. You don't know what their temperament is. If you don't trust a stranger with your 8 year old daughter, you can't trust that stranger with a gun. Period.

53. The solution is obvious: repeal the 2nd ammendment.
Replace it with something along the lines of "Armed militias being the worst possible threat to the security of a free state, the federal and state governments shall pass such laws as they deem necessary to regulate the ownership of weapons to protect their citizens".

And you're saying that Chicago is safe now with a gun ban? Have you looked at the murder rate & heard how many shootings there have been already this summer?
-
Banished to the gungeon. Gotta get it off the front page.
-
This ruling should've been 9-0 not 5-4, and this is 1 of those times where elections have consequences, Obama is replacing a 2nd SC Justice and thank God they're both liberal Justices so far, this is why we need a conservative majority in the Senate and hopefully in 2012 for the Presidency. The closeness of this ruling is terrifying to me.
-
Oh and to the DUmmies ticked at this ruling? just look how wonderful gun control has worked in Chicago! ::)
-
When law-abiding Chigagoans start to arm themselves, and the crime rate plummets, what will the DUmmies do?

Deny reality like they have every time their insanity is proven to be well .... insanity.
-
Last century over 200,000,000 were murdered by governments world wide, yet the DUmmies want more government and fewer firearms in the hands of honest civilians. Inter3esting, but insane, way of thinking.

They'll do the same thing DC did. Make it illegal to sell guns in Chicago propper and illegal to import them from anywhere else. I doubt much will change.

OK, I'm know I'm expecting too much to get the DUmmies to think as though they have some logic, but I'll give it a try. Please tell me how taking guns out of the hands of honest citizens helps those same citizens? Maybe in DUmmie LaLaLand criminals wouldn't illegally try to obtain guns, but in real life they have access to real guns and don't care about the laws, and in turn this make law abiding citizens vulnerable to the criminals. Like it or not criminals will always have access to guns, even if all guns were outlawed. How difficult is this to understand?

DrDan ..... I have just one quote for you;
"Those who would give up essential liberties to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"
I'll give you just one guess as to who said that.

Keeping the honest citizens disarmed keeps the democrat voter base strong, healthy and making money via their gun related crimes. If the voters are happy then the dem politicos are happy. Arming the honest empowers the intended victims to stop crimes and they may just get uppity enough to overthrow the enablers of criminals. Since they can't allow that to happen they will use any means they can to keep potential victims disarmed.

Never wanted one all the years I lived in Texas. Can't wait to get one now that I'm in Chicago. I don't like Shortshanks Daley telling me what to do.

I live in what is supposed to be a reasonably safe neighborhood. Sadly, I'm surrounded by the leftards who have turned it into a white guilt playground for disenfranchised southside youth. Unfortunately, the ones who come up are looking for easy targets to attack, and a place called The Center on Halsted has encouraged thugs to come up on the el, hang around all day at their facility, and then terrorize the neighborhood at night. Quite a few people were hurt last summer by roving gangs. Scary situation, and sadly one that was welcomed with open arms.

I'd say that this isn't a mistake on his part. They really do believe that this is an option.

I heard about this on Rush today as I was out and about.
In the opinion of the court, they cited the right of freed slaves in 1865 to keep and bear arms as an example of what the 2nd Amendment intended. Here is part of what was quoted:
In debating the Fourteenth Amendment, the 39th Congress referred to the right to keep and bear arms as a fundamental right deserving of protection. Senator Samuel Pomeroy described three “indispensable†“safeguards of liberty under our form of Government.†39th Cong.Globe 1182. One of these, he said, was the right to keep and bear arms:
“Every man . . . should have the right to bear arms for the defense of himself and family and his homestead. And if the cabin door of the freedman is broken open and the intruder enters for purposes as vile as were known to slavery, then should a well-loaded musket be in the hand of the occupant to send the polluted wretch to another world, where his wretchedness will forever remain complete.†Ibid.
IOW, the liberals who are opposed to this ruling are saying that if they were living back in 1865, they would have been opposed to slaves owning guns for protection. Brilliant play by the Justices who inserted this reminder.
And that this didn't pass 9-0 is upsetting, but these are gun grabbers and imperialist who want to make all men slaves to their form of dictatorial gov't.

I love living here and still feel safe for the most part. I'm just sad that this area (LP/Lakeview) has invited a criminal element to come in and have free reign. It bothers me when minorities commit crimes but the PC brigade won't report on it because it will paint them in a bad light. Crime is crime, no matter who commits it.
I never lived in Ft. Worth. What part of town were you in? I like visiting but rarely go. Last time I was there I went to Tim Love's restaurant (Lonesome Dove). Off topic but highly recommended for anyone who reads this.

What'll happen eventually will be those same whites will see the neighborhood becoming unsafe and instead of pointing fingers they'll just up and move and there's goes another neighborhood in Chicago.

To be honest there is no real safe place to be ,even here in my corner of SW Iowa we have had more meth labs spring up then farms and all the crime that goes with it. The State finally followed most others and did two things .First they locked up psuedophedrine and secondly and most important they just recently gave all of us the right to carry concealed without having to justify a need. Now if only they would just do it like Arizona.

Yep. One justice away.

Yes, how old is the saying "if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns". One only has to look at what is outlawed now. Drugs, anyone think they would have a problem buying some crack? I could go to town and get crack faster than I could get a gun! How about prohibition? Did that keep alcohol out of the hands of people that wanted it? Fact of the matter is the ONLY reason the Govt has to want to ban guns is to control the populace! Libs think thats a good idea! :banghead:
-
Very much true! Thanks for this! This criminals wouldn't be criminals if they know how to abide the law. This law only makes honest citizens vulnerable to criminals, I agree. one more thing, couldn't get any worse than this, Rahm Emanuel is running for mayor of Chicago! There has been a lot of speculation over the future of Emanuel. Shortly, Obama will need a new Chief of Staff as Emanuel is leaving for greener pastures. He isn't really quitting to farm cabbages either. Rahm will probably run for Mayor of Chicago. The retirement of the current mayor, Richard Daley, at the conclusion of his term raised the possibility. Rahm has been known to covet the job. Therefore, once the opportunity came up, people were talking about this.
The Obama gang 's way of creating jobs.....more lawyers, more judges, more police and fewer prisons.

Far be it for me to defend a DUmbass but in full context of what he is saying I think he is ridiculing gun-grabbers for wanting to take the easy way out when dealing with crime. As evidence note how he states Chi-town has a higher murder rate even with such draconian laws. He also calls gun ownership a civil right and his criticism of Daley.
For the most part Statistical is a jackass but he has this one right.
That also means you're right since Stat is noting some libs do in fact believe that restricting civil rights is a cheap substitute for difficult law enforcement.
-
IF the Dummies had the brain power they would look at the crime rate in Kennesaw GA after the passed a law making gun ownership mandatory with exceptions for religious reasons and see where things went.

I have read that the meth epidemic is a huge problem in the Midwest. It is worse than the crack epidemic of the 1980s.

It ain't just in the Midwest.
Here in the Southeast, especially along the I-81 corridor, more meth labs were busted in 3 counties than in the rest of the state of Virginia! It's not as bad as it was 3 years ago, but it's still bad.

I've been told, in appraisal courses by various instructors, that meth labs are now an "occupational hazard," and should be considered when accepting rural appraisal assignments.
