Title: Woohoo! Part 3.
Post by: Mike220 on June 18, 2010, 01:13:57 PM
This installment is entitled "Mike Got a Job."  :hi5:

I start next Wednesday at the animal shelter up in Gainesville, about 30 minutes north of Denton. Working Thursday - Sunday, about 20 hours a week, but I should make enough to cover rent, and I can use my GI Bill to cover everything else. And the schedule is perfect for school, since I'm in class and clinicals Monday - Wednesday. I'm stoked. Been looking for a job for almost 4 months now and this was my first interview. Not too bad, if I may say so.

That's awesome!

What exactly will you be doing at the animal shelter?

Cleaning kennels, giving medicine and shots, walking dogs, things like that.

And apparently when three good things happen, something bad happens too. Went to the doctor yesterday to get a physical for school and he sent me to the ER with high blood pressure (149/104) and heart rate (140). I didn't feel it, but the ER doc used the term "white coat anxiety." Surprised me cause I didn't feel nervous, and it concerned the guy giving me a physical. He was asking if I took drugs or just worked out or drank a lot of caffeine. So now I have a prescription for anti-anxiety meds and I go back Monday to finish my physical, hopefully. If everything is still that high though, I'll probably have to find a new career.  :bawl:

Ask them to wait on taking your BP until they've finished the rest of the exam.

Mine goes up just going to the doctor's. If it's high, the nurse takes it again after she's done some other stuff. It's always lower.

I've never heard it referred to as "white coat anxiety", but I get extremely tense going for anything to a doctor's office. It's isn't that I'm afraid the dr will find something wrong, I just don't like going to the doctor, or even doctors' offices.
