Quote
A GREENPEACE activist trying to free tuna from a commercial fishing net in the Mediterranean was harpooned through the leg by fishermen on a French boat, the environmental group said.

"In a non-violent action, Greenpeace activists in zodiac boats attempted to lower the side of a purse seine net with sand bags to free the fish," said Isabelle Philippe of Greenpeace France.

"At that moment, fishermen violently attacked the activists, harpooning one of them through the leg," she said.

The injured man, a British national identified by the group as Frank Huston, was transferred to a hospital in Malta where he was to undergo surgery on Friday evening (local time).

"His life is not threatened, but he is in serious condition," Ms Philippe said.

The fishing ship, the Jean-Marie Christian VI, was one of several French tuna vessels in the area when the attack occurred in international waters near Malta, she add

i love "whale wars."

it is the definitive documentary of libtards on a mission...  heh.  and then f*uking  up that mission beyond all hope.

i only watch this season because the 'tards in this season unleash their "ultimate weapon!"...  their super, ultra, frantistical wonder boat that is the fiberglas piece of shit, never meant for a real ocean "avenger!",  the one that gets cut in two and sinks quickly to the bottom.  their "batmobile!"  their wonder of science.  that gets quickly dispatched  to davy jones locker.  millions and millions of dummy dollars lost in the sea forever...  tragic!

is this possible?  a libtard effort costing millions in their effort to get things right?  and failing so miserably?

is this possible?

ahhhggg...

I have often recommended Whale Wars to junior officers as good viewing for learning about leadership - i.e. what NOT to do!  That show is a laff riot of idiots in command of clowns.

If you knew what was going on with Blue Fn Tuna (BFT) you mght not make these staements.

That fish has pretty much been snuffed out by man.  What s even worse is the oil spill in the GOM.  It is one of ther only breeding grounds and guess what they just did??

Don't get me wrong I hate Greenpeace, I however feel that BFT are overfished.  If the rest of the world would follow the treaties they sign like we do, then their wouldn't be a problem, just look at the compliance of ICCAT from other countries.

IMO, the Whale Wars crew are simply eco-Nazi Terrorists. The reason they DON'T get shot is because of the Maritime Laws. It's illegal to have guns aboard civilian ships. This is why Piracy is so rampant off of the coast of Somalia.

As far as Blue Fin Tuna, I don't see why we can't attempt to "farm" them, at least to the extent that some of the Govt agencies do for freshwater lakes. (Breed, hatch and raise into fingerlings and then release them into the wild). The thing is that we EAT fish. It is a food source and we should protect and even manage that food source to the best of our abilities. They restrict the hunting of deer in many states depending on the population. Of course, few people are farm raising deer.

One of the few times I agree where man is essentially really screwin' up the planet! Many of our fisheries are way over-fished!

I'm like you, we manage deer populations around here to the point there are far more deer than there were 150 years ago, yet there are 100 times the number of hunters! Hell, even the wolves and grizz are becoming numerous enough around here they are being hunted again!

Why in the hell we can't do that with ocean fisheries is solely do to the fact that most nations refuse to hold their fishermen accountable to international treaties!

I saw about 10 minutes of it.  Now while I'm just a silly submariner, I do remember a few things about operating a ship at sea, and damned if they ain't got clue ****ing ONE on how to do it right.

It's like they were all sitting in their mom's basement one night, stoned to the bejeezus and one of them gets the wild idea that they should all get some goofy old ****er to buy them a ship named after him so they could stop the "eeeeeeevillllll" whale hunters.

Watching how they operate, it's amazing that they make it through a month without a fatality.

Some fishes are not conducive for farming. I believe tuna is one of them. Tuna like large and open areas in the sea.
