Title: Johnny and June Cash
Post by: BEG on June 03, 2010, 11:38:04 PM
So.......like I have said before, I am "into" Little House on the Prairie. I record it every day but haven't been watching it lately. I decided to watch it tonight and I was pleasantly surprised to see Johnny and June Cash were guest stars on the episode (The Collection).  I'm still watching it, he was just singing.

Sigh...there will never be another Johnny Cash. :(

I watched an episode yesterday of Little House With A Canary.  It was titled "I'll Ride The Wind".  It was about the Edwards' adopted son John giving up his college scholarship in order to stay on the farm and marry Mary Ingalls. (filmed in 1977)

I mention this because I almost never ever watch that show......and here you are posting a thread......

I remember that episode.

Used to love that show but haven't had TV for 6+ years now.  When I got snowed in last month, and stuck in a motel an extra day, there was an all day "Little House" thing going on.  I felt like Crocodile Dundee when he turned on a TV in New York.  "Yep.  That's what I watched."  Seems it was still the best thing on.

I love me some Johnny Cash. I am not a country fan, at least not today's country. Old school country like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, etc., I love it. I even like me some GArth Brooks (ok I love me some Garth Brooks) and some George Strait. I can't stomach any of today's mess though.

Same here. I only like the oldies, with the exception of Dwight Yoakum. Love him.  I saw Johnny and June in Nashville back in the 70s. I was just a little girl, and at the time I didn't really care.  If I were this age, I would enjoy it so much. We lived in Memphis at the time, and Elvis was still alive. I only started liking old country when I was in college.  Willie lived halfway between Waco, TX and where my parents lived.  Sadly, I never saw him until I went to Austin City Limits a few years ago. Garth played the clubs there in Waco before he hit the big time. I never saw him. I did see George Strait when he had a concert on campus.

Oh, and I love reruns of both Little House on the  Prairie and the Waltons. I haven't seen either one in years.

I've seen Garth and Willie. Both were awesome. Would've loved to have seen Cash. I agree on Yoakum, but he is kinda old school. Not like Cash and Nelson, but he isn't a new artist. I also loved him in Sling Blade.

Way way back when I was seven my parents took me to a show at the Sportatorium in Dallas.  Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, Faron Young, Johnny Cash, plus some I have forgotten, were on the bill.  The only things I remember about the show is how I thought Patsy Cline was beautiful and Willie Nelson singing "Hello Walls".

I love Johnny and June. They had an amazing love affair.    Though it did start out rather anti-conservative.

True about Dwight.  Guess he's been around awhile, but not like the oldies :).

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan in high school.  I actually went to see Huey Lewis and the News.  :uhsure:  He played before Huey Lewis.  It was an outdoor concert and I skipped out of work and ran into one of my managers at the concert.   :p   I didn't know the greatness that I was witnessed until many years later.

I love this song.  This video is from 1985, the same year I saw him.

I would love to have seen Stevie Ray Vaughan! I bet that was a great concert.  I loved Huey Lewis back in the day.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but here goes.... I saw George Michael at Texas Stadium back in 1986 or 87.  A bunch of girls from college took a road trip, and I think we all camped out at my parents' house. Someone would have to pay me to see him now :).

So did I.  We had Study Hall together.

Saw Willie in Tulsa way back when. He and his band played the normal 2 hour set after of course everyone started yelling for him to give us one more.

After a bit he walked out onto the stage carrying his his old guitar and a bottle of Jack Daniels. He sat down and played solo for almost another 2 hours, until the 'Daniels was gone! It was frikkin' awesome!

Stevie Ray is beyond awesome. Or was. I love love love his music and his style. I would've loved to have seen him perform. Too many of the greats die too young.

I was always jealous of his abilities.  He would play (occasionally) around school functions and such.  He would always mesmerize.

Our families weren't close.  My dad and his dad were close, though.  I look back now and wish things had been different.
