I've given this a lot of thought, but everything I come up with runs smack into the law of unintended consequences.

Nonetheless, suppose some magic sky wizard, or genii, granted you those three wishes. I'd really like to hear what you'd wish for.

I'd say
1 All our basic human freedoms will be protected until the end of time.
2 That all who work hard for what they have will be able to enjoy the fruits of their labor. and those who truly can not work will be taken care of by their community.
3 That we defend our borders and take action against those who want to destroy our way of life and kill innocent people.

Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 01:57 PM by Cal Carpenter
2) the rising up of the working class globally to seize the means of production and government

3) ? I can tell you what I envision as an ideal next phase but it's up to the people, not my whims.

Great idea but who is going to finance all this?

4. No violence of any kind (includes war), No hunger (everyone gets good food), ...

true justice for all(including nature).

If there was true justice half of DU would be forced to get off the couch and find a damn job.

12. First and foremost

I would wish that religion does not cause the world to continue to fight. I think religion is the main cause of most conflicts to day.

Then I would wish that peoples attitudes about each other would be more compassionate. I don't like the way people like tea bags and radical republcians use the fact that just because a person is different they should be shunned and picked on.

If those two were fulfilled I would wish that the hungry of the world would be fed.

There is some truth to that only it is the Muslim religion that brings wars but you are a bigot if you mention that.
Most wars boil down to pure greed someone always wants what someone else has. Which happens to be the first commandment of liberalism.

14. replace religion

with secular humanism.

Eliminate mental and physical disease.

Increase the intelligence level of the "average" human being.

Then DU would either shut down, or convert to a conservative site.

Is this what liberal policy-making and politicking has degenerated into?  Making wishes?

What you really wish for is comfort and power over the little people.

Never can there be a benign collective because human nature won`t allow it.

This primtive steps into the realm of the "law of unintended consequences" right off the bat.

Has it ever occured to them that capitalism is the direct result of freedom?  Given how much they prefer dictatorial authoritarianism, no doubt they'd be a happier form of miserable.

No violence of any kind (includes war),

If that's what you really want, it's got to start with YOU and your attitude towards those with whom you disagree.  Violence is the result of conflict, and conflict is created when one doesn't respect the viewpoint, conditions, experiences, etc... of another.  L0oniX primitive, how many times have you said things about your political opposition that was not flattering?  Because every time you did, you created conflict which is the forerunner to possible violence.  You really want no violence of any kind?  Then you'll demonstrate it by not saying things about your political opposition that can in any way be viewed as negative, and thus causing conflict.  We'll be waiting to see just how serious you are about not wanting violence.

I don't like the way people like tea bags and radical republcians use the fact that just because a person is different they should be shunned and picked on.

Sometimes this stuff writes itself.  Complains about some who are being picked on while using words to describe people with the intention of picking at them.

Attn primitives:  When you wonder why you're marginalized in the world, look no further than the mirror.

I know I am too fallible to be entrusted with that power, but if I was, I would have a Hell of a time and a lot of people would just have Hell.
