BARACK OBAMA
Obama Helpfully Clarifies That His Grandmother Is a "Typical White Person"
In Philadelphia this morning, Barack Obama confronted the remains of the Jeremiah Wright brushfire, the smoldering embers of this anecdote of his grandmother using racial stereotypes that made him cringe... and promptly spilled gasoline on those embers.
610 WIP host Angelo Cataldi asked Obama about his Tuesday morning speech on race at the National Constitution Center in which he referenced his own white grandmother and her prejudice. Obama told Cataldi that "The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know (pause) there's a reaction in her that doesn't go away and it comes out in the wrong way."

Keep digging the grave...you know, this is the issue with either a very liberal female or minority in office...this attitude. It's a problem on either extreme...very deeply held stereotypes. Perhaps instead of labeling his mother as a 'typical white person' he should have made a more proper note that his grandmother was a product of the times in which she was raised and lived. It tells me he's either not good at thinking on his feet or very introspective.

He never should have tossed Granny under the bus in "The Speech," like you said - he keeps digging himself a hole.
-
So, what granny said made him cringe, but he gives a pass to the bigoted preacher. Am I reading that right?

it was ridiculous to drag his granny into the conversation in the first place, other than to send a subliminal reminder to all us "crackers" that he, in fact, has a white granny.
and the fact that he would hold her up, whatever she thinks or said, as somehow justifying the hateful bigoted remarks spewing out of his "former pastor" is sheer moral relativism; you have GOT to be able to call wrong things wrong. otherwise, in the final analysis, nothing is wrong.

Yes, you are reading it right. But the MSM thought his speech was the best speech "evah".

Granny=white/ bad, pastor=black/ good
Truth meet Obama.
-
I find it annoying that for the last few days Obama has been trying to slyly work this issue into a "white racism" thing rather then the fact that his pastor is a hate filled man spewing nonsense.
That doesn`t go over well with the public so now it is trying to be turned around.
If he really wants everyone to "get past" race issues then stop bringing up the past whether it be slavery or his granny.

It says a lot about who he is that he relates more to the more radical black constituency then to the grandmother that spent time in her life when she should have been done raising children, raising him. Not unusual from mixed heritage individuals. It is as if they are forever trying to identify, usually with, the half of them that left their lives. Maybe that's analyzing him too much, but his issues are not a thing to build a policy on for running the country.

My best friend from grade school has bi-racial children. She herself is bi-racial (half white and half hispanic). The first two are with a dead beat man who SHE had to pay to get to come to his own daughters wedding last year (he didn't even give her a gift). Her son up and decided he wanted to live with his dad, who consequently NEVER paid a dime of child support and basically was non existent in his life, when he turned 17. His father lives in Houston and she still lives in Omaha (where I'm originally from). She let him go because she thought he needed to get to know his father. His Dad doesn't even let him live with him, he is apparently living with a cousin and has in essence turned into his loser father.
Her new husband (who also happens to be black) has a son who is 16. This new husband was in the Marines and is a great guy. His son is a good kid and does well in school, her new husband has had custody of his son since his divorce from his mother many years ago. My friend said that her oldest daughter (she has another daughter from a short marriage that was between loser sperm doner and her current husband) said to her once that she considers herself white. She asked her why and she said because she didn't like her Dad (and in general his whole family). She told her that her Dad being black has nothing to do with him being a bad father and that there were bad fathers that were white or any race for that matter. She still identifies as white (she looks kind of like Mariah Carry), married a white man and only has a few black friends even though her mother was always positive about her black history.
My friend is the best person and mother and she raised her children the same which makes me think that for a boy growing up without a father must make him look to a male authority figure (as Obama does his pastor) more as a father figure. That is the only reason I can think of why Obama can't distance himself from his pastor. I think it may be both a race and father figure type issue rather than just a race issue alone with Obama.

The irony meter is running off the scale!! :whatever:
Characterizing his grandmother's alleged use of racial stereotypes by using the stereotype of a "Typical White Person" :devious:
That sure ought to bring us all a little closer together, doncha think? :kumbaya:
Or maybe just cringe a little....

BLT = Black Liberation Theory NOT Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato in THIS context.
Not to mentions he's decribing her "typical" attitude as he saw it FORTY years ago. He's just trying to get others to focus on white, not black racism because then he'd have to make more excuses for his racist BLT pastor.

Sorry Barackstar! that dog won't hunt. Go sell crazy someplace else.
-
Uhhh, the 'typical white people' I know, more often than not, do not have bi-racial grandchildren they are raising because their daughter was not responsible enough in his early years to be his Mom.
I call :bs: on the BarackStar!.

his grandmother was a token that he sacrificed to his political aspirations. it's ironic, because
joining that church was ALSO a sacrifice to his political aspirations; a kid from hawaii just doens't
get elected from that district unless he has the right kind of friends.

Wait for it...wait for it...
One of the more controversial statements from Barack Obama's speech on Tuesday was his reference to his white grandmother's "fear of black men who passed by her on the street."
Curiously, his most recent account of her anxieties doesn't mesh with what he wrote about this subject in his 1996 book "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance."
As neatly identified by Steve Sailer (h/t NB reader Rob Reardon via Power Line):
Obama's white grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who was raising him and earning most of the money in the family while his own mother was off in Indonesia working on her 1067 page dissertation on peasant blacksmithing, rode the bus each morning to her job as a bank executive. One day, the 16-18 year old Obama wakes up to an argument between his grandmother and grandfather. She didn't want to ride the bus because she had been hassled by a bum at the bus stop. She tells him:
"Her lips pursed with irritation. 'He was very aggressive, Barry. Very aggressive. I gave him a dollar and he kept asking. If the bus hadn't come, I think he might have hit me over the head."
So why didn't Obama's lefty grandfather not want to drive his own wife to work? Because to help his wife avoid the hostile, dangerous panhandler would be morally wrong, because the potential mugger was ... Well, I'll let Sen. Obama tell the story:
"He turned around and I saw that he was shaking. 'It is a big deal. It's a big deal to me. She's been bothered by men before. You know why she's so scared this time. I'll tell you why. Before you came in, she told me the fella was black.' He whispered the word. 'That's the real reason why she's bothered. And I just don't think that right.'"
Think media will be all over this little inconsistency?
Yes, that was a rhetorical question.

Obama is part White. Just look at him, he even looks White in many ways. Obama is a self-hater.

But Jessie Jackson must understand how she feels:

In Chicago he said, "There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery -- then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved."

oh, hey lookatthis... (http://hotair.com/archives/2008/03/21/the-last-obama-post-of-the-week-hopefully/)
52% who heard speech less likely to vote for Obama?
Most startling is that blacks by 56% to 31% said the speech made them less likely to vote for him. That may be because Obama had some gutsy perspectives on blacks as well as on whites, and black observers of the speech may have been annoyed. But it’s hard to imagine that there’s going to be an appreciable retreat by blacks from the Obama column.
Democrats disapproved 48% to 28%, which looks sobering for Obama on first glance, but might portend otherwise. If blacks irritated by Obama’s remarks will return to the fold, than impressing whites is probably a more vital read on the numbers. And Democratic whites were more sympathetic with the speech’s message than black ones.
The disturbing numbers for Obama are the independent voters. By 56% to 13%, they said they’re less likely to vote for him because of the speech.

The "typical white person" statement is one that's really going to bite. There isn't a single white person who can't relate to the fact that if we were to say "Typical black person," the left would jump all over that. Shows their complete hypocracy.

especially since he has already labeled her as something of a closet racist; thus all typical white people are covert bigots.
