WASHINGTON — Federal officials are hoping Cameron can help them come up with ideas on how to stop the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, officials said today.
The “Avatar” and “Titanic” director was among a group of scientists and other experts who met Tuesday with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for a brainstorming session on stopping the massive oil leak.
The Canadian-born Cameron is considered an expert on underwater filming and remote vehicle technologies. “Avatar” and “Titanic” are the two highest-grossing films of all time.
BP, meanwhile, hopes to place a cap on a fractured oil pipe and contain the Gulf of Mexico spill within the next 24 hours, a top company official said.
The operation -- dubbed a lower marine riser pipe -- to cut off the leaking pipe and seal it was launched Tuesday, earlier than the timetable set at the weekend by BP after an earlier bid to stop the leak failed.

This appears to be a "legitimate" connection Cameron has to the entire thing, so it's not like actors called before congress testifying about issues in which they played roles in films or tv shows. Or district attorneys (yes, you, Waterston).
But to be blunt, Cameron is still an amateur compared to REAL search and rescue teams, such as Navy submarine retrieval units or the late Red Adair's organization, neither of which are part of the mix.
As I said before, though, the entire process is being orchestrated for maximum favorite results for the Democrats. Nothing else matters to the administration.

Any of the major ship wreck hunting companies has as much or more experience than Cameron, but they wouldn't make this a news story like Cameron does. Lord Zero has to show he is doing something.

It's for a new TV show, "Smile, you're on candid F#ckup".
