Quote
On June 18, 2010, Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told the audience at a North Tempe Tea Party town hall meeting that during a private, one-on-one meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, the President told him, regarding securing the southern border with Mexico, “The problem is, . . . if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’” [Audible gasps were heard throughout the audience.] Sen. Kyl continued, “In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with ‘comprehensive immigration reform.’”

Sen. Kyl also said he reminded President Obama that the President and the Congress has an obligation, a duty, to secure the border.

If that is true and verifiable then it is impeachable.

I'll admit that we need immigration reform. However, I'm not sure that the type Chairman Maobama has in mind is what would be good for the country.

The White House has issued a statement, basically calling Kyl a liar.

And we are supposed to believe anything that the WH is saying these days?

I'll have to admit, I have no clue why we "need" reform. My grandparents came over here when the laws for sponsorship were more strict, and it wasn't a problem. Does it take a long time? Yes. Should it? I don't know. Is it easier than it was? According to what I udnerstand about my Grandparents, yes.

I suspect, but don't know for sure, if we enforced the laws, the conversation of "reform" would be diminished greatly.

As for the Kyl being called a liar... That's funny as hell given the WH's response to Obama being called a liar.

What doesn't make sense is this business about a "private" meeting with Lord Zero. The last time I checked, a "private" meeting is one in which no record is taken of the conversations AND nobody divulges the essence of those conversations.

Why would Kyl simply demonstrate a level of untrustworthiness that is equaled only by Lord Zero and his minions?

From what they said on Fox News, it was a meeting of several people, but this happened between Kyl and Lord Zero after the others had left.

I'm not sure who is telling the truth, but it makes Lord Zero's attack on the Arizona law look mighty suspect, along with the administration's unwillingness to defend the border.

We all knew the "comprehensivists" were doing this, didn't we? Insisting that we can't have bortder control without amnesty? I mean, this isn't news to me, except for the report about Obama being stupid enough (or arrogant enough) to talk about it.

I'll take arrogant for $2000, Alex.

Considering how fundamentally traitorous this statement by Obama is, I can't fault Kyl for disclosing the conversation's gist.

Let Obama deny it, now, and call Kyl a liar. He won't, though, because he's proud of his treason, as all the Dem "progressives" are.

Well, leaking the information DOES put Kyl out there in the limelight where there is no such thing as bad press.

I'm convinced Lord Zero has no idea of the ramifications that he's espousing. In the event he's called on it later (kinda hard since he doesn't do press conferences all that often), he'll parse and parry and deflect everything that's thrown at him.

Treason is treason and Kyl has a duty to report it. ODUmmy is going to deny it, as a matter of course. Just don't ever forget Franks rule #1.

The shame of it all is there's no proof beyond he said/he said. Allowing this country to be invaded by hostile forces to further a political agenda is agonizingly unbelievably criminal and he's getting away with it. This is not a POTUS, this is nothing more than a POS

This is precisely my point. While Kyl's statement makes great press - momentarily - it also paints him as being the same kind of thug that Lord Zero is.

OTOH, Thugdom is the place that used to be called Camelot. It's what we expect anymore.

may not need to be proof.

Obama has to come down on one side of the fence on this one. Either he didn't say that, which may obligate him to act... or he did say it. Kyl may have played this very well.

It's been the left's position all along that securing the border has to be tied to comprehensive immigration reform amnesty.

To be fair, we've had 3 GOP administratoins and 2 DNC aministrations since 1980 (if I can count correctly) and none have done anything to secure the border. This is more than just a party issue, IMHO.

It is a party issue to the extent that the current conservatives within the Republican party absolutely would control the border, and not grant any sort of amnesty (and would probably amp up internal enforcement). Since there's no such faction vying for control within the Dem party, there is zero hope with them, and some hope with Republicans--if we can elect conservative Republicans.

Who’s telling the truth, Jon Kyl or Barack Obama?

Following up on Jon Kyl’s remarks, which I broke here at RedState this weekend, (that President Obama told him in a private, one-on-one meeting, in the Oval Office, that he would not secure the border because if he were to do so then “you all” would have no reason to support “comprehensive immigration reform”) and what Sen. John McCain said on the floor of the Senate today (that a few weeks ago President Obama told all 41 Republican Senators the same thing he told Sen. Kyl in the Oval Office) (hat tip to Cubachi’s blog), we learn today from Naked Emperor News (hat tip to Redstate’s Caleb Howe) that an audio tape exists from September, 2004 on which can be heard Barack Obama explaining that his strategy for solving the illegal alien immigration problem requires that “the trade off is going to have to be improved border security.”

Video below the fold. (Hat tip to Naked Emperor News!)
