Title: House narrowly passes campaign spending disclosure bill

(CNN) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill that would require most independent groups that pay for campaign ads to disclose their donors.

The measure passed on a 219-206 vote, mostly along party lines with Democrats in support and Republicans opposing. The Senate is considering taking up its own version of the bill.

Referred to as the "DISCLOSE Act," the bill was pushed by House Democrats to respond to a Supreme Court ruling in January that struck down key provisions of campaign finance laws restricting spending by corporations, unions and independent groups.

President Barack Obama issued a statement Thursday praising the House for passing what he called "a critical piece of legislation to control the flood of special interest money into our elections."

According to Obama, who has criticized the Supreme Court ruling, the act would "give the American public the right to see exactly who is spending money in an attempt to influence campaigns for public office."

Mark Levin was talking about it on his show with Cleta Mitchell. Here's a couple of stories on it and how important it is to call your Senator, I think Mitch McConnell said he would filibuster this, and I'm ticked at the NRA being silent on it because they received an exemption, if they caused a stir this would've most likely been defeated.

Here's an LA Times article from yesterday:

Here's Cleta Mitchell's column on it from last week:

Most big organizations are exempt under it, including the NRA and unions.  I hope the courts strike this down just because of those exemptions.  There is also some fear that it could be applied to political blogs.

The only problem is how long will it take to get to the Supreme Court?

Not soon enough to effect the elections this year, but it needs to be law before it can be challenged.

. Let me repeat, there are criminal provisions in this bill which include JAIL for expressing political views and not following the byzantine reporting rules which noone will be able to understand.

Please change that graphic.  That's the first thing I have to see when I call up CC?  Gaaah!  Looks like they're making sweet, sweet love.

These exemptions amount to a Bill of Attainder, IMHO.  Unconstitutional, but who cares about that anymore?

I almost never go to the home page of the forum. I go straight to the board listing so I don't see that picture. :)

Don't worry, at her age the mere promise of sex gets the same reaction.

OR...maybe someone told her to stick it....and she did.

I am not sure this will go anywhere in the Senate, the Dem Senators have at least as much dirty laundry they don't want aired as the Republicans do on this, I would not be surprised at all to see it die in committee if an actual S.B. even gets introduced at all...especially with a crook like Reid as Majority Leader.

I think he honestly is so wrapped up in lies that he believes what he says.
