bu$h* legacy...Supreme Court Affirms Ban on Aiding Groups Tied to Terror
WASHINGTON — Rejecting a First Amendment challenge, the Supreme Court on Monday upheld a federal law that bans providing “material support†to terrorist organizations.
The decision was the court’s first ruling on the free speech and association rights of American citizens in the context of terrorism since the Sept. 11 attacks.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the majority in the 6-to-3 decision, said the law’s prohibition on providing some forms of intangible assistance to groups said by the State Department to engage in terrorism did not violate the First Amendment.
“At bottom, plaintiffs simply disagree with the considered judgment of Congress and the executive that providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization — even seemingly benign support — bolsters the terrorist activities of that organization,†the chief justice wrote. He was joined by Justices John Paul Stevens, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, Anthony M. Kennedy and Samuel A. Alito Jr.
“Given the sensitive interests in national security and foreign affairs at stake,†Chief Justice Roberts continued, “the political branches have adequately substantiated their determination that, to serve the government’s interest in preventing terrorism, it was necessary to prohibit providing material support in the form of training, expert advice, personnel, and services to foreign terrorist groups, even if the supporters meant to promote only the groups’ nonviolent ends.â€

2. sad
The Humanitarian Law group and others sued in an effort to renew support for what they described as lawful, nonviolent activities overseas.
"The Supreme Court has ruled that human rights advocates, providing training and assistance in the nonviolent resolution of disputes, can be prosecuted as terrorists," said Georgetown University law professor David Cole, who argued the case.
"In the name of fighting terrorism, the court has said that the First Amendment permits Congress to make it a crime to work for peace and human rights. That is wrong," Cole said.
Obama administration lawyers defended the law and called it a vital weapon in the government's effort to fight terrorism.

Only these two replies so far.. Maybe some realize that disagreement with the ruling makes them look more like the terrorist supporters that they are.

This would rule out donations to most democrat campaigns.

Uh.........what non violent portions are there in terrorist groups?

It's not like any of those cheapskates would donate to anything but DU or their own weed-and-Cheetos fund anyway, beyond maybe a can of peaches.

The sad fact is that the United States is a state-sponsor of Islamic/Arab terrorism:
http://www.usaid.gov/wbg/home.html
"The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funds programs that help people living in the West Bank and Gaza lead healthier and more productive lives. Since 1994, Palestinians have received more than $2.9 billion in U.S. economic assistance via USAID projects - more than from any other donor country."
----------
Thus freeing up other money to fund murderous attacks on Israel. Or for that matter on American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, because every dollar Hamas doesn't have to spend on "infrastructure" is a dollar or shekel or whatever that Iran can not give to Hamas and use to fund attacks on our soldiers. That's assuming any of this money got to the right place at all to start with (though even "humanitarian aid" to an avowed enemy sounds like crazy crap to me. "Here Mr. bin Laden, here's $2 billion..."). Remember these subhuman monsters cheering when we were attacked in 2001? And our tax money is diverted to them. While the left and other assorted anti-Semites (which, sadly, includes many Ronulans) complain about our aid package to the single outpost of decent Western-like civilization in the mideast. Makes me sick.
-
Wait a minute--maybe USAID can be challenged on the basis of today's USSC ruling.

So when can I expect arrests at peta headquarters?

Don't know what's up. Every once in a while I get a frame where the pic should be, but more often I see no pic at all, just the caption.
Are you runnin' FireFox or IE?

I knew the answer before I went back and checked, but it's because his avatar is linked from a remote location instead of uploaded to here. In this case he's got it linked from some music site so if they go down so does his avatar. If he'd right click, save to desktop and then browse it up and upload it then he could host it here and it'd always show.
