What has always amazed me about this event was: rock and heavy metal in particular was meant as an expression of rebellion, of doing away with what had come before. Yet, now it seems to have come full circle because rock, and heavy metal in particular, seems to lend itself very well to classical forms.

Of course, I have often wondered how many of the symphony musicians, after having dedicated decades of their lives to the study of music in its highest forms were sitting through that entire episode telling themselves, "It's just a paycheck, you can do this." and how many were saying, "Yesh!" This kicks so much ass."
