Hay being made about Obama skipping Memorial Day Celebration to go on Vacation...
I can't say I agree with that decision, but did past Presidents ever do that? Headed back out to make sense of this,*IF* it's true.

Hell if Bush took 5 minutes to take a dump you goons blasted him.

4. And if he'd been at the celebration, they'd complain he was grandstanding
It's typical "heads I win, tails you lose" griping masquerading as reportage. If Obama was at a Memorial Day event, somebody would grumble that he'd never been in the military, and what was he doing there. If he's not at the event, they'll grumble that he'd never been in the military, and should damn well be there.
Jesus described the phenomenon centuries ago, when he contrasted his work with John the Baptist. People refused to listen to John because he was so ascetic; people refused to listen to Jesus because he wasn't ascetic. There is indeed nothing new under the sun.
Hell every scenario under the sun was like that for Bush.

8. I personally don't find anything wrong with the man taking a little vacation...
but that's just my humble opinion.
Yeah unlike Bush who couldn't take a 5 minute break.

15. And if he stayed in DC he'd be criticized for dishonoring the war dead
I swear to God, if he gave every American citizen a million dollars, his critics would complain that it wasn't two million.
Once again that's how yall treated Bush.

2. Yes even Saint Reagan did it.
Just more fained outrage from the right.
President Reagan was at a summit meeting.

6. I believe some people have forgotten
That memorial day isn't about going to the beach, drinking beer and eating hamburgers.
It's one day out of the year to honor all those who have died defending this country with a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington by the Commander in Chief.
It's not a job you pawn off on anyone else unless you're hospitalized.
Uh-oh, the chisels are being sharpened.

7. The meaning behind "Decoration Day" has been lost. This early in his tenure he should be there.
Edited on Wed May-26-10 03:39 PM by Captain Hilts
He can send Biden or MObama to do it in subsequent years.
He'll be at a cemetery in Chicago, which is nice.
Nice touch to soften the critism there at the end.

9. He's attending a ceremony at another national cemetary
Aren't those veterans deserving as well?
And it's near his hometown crack dealer.

10. Arlington national Cemetery
Is a bit different. Soldiers from every single war from the revolution forward are buried at Arlington. The Tomb of the Unknowns, representing soldiers who died and whose remains were not able to be identified, is located at Arlington. It's not a matter of "deserving", it's an issue of the cemetery representing all fallen soldiers.
Lousy Freeper.

11. And Biden will take care of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown
I just don't have a problem with the President giving a tribute at a cemetary other than Arlington.

14. I have a problem with it
Are we asking too much of the President to take one day out of the year to appropriately and formally honor soldiers who died in battle? Does it make too great a demand on him?
And for the record, I don't give anyone else who couldn't be bothered to show up a pass either. Unless they're hospitalized, it's part of their job as Commander in Chief.
Which hammer to use?

He's had more vacation day than most union workers get. Hell, he's played more golf than most people get vacation days.

Reagan, HW Bush and GW Bush skipped Memorial Day. You should really read the whole thread. And he is attending Memorial Day events, just in Chicago and not Arlington National.
See above for President Reagan. As for the others, they did not skip in their first couple of years. They didn't do other things to snub the military time after time.

Aw Carp. I just brought this over, too. Mods, can they be merged?

I think you're right.

Obama wanted to be "the president". Ya know, the big guy that get's to call all the shots. The guy that get's to make his buddies kings, or at least barons and dukes. The guy that gets to live "the life" state dinners, free broadway tickets, travel away from all the peons in "his" country.
He isn't, and never has been, big on the idea of being President of the United States, CEO of one of the largest corporations in the world. Charged with protecting not only the citizens of his own country but de facto most of the citizens in the free world. He may like the idea of being the head of the corporation in the US with a monopoly on the use of force.
It is no surprise then, that he would have no respect for those that have died in defense of it and it's ideals.

Reagan was in a summit
41 was in Maine on the election trail
43 was in Normady for remembance.
Not the same as saying oh crap.....gotta fly to Louisiana before Chicago, I'm so tired I need a vacation....again.
-
So.... Obama is 'Going to be on vacation as The Gulf of Mexico dies' ? -- this is what the primitives would be shouting if it were Bush, right ?
-
Pretty sure the military won't miss this POS during the memorial! It's not like he gives a flyin' fug about them anyway!

OH HORSE SH*T!!!
It's his responsibility as our CINC to be there! Not send Brussels Biden the Human Gaffe Machine. That dope will ask Audie Murphy to stand up and be recognized.
His appearence at ANC for this wreath laying is a time where he's actually NOT grandstanding!
There is a reason why my old unit is out there as I type this placing small American flags in front of the graves in ANC...and it's the SAME reason why the POTUS should be there too!
-

Sure you don't. *rolls eyes*. You don't care as long as that President has a (D)by their name.
-
There are a few people like this :tinfoil: who think 0bama is going to Chicago this weekend to "secretly" give grand jury testimony in the Rezko and/or Blago trials.

Sending "Bugs" Biden is a slap in the face! That guy couldn't find his ass with both hands! It's almost a given he'll screw the pooch!
For the life of me, I could never figure out how in the world DemonRats thought to make a moron like Biden heir to the throne! The guys not fit to be president of a commode, let alone the most powerful nation in history!

Biden couldn't find his brain if it was his ass and he put both hands in his back pockets....
Coat racks are not only smarter than Biden, they are more useful as well....

So let me get this right...Bush waits 4 days before heading to NO after Katrina and gets reamed. But Barry the Jug-Eared Kenyan can skip town (on a holiday to honor fallen soldiers) while thousands of gallons of oil a day spill into the Gulf of Mexico?
The hypocrisy, it buuuuuurrrrrnnnnssssss!!!!!!

To clarify, Bush WAS FORCED to wait 4 days, because the feds couldn't do anything until the LA governor declared a state of emergency....
The oil spill happened of FEDERAL land, hence, the feds had jurisdiction from day 1. Barry finally realizes he can't vote "present" anymore, and is forced to decide...on day 34!

Lord Zero has apparently heeded the noise from his base. He is making a trip to waste fuel to visit the gulf before going to Play golf in Chicago.

Funny how that works...ignore the questions from the media...ignore the pleas from Gov Jindal...ignore questioning from within your own party...
But let James Carville fire a pissed off rant across the airwaves of ABC and by GOD we've got to hold a presser TODAY to address the oil spill in the gulf!
-
Ya know. It doesn't break my heart. The thought of obama soiling the ground of that sacred place is an abomination.
-
His vacation can wait a day. It is the right thing to do. Arlington is symbolic for our country, our vets and, our troops, and as our president, he needs to be there. Honor the fallen appropriately. Especially if you are the leader of this country.

Soleil, Obama is not going to Arlington. He's going to Chicago, where he'll visit a different cemetary.
Others at Moonbattery felt the same way Tucker does. They didn't want him around their fathers.
