Passengers tried to wrest weapons from soldiers, Army Radio reports; Turkish leadership call emergency meeting to discuss response to attack at sea, call in Israeli ambassador.
Passengers tried to grab weapons away from soldiers boarding the Gaza protest flotilla, starting the violence, Army Radio reported Tuesday morning, responding to accusations that Israeli commandos assaulted the ships guns blazing.
Activists aboard the ships repeatedly said they would not respond with violence to the navy's interception of their flotilla.

.Israel: At Least 10 Killed on Gaza Flotilla
JERUSALEM (AP) -- Israeli commandos on Monday stormed six ships carrying hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists on an aid mission to the blockaded Gaza Strip, killing at least 10 people and wounding dozens after encountering unexpected resistance as the forces boarded the vessels.
The operation in international waters off the Gaza coast was a nightmare scenario for Israel that looked certain to further damage its international standing, strain already tense relations with Turkey -- the unofficial sponsor of the mission -- and draw unwanted attention to Gaza's plight.
Then it goes on about Euroweenies crying over evil Israel...
BUT the truth surfaces here:
An Al-Jazeera reporter on one of the Turkish ships said the Israelis fired at the vessel before boarding it. The Israelis, who had declared they would not let the ships reach Gaza, said they only opened fire after being attacked by activists with sticks, knives and live fire from weapons seized from the Israeli commandos.
"On board the ship we found weapons prepared in advance and used against our forces," declared Israel's deputy foreign minister, Danny Ayalon.
"The organizers' intent was violent, their method was violent and the results were unfortunately violent. Israel regrets any loss of life and did everything to avoid this outcome."
-
Now I gotta go and find Euro-rags and leave supporting comments for Israel.
What is it about Euopean culture that robs manhood from its men?
Hmmm. Do I wanna burn my mole at DU to say I have no sympathy for the activists?

What is it about European culture that robs manhood from its men?
Being protected for years by the US . . .

I've read that 2 IDF soldiers were seriously injured.
They told them not to do it, and they disobeyed. If they don't want to be blockaded then they have to stop building missiles and smuggling weapons.
I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop on this one. They may have been stupid enough to be smuggling high explosives and the like on those ships.
-
I'm waiting for Lord Zero to come out and condemn Israel for this unnecessary violence. :whatever:

Netanyahu is cancelling a visit to the White House that was scheduled for tomorrow. It's a good thing, he didn't need to hear Lord Zero berating him.

Its up to 15 now.
Maybe some one needs to give the muzzies that Chris Rock video on how not to get your a$$ beat by the police.
Again no sympathy from me. Just a few less uppity muslims and liberals. Darwin award time.

FNC was saying that these Israeli commandos were using crowd dispersal weapons--paintball guns, in effect, and they had handguns on them. The "activists" took two of the handguns, and the Israeli commandos found both of them--unloaded (they were probably fired at the Israelis).

Condemnation Follows Israeli Raid On Gaza Flotilla ..
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127286256&ft=1&f=1001
Israeli naval commandos stormed a flotilla of ships carrying aid and hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists to the blockaded Gaza Strip on Monday, killing at least 10 passengers in a predawn raid that set off worldwide condemnation and a diplomatic crisis.
Officials in Israel said the elite naval units were attacked as they attempted to board one of the ships, and that the commandos used live fire only when they felt their lives were threatened. Dozens of passengers and at least five Israeli soldiers were wounded in the confrontation in international waters.
The incident triggered outrage in the Arab world and across Europe, as many of the passengers were from European countries. The raid also strained already tense relations with Israel's longtime Muslim ally Turkey, the unofficial sponsor of the mission, and drew more attention to the plight of Gaza's 1.5 million people.

CAIR: President Obama Must Condemn Gaza Flotilla 'Massacre'
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/cair-president-obama-must-condemn-gaza-flotilla-massacre-95251729.html
WASHINGTON, May 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today urged President Obama to condemn what the Muslim civil rights group called an Israeli "massacre" of civilians on a flotilla of ships in international waters seeking to bring humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip. Israeli commandos killed at least 10 civilians in a pre-dawn raid on the flotilla.

Activists from President's circle of friends top supporters of anti-Israel protest ships
The group behind the Gaza flotilla that engaged in deadly clashes with Israeli commandos today counts among its top supporters the friends and associates of President Barack Obama, namely the founders of the Weather Underground terrorist organization, William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, as well as Jodie Evans, the leader of the radical activist organization Code Pink.
Earlier today, Israeli navy commandos raided the six-ship flotilla, encountering heavy resistance and live fire from the activists. Several activists were killed and dozens of others were reportedly injured, as were several of the Israeli commandos.

The terrorist sympathizing cocksuckers ought to be damn happy the Israelis didn't just say "**** it" and sink the ships

I think certain of the activists should be held for long prison terms. notably the euro-weenie legislators and leftist activists. The ships should be scuttled at sea.
this is an orchestrated event that can only lead to war...its a deliberate ploy and the media cannot be trusted to tell the truth. The muslims love to be the victims and they are playing the victim card to the hilt.

Of course this is a ploy, propaganda by the Islamists. If you add all the sources of funds from outside Gaza that aid the Arabs there it works out to about $18,000 per person, annually yet the average annual income is $3,000. It is planned, and the Israeli's need to start parading out the weapons captured and cash recovered, interview the soldiers in ther hospital, release the correspondence, etc etc.. Mr. Obama is curretly paralized by continuous failure internationally, and can only run his mouth.

Protesters led by several organizations gathered in front of the Israeli Embassy near Van Ness this afternoon in response to the deaths of nine pro-Palestinian activists by Israeli naval commandos while seizing control of their ship. The vast majority of the protesters were comprised of members from ANSWER, Code Pink and The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation. Although the embassy appeared to remain closed, a minimal police presence stayed to watch over the picketers.
Chants included calls to close the embassy and to end aid to Israel. Many protesters carried quickly made signs ranging from, "Let Gaza Live: End the Israeli Occupation" to, "Israeli Apartheid Kills;" and despite the weather, one protester braved a full reaper costume while remaining silent.
As of 5 p.m., organizers planned to move the protest down to in front of the White House by c

I pretty much shrug my shoulders at these planned pieces of propaganda, and no doubt most Israelis do too. There's just no point in getting upset at the "world's" reaction any longer; there's no point in expecting even a scintilla of fairness from these people. It's not as if they--the Eurotrash who are at root anti-Semites and the openly anti-Semitic, murderous Arabs and Moslems--can hate Israel any more than they already do. Israel will maintain the blockade, weather the storm, and that will be that. Egypt will pay a stiff price in the end for lifting the blockade on their side of Gaza, as they've already done. Mubarak is playing with fire; he'll be allowing Islamists more of a power base in Egypt, if they can more easily operate to smuggle through Egypt. There's no way Egypt can avoid that outcome if they allow this.
-
Just saw the video on FNC. Those folks are lucky the commando's left anyone alive. Especially after the Israeli commando got thrown overboard. In reality that thing should be a ghost ship floating around on open water.

At least 10 dead (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127286256&ft=1&f=1001), now.
Not enough! They should have sent every one of these ships to the bottom of the Mediterranean and the antagonizers occupying them too! How long can you tread water, you terrorist sympathizing pieces of excrement?
This whole damn thing was a stunt to break the blockade! How can anyone disagree with Israel's reaction after seeing the video of this BS?
Turkey has some explaining to do in my opinion! No other country has allowed a flotilla to leave their port with this kind of intention. They knew this would happen! Turkey has a dream of rebuilding the Ottoman Empire. Don't think this is the way to go about it. If anyone needs to be held accountable, it's Turkey and it's terrorist enabling politicians!

Got to be said Godot that for some reason Isreal reminds me of how we Americans founded what was once the Greatest Nation on earth. I say once as I am a realisist.
Our ancestors came here to a land that was totally unused by humans, as did the Isrealies that went into their new home. Both began as a refruge from religious precursion at the begining then turned into an oppurtunity to make wealth.
Both of us had to fight the wandering tribes that desired our goods and all we had worked for. Hard work and blood spilled led both of us to a good life and then foreign countrys came in to take over.
Both countrys have faced the unthinkable in brutality from our enemys and still kept going for a dream of freedom.
Only difference is the time line and the culture at the time. As much as we believe the history we are told in school and movies, it was the womans decision to load her kids in a wagon and face the unknown.
These woman knew what would happen to them and their family if caught by the Indians but were willing to shoot from the hip themselves. Their 8 year old sons and daughters were trained to reload a weapon.
The Isralies in this time trained 13 year old kids to take a machine gun apart and put it back together blindfolded.
Yah freedom had to be fought for at the price of blood and guts.
Tody we take in this country freedom for granted to the point of harm to society as a whole. What do we care if we loose a few rights as long as we can live the good life.??
Isreal however cannot sit on its ass and demand to be able to live a life of Joy. They are facing the same Indians we faced 200 years ago but the bow and arrow is now Missels and terror.
Is everyone blind to the fact that if the Jews are taken down then it is a short step to taking down the Christians.??
Every Christian church I have ever attended had a short reading from the old Testament, are we to abandon Jesus a Jew for the life and beliefs of others.?

Have they done anything for the Palestinians? No! They treat like second class citizens and they could care less for them.
"It's complicated," and while the Israelis don't have totally clean hands in the whole debacle, those of the Palestinians leadership (If you can call it that) are even dirtier. True, the Palestinian pseudo-government doesn't really do jack to fix things in its own inefficient, half-assed Arab way, but on the other hand it's not like the Israelis intentionally do anything positive for the populace there either, on top of which the IDF periodically zooms in and blows the shit out of something or other, so it's not like the average Palestinian has a tough time figuring out who to root for.
On the Israeli side, they have an ambivalent relation with the cheap-labor-for-shitty-jobs which the Palestinians offer, much like us and Mexico, but they don't want to actually own the territory (Which is why it was just 'Occupied' for 30 years, disenfrachising the inhabitants from the sovereign nations on either side of them) since if they made it part of Israel, they'd have to give a bunch of non-Jewish people voting rights, which is the last thing they want to do...especially non-Jewish people with a high birth rate.
A blockade is only as strong as the blockader's will to enforce it, and nobody is legally bound to obey it. The consequences of not doing so, of course, normally lead to shooting. It's a line in the sand, or sea really, declaring a blockade does not afford the blockader any special legal rights. Like an ultimatum, it is a trigger point for when armed force will be used to achieve a policy objective.
-
I agree entirely that next time Israel should just sink any ships that try to break the blockade, but, since in reality we know they won't, is there any reason they couldn't rig up and maneuver some "drone" ships to simply block the ships from entering these waters, or use some other method that makes it impossible for the invading ship to physically continue sailing in? Then it would be these bastards' choice of whether or not to smash themselves on another ship or not.
Or--
How deep are these waters? Could Israel create artificial "reefs" by dropping enough junk/rocks?

According to the defense officials, the IDF has identified about 50 passengers on the ship who could have terrorist connections with global jihad-affiliated groups.
During its searches of the Mavi Marmara on Tuesday, the military also discovered a cache of bulletproof vests and night-vision goggles, as well as gas masks. On Monday morning, at least nine foreign activists were killed during the navy’s takeover of the Mavi Marmara, which was trying to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Former Weather Underground leaders William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, as well as Code Pink founder Jodie Evans, helped organize the Free Gaza Movement, which launched the six-ship flotilla from Turkey to Israel that ended in a violent clash with Israeli Defense Forces, BigGovernment.com reported.
In January, the trio were spotted in Egypt attempting to stir up crowds on the streets with 1,400 other left-wing activists after the Egyptian government refused to allow Free Gaza Movement members to enter the Gaza Strip. About 100 marchers were eventually allowed to cross the border, where they were met by former Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniyeh

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday defended Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip and its decision to intercept the pro-Palestinian flotilla bringing humanitarian aid to the coastal territory, though he did not go so far as to defend the Israel Navy raid that killed nine people two days earlier.
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden
In an interview with Charlie Rose, Biden pointed out that Israel had given pro-Palestinian activists the option of unloading their cargo at the Ashdod port, and offered to bring it to the Gaza Strip on their behalf.
"They've said, 'Here you go. You're in the Mediterranean. This ship -- if you divert slightly north you can unload it and we'll get the stuff into Gaza,'", he said. "So what's the big deal here? What's the big deal of insisting it go straight to Gaza? Well, it's legitimate for Israel to say, 'I don't know what's on that ship. These guys are dropping… 3,000 rockets on my people.
"Look, you can argue whether Israel should have dropped people onto that ship or not -- but the truth of the matter is, Israel has a right to know -- they're at war with Hamas -- has a right to know whether or not arms are being smuggled in."
During the interview, Biden also blamed Hamas for the crisis that has wracked the coastal territory and for the ongoing state of conflict with Israel.

'Mavi Marmara' raid commando: "They had murder in their eyes."
(Saint's note: The good stuff is quoted here, and starts in the eleventh paragraph down.)
Based on preliminary results of its investigation into the navy’s takeover of the Mavi Marmara, which ended with nine dead passengers and more than 30 wounded, the IDF said on Thursday that the commandos were attacked by a well-trained group of mercenaries, most of whom were found without IDs but with thousands of dollars in their pockets.
The group was well trained and was split into a number of squads of about 20 mercenaries each distributed throughout the upper deck, the IDF said. All of the mercenaries wore gas masks and ceramic bulletproof vests and were armed with either bats, slingshots, metal bars, knives or stun grenades.
The IDF’s understanding is that the mercenaries mainly chose dual-purpose items of this sort rather than guns, since opening fire would have made it blatantly clear that they were terrorists and not so-called peace activists.
Nevertheless, the IDF suspects that the group did have some guns of its own. Israeli forensic experts who examined the ship found casings belonging to a weapon that was not used by the commandos, and the Turkish captain of the ship later told the IDF that the “mercenaries†threw their weapons overboard after the commandos took control of the vessel.
T. said he realized the group they were facing was well-trained and likely ex-military after the commandos threw a number of stun grenades and fired warning shots before rappelling down onto the deck. “They didn’t even flinch,†he said. “Regular people would move.â€
Pretty obvious that the flotsam . . . er, flotilla . . . had quite a few terrorists in it.
I like the Mk 48 (or Mk 37) solution.

Israel 'to reject international ship raid inquiry' (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/10250354.stm)
Israel will reject a proposed international commission to investigate its deadly raid on a Gaza aid flotilla, its ambassador to the US has said.
Michael Oren told US broadcaster Fox News that Israel has the ability and the right to investigate its own military.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had earlier telephoned Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu with the proposal.
Nine people died when Israeli commandos stormed the Turkish ship last week.
"We are rejecting an international commission. We are discussing with the Obama administration a way in which our inquiry will take place," Mr Oren told Fox News Sunday.
He said Israel would not apologise for the incident. Eight of those killed were Turkish, and the ninth had joint US-Turkish nationality.
Mr Netanyahu was due to discuss Mr Ban's proposal with senior cabinet ministers on Sunday.
But Mr Oren said: "Israel is a democratic natio

Israeli commando who shot six passengers in aid convoy in line for medal (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article7144099.ece)
Six of the nine passengers killed in an Israeli raid on an aid convoy bound for Gaza were shot by a single Israeli commando, who is being considered for a medal of valour for saving his injured comrades as passengers attacked them with clubs, knives and even guns they had taken from downed Navy Seals.
Fresh details of the controversial raid, which has led to accusations of “piracy” and “state terrorism” being levelled against Israel, and which wrecked its strategic partnership with Turkey, emerged yesterday. There were reports that passengers who attacked the Israeli boarding party had been dragging three captured commandos into the hold of the ship when the shooting broke out.
And a British passenger who witnessed the deadly pre-dawn encounter in international waters said that some of the more peaceful activists on board had tried to protect captured Israeli soldiers being set upon by a hardcore of p
