A biology professor charged with killing three of her colleagues at an Alabama university has been indicted in the 1986 shooting death of her brother in Massachusetts, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Authorities had originally ruled that the shooting of Amy Bishop's brother was an accident, but they reopened the case after Bishop was charged in February with gunning down six of her colleagues at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, killing three.

Bishop, 45, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 18-year-old brother, Seth, Norfolk District Attorney William Keating said.

Keating said he did not understand why charges were never brought against Bishop.

"I can't give you any explanations, I can't give you excuses, because there are none," he said. "Jobs weren't done, responsibilities weren't met and justice wasn't served."

Bishop had told police who investigated her brother's death that she accidentally shot him while trying to unload her father's 12-gauge shotgun in the family's Braintree home. Her mother, Judith, the only witness to the shooting, confirmed her daughter's account to police.

It took a long time for this to happen.

BFD.

Actually, it kinda is.  Think about it--well connected parents have psycho daughter who blows away brother, family friend DA (now a Congressman who decided not to run for re-election--curious, no?) declines to prosecute, and she goes on her merry way, only to assault other people and culminates with the murder of three of her colleagues years later.

Ever think that if her ass had been taken out of circulation 20-some years ago, those three people in Alabama might still be alive?

Agree on the lack of action 20 yrs ago, but to do it now is asinine. I would bet that MA. wants her first and give her life to keep AL from putting her to death. If MA got a hold of the body before the trial in AL., she would never leave the state again.

Alabama isn't going to give her up, and yeah, it's kind of asinine for MA to go, "Me too!" at this point--smacks of someone in MA trying to cover their asses.

Alabama gets first crack at her, period.  She's either going to be giggling her nutbag ass off every morning, or they'll be strapping her to a gurney.

Agreed on Alabama getting first dibs. Possession is 9/10ths of the law.

Putting this wacko to death might be a stretch, though. There seems to be a lot of evidence that she's as nutty as a fruitcake.

Nutty she may be, but that may not rise to the level of mental incompetence.  Did she know right from wrong?  Did she walk in with intent?

Yeah, I see ya workin there.  See ya on death row, beyotch.

Liberalism *IS* a mental disorder and liberals are clinically AND criminally insane.

It's not that hard to understand.

Bishop attempted suicide after being charged in brother's death (http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2010/06/amy_bishop.html)

Days after Amy Bishop was indicted on a murder charge for the 1986 shotgun slaying of her 18-year-old brother in their Braintree home, she tried to kill herself in an Alabama jail where she has been held since allegedly going on a shooting rampage in February at the University of Alabama Huntsville.

A source confirmed a report by WHNT television station in Alabama that Bishop, 45, attempted suicide at Huntsville/Madison County Metro Jail on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. She was treated at a local hospital, then returned to the jail.

Bishop's attorney in Alabama could not immediately be reached.

How troublesome.  Someone should have stopped her.  Yeah.  That's it. ::)
