Title: Are you getting roasted where you live?
Post by: soleil on June 14, 2010, 06:18:04 PM
Jeez, it is HOT here in the south. The real feel was 110 today. The humidity is almost unbearable and it is only June. What will August be like?  :o

What's it like where you are?

Yeah, it's pretty warm here, about 90°.  We got another afternoon downpour that knocked my cable out for a few minutes.

A downpour would be nice right now if it didn't make it more humid.

Are you on satellite? Does your cable go out in bad weather? That must stink.

I'm on cable, but I think my area has too many people on it.  It goes out easily.

It's cooled off a little bit.  The Weather Channel says 86°

Mid 90s in North Texas today.

I'm sitting here trying to figure out when I'll be in a position to move back to Seattle.

Beastly hot for this early.

Went to the grocery about 12:30 and came out and the thermostat in the car read 98. Runnin' Buddy said she came out of a meeting this afternoon about 3 and her's read 114!! She said she didn't even know it went that high!

We had a wicked storm about 5:30-6. Lots of wind, thunder and rain for only about 15-20 minutes. But at least we got rain.

We're in the same forecast for the next several days.  This is late July-August temps. News said the utility company is having trouble.....

Exactly. My uncle's car said it was 120 Saturday!!!!! It wasn't, but the real feel was damn near close. Unreal. It is the kinda heat that takes your breath away as soon as you step into it, and an immediate sweat comes on. I hope it tames itself a little. If it is like this in June, August really will be like Hell.

Las Vegas has that dry heat. HOT, but a total diffrent kinda hot. Not sure what it is about humidity that makes it so rough, but damn!!!

See, when I gripe about it being cold here? lol, I know it can't even compare to Wisconsin!! I can't say I really know cold. I know 20's and some upper teens, but that negative mess? No way. Although that sounds nice about now!! ;)

Yeah, 50 is cold for me!! I do enjoy winter, and I wish we had more snow. We are lucky if we get a dusting once a year. This past year we got 6 inches, and that was major! However, I don't want that blizzard mess and negative temps. Although it seems a nice trade-off right now, that is just me being all hot talking.

It's been cool in Chicago for the last few days. Lots of rain over the past couple of weeks.  Although I love Texas and will always be a Texan at heart, I do not miss summer weather.  I'll be there over 4th of July and am dreading the heat. Thank God for pools :).

Anyone who has ever been to San Diego knows about "June gloom."  Been like that here for the last week.  Even had to turn on the heater briefly last week.  Finally forecast to break 70 today--first time in over a week.

But by the weekend--upper 80's.  Suh-weet.

Friggin Hot.  Last week my AC was not functioning, and at 10pm, it was 96 degrees.  Inside.  Fortunately, it is working, but it is still friggin hot.  And, we need rain.  BAD.  I was really looking forward to a cooler, wetter summer this year.  I mean, didn't we have an El Nino winter????  WTF?   :bawl:

Last summer, it was cool and rainy.

This summer, hotter than hell and stormy every afternoon. Yesterday's was excitin'... :badmood:

It's like stepping out into a sauna. It's just wrong to be all cleaned up, dressed in appropriate "meeting clothes"...just to get outside and sweat....I mean "glow".....Southern women glow....we don't do anything so crass as to sweat.  :whatever:

Had this been a DU thread you know damn well that George Bush, BP, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and the entire capitalist system would have been blamed for creating the conditions for this unseasonably hot weather.

There's no need for all that drama here. We're all adults and know it's all because it's Summer. Sorta like in a few weeks when the MSM is going to start wailing and flagellating over the ice pack melting and, OMG open water showing in the arctic we'll know it's from the same summer-thing phenomenon. The same one that's happened for billions of years and will continue for billions more after we're all long gone.

I made the mistake of going outside with pants on today.  Big mistake.  Took me long enough to carry my toolbox to my car and get out the jack... I was back inside looking for a pair of shorts and a drink of water.  I've already been through two shirts today.

Oh, and I hate you Mister Yamaguchi, or whoever the hell invented pressed-on rotors.  I put my wheel hub in the oven hoping to heat it up enough to get that damn rotor loose.

Not roasting here (WY).  My furnace is set at 60 and still coming on in the mornings.  Most days are in the 50s and nights in the 30s.  Unusual even for us.

Lots of rain, and after drought we are happy about it.

Low 90's here again today. Spent the day at the beach with the kids and some family members from out of town who came down for the weekend. It was just ghastly hot, even for being at the beach. And while the ocean felt like warm p*ss water, I did manage to tolerate the heat long enough to give my tan lines a good workout.  :uhsure:

Much the same for tomorrow, if not a touch worse. Mid-90's in the forecast, and I'll be out working in it all day long.  :(

Ultimately, He is responsible. But from a more terrestrial standpoint, thank Willis Carrier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willis_Haviland_Carrier). In my opinion, AC is one of the most important inventions of the 20th Century. Phoenix, Houston, and Las Vegas would be nothing but cowtowns without the invention, and of course computing in general couldn't have been developed to the point that it has, as early micro-electronic development required cold environments.

Oh well, it was worth it!  Worked in the garden on Sunday and it was approx. 90 and humid but at least everything is weeded and fed.  And, we have started getting tomatoes (and beans and peas).  Today it's 90 again . . .

We're wondering the same here.

At least they have finally changed the start of the school year. The last several years, the teachers have gone back around the 3rd of August, with the kids starting around the 10th. This year, the teachers are going back on the 10th and the kids start on the 17th. The kids are still gong to be out May 25th. Don't know how they have figured out the change.

Never too hot for the boat!! We are going FRiday. As long as the boat is going, the breeze is enough to keep it tolerable. However, it will feel like 110 here, so we will be going fast on the boat, or I'll be tubing! Can't wait!!

We are planning a trip from the Peninsula here over to Tangier Island to do some flounder fishing. A light wind, maybe 3-4 knots, to keep us trolling would be perfect for fishing, but not so perfect for keeping us cool. I'll suffer and bear the heat in order to reel in that 25 incher that has been teasing my line every damn time I've been out.

What's it like where you are?
No...not here in Oregon.
As a matter of FACT, this is the very first time in history that moonbat-commie-anarchist central, Eugene, Oregon has NOT been over 80 degrees before the first day of summer, June, 21.

Besides, the south has ALWAYS been hot!

Holy cow it's hot. :fuelfire: :fuelfire: I'm not used to it any more.

Back in the Georgia mountains we'd hit 90-95 maybe in late July, early August. Even then, that would be the peak temperature and we'd only get a couple of days like that. We were usually in the mid 80s. At night we'd get down to the low 60s. We're hitting 90s by 11 AM here in southern OK, and it's staying in the 90s until the sun goes down. It was still 80 degrees at midnight.

We were spoiled last summer, we only had a couple of days that it hit 90.....for the last couple of weeks, we are hitting 90 everyday.

For the most part, the weather has been fairly average, but I'm getting frustrated with the constant up and downs.  We'll have a couple days in the 90's, then a couple days in the low 70's.  Average for this time of year is mid-80's, which I tend to think is pretty perfect.

It's only 79 this morning, but there is constant rolling thunder and a steady hard rain coming down.

You mean the one that you're going to filet and put in the freezer for the next time I come down?

Wonderful weather. Mid 90's and lows at night right at 55-60. Supposed to be cooler tomorrow, but with a slight warm up toward the weekend. As an added plus it is, as usual, DRY, humidity almost never breaks 20-25%. The weather people here think we might break a record..................................no 100's all year.

Was supposed to have a 1-day cooldown tomorrow.

Just checked Intellicast.  So much for that idea.  85 and thunderstorms.  Be fun trying to sleep tomorrow morning.  Thank goodness for dehumidifiers.

No...not here in Oregon.
As a matter of FACT, this is the very first time in history that moonbat-commie-anarchist central, Eugene, Oregon has NOT been over 80 degrees before the first day of summer, June, 21.

Besides, the south has ALWAYS been hot!

Read your history...or have someone read it to you...

Seeing as how I have lived in the deep south all of my life, I am fully aware of how hot it gets. However, it isn't usually this hot in June.

That's what we're getting over here in E TN. Sunday it was 96, broke a record.

We were spoiled last summer, we only had a couple of days that it hit 90.....for the last couple of weeks, we are hitting 90 everyday.

Ah well, this too, shall pass......in the meantime, I'll just sit here and "glow" like a proper South'n Lady.... :-)
Well I'm glowing like a friggin lightenin' bug!!!  :lmao:

Yes, I am hoping we are getting the worst out of the way. I delivered my baby girl in the middle of September almost 2 years ago. So being big pregnant this time of year was no fun at all, but this is WAY worse than that. The heat is unbelievable for this time of year. Maybe it is because we had such a tough winter (for the south that is). I enjoyed the winter. Where I live, we are lucky to see a dusting of snow. We had some pretty good snow at least 3 different times. That is unheard of around these parts. So, I guess you take the good with the bad, even though some thought the snow was bad. Not me! I am a kid at heart. I loved the snow days, and I played in it big time! I usually love the summer days. Not this year.

We had a tough winter for us too....it seemed like we went from winter to summer with just about 10 days of spring.

I lived in Durham NC when I was pregnant with my youngest and his birthday is mid-September, too. I would put my daughter down for her nap, then trundle out to her little kiddie pool on the deck and lay in it....like a damn beached whale!!! I would go to the grocery store at 10-11 o'clock at night, because I was so miserable in the heat and the humidity.  :bawl:

My first was born in April....it was great, my body was pretty much back to normal by 6 week checkup, just in time for summer.

I was really happy the second was a boy....otherwise I might have been lookin' for a surrogate. I hated being pregnant.

Our son's 8th grade graduation is tonight -- luckily it's in the gym w/ AC since it's supposed to get to 95 degrees today . . .

What is this "humidity" people speak of? What is a dehumidifier"?

Yeah, you laugh.  I thought the same thing when I first moved here--hey, it's New Hampshire, not Georgia!  Then the humidity in my basement hit and STAYED around 85 percent and stuff started mildewing.

Trip to Wally World and $200 later, problem solved.

It's been 90+ every day since Sunday, with humidity in the "Suffocation" range on my meter.

It's the kind of misery when any move outdoors, no matter how slight, prompts massive sweating. Even the dog that revels in heat minimizes her time outdoors.

It's frickin' brutal.

What the hell did we do before A/C besides suffer?   :p

Same over here in Kansas City Euph.......96 today, with 88% humidity......been going on for two weeks now, occasionally interrupted by thundershowers, which just make the humidity worse.

Cold front is due to pass through this afternoon, giving us one day of highs in the mid 80's, then back to 90's.......

Bah.....
