I think I'm really having one. On a whim I went and bought the car that's been haunting me since 2007 when I saw it at the Chicago Auto Show.
Not much of a family car, but darn it, I've earned it. That, and I'm hoping to pass this along to my son on his 18th birthday. That gives me a few years of enjoyment before handing the keys over to junior... but when he gets it, it will be a beast. Oh yes, the performance mods are already starting to roll in from being ordered. :)

I proudly laid down my $1,700 "gas guzzler tax" with a big smile on my face. I'm going to be leaving a massive carbon footprint this year.

I was just reading the results of Popular Mechanics Salt Flat head to head test of the Mustang GT500 and a Camaro. When the chip was been 'clocked'* the Mustang did 184.7 MPH. License? Get caught at that speed and it would be gone for ever. :uhsure:
The article is in the June Magazine but I didn't find the article on line yet.

Not to be a big buzz-kill but one of the worst accident scenes I ever saw was a '63 Wildcat. It happened on a hair pin turn which came up after a long straight away. The front seat passengers were decapitated, amazingly one rear seat passenger was pulled from the wreckage alive ( passed out on the back floor apparently), the others were spread around the scene in bits and pieces as was the car. It was a flat bed and shovel recovery. Gruesome is not the word lets just leave it at that. I have no idea how fast they were going when they left the road but would guess the speedo was pegged. Alcohol and speed were definitely the cause.
Then there was the 440 Duster with a bunch of AF guys. No one lived in that one, again, it was just bits and pieces. Alcohol, speed, a hairpin turn at the crest of a hill, all meant when they took out a pine tree in mid air then rained car and people parts on the valley below. Made the Wildcat scene tame, long time veterans of accident recovery lost it at that scene. I have no idea how fast they were going but I was traveling in the opposite direction when they flew by seconds before impact. I am guessing in excess of a buck forty, up hill!!

Back in my youthful days when I was invincible, I still knew not to speed when drinking. I only did things like trying to find the top end of a car while sober, and on straight roads. The best time is between 2 and 3 in the morning out in the country.

With the explosion of the whitetail deer population across the USA, that might not be such a good idea anymore.

I had it for 13 years -- put 200k on it and finally the electrical system broke down :bawl: What a fun car though -- 5 liter, V8. I've been driving my little Focus for 4 years now; it's not a bad car -- it's just not the same!

I married one of those... hence my crisis. She's still in her 20's... and I'm still pulling my hair out. :)

The 2011 Mustangs have the raw power, no doubt. But they lack on the looks (getting tired) and the quality of the build just isn't there. I've had a few Mustangs and I'm always unhappy with the saggy suspension, doors that don't line-up, horribly thin paint, plasticy interiors, etc.
But they have the engines sorted. :)
Nope, I went for styling with the Challenger. To me, it's by far the best looking and most fresh looking of the new breed of muscle cars. The Camero doesn't quite do it for me... I drove one, wasn't impressed with the interior. The performance was nice though and I do love the Vette motors.
I've been on the phone with my local speed shop and I'm 70% certain that I'm going with a Kenne Bell blower now. That will put it up around 600rwhp with the 9lbs pulley, cam and exhaust. That far exceeds the Mustang and Camero in the power department and I'll have the badass styling of the Challenger. It all fits nicely under the hood so there will be no sign to the unsuspecting about what just kicked their ass at the stop light. :) When they ask what I've done to it, I'll smile and say "it's bone stock".

I agree, and I considered another one. I've had a 91, 93, 96 and 2000 Vettes. I was seriously considering a Z06, but ended up with a vintage 70's style muscle car instead and I'm loving it.

I agree it looks great and should be fun to drive and show. I had nothing but Mopar for years but after my experiences with a couple of PT Cruisers I bid them fairwell. I keep saying I am going to sell the 68 'Cuda but haven't yet. :-) It's a stock 225.
