Title: Names for Cats
Post by: Karin on May 26, 2010, 12:06:45 PM
My stepdaughter was driving yesterday, and came upon a cat who had been killed in the road.  There was a poor orphaned kitten next to it.  She picked it up and took it home, but her boyfriend got a bad allergic reaction.  Soooo my husband and I have yet another cat.

What are some good cat names?  Nothing's coming to me.  It's a boy, kinda peachy colored.

what are your other cats' names?  Perhaps something related -- for example, we had a male cat whom we called "Rowlph" (Ralph) because that's what he sounded like when he meowed.  My son brought home an orphaned male kitten shortly after and we named him Randy; so we had Ralph and Randy (Christmas Story).

My 3 that are from the same litter are Skyy, Bailey, and Cocoa (but she became Cocoa Puff because she was a puffball of fur, now she's called Puff or Puffer).

Jaz was my daughter's who named her and her sister. She really named Jasamine and her sister is Cleo....both Disney "princesses"....

Runnin' Buddy named hers Stoli, Booty and BeeBee....I could figure out the first two but not the third's and didn't want to ask.... :uhsure:

Those are pretty names, debk.  Sounds like daughters of a hip wealthy family!

Spike, Cookie, Weenie (found on Halloween), and Nora are the other cats.  How about Nick to go with Nora?

My husband picks dumb names for pets, for some reason.  When we were dating I promptly renamed them.  Spike used to be Buckwheat (Little Rascals), and Cookie used to be Eunice (Carol Burnett show).  He once had a dog he named "Blackie."   :p

Jinx, you know I can't name him Bo, what would people think?

Nick & Nora would work.  Maybe "Bean" or "Beans" to go with Weenie?

Heyyyy -- I had a black German Shepherd named "Blackie".  What's wrong with that??? :-)

Peachy Keen

I like that one.  "Keno" for short.

Don't ask my kids.  Youngest left me a white cat before leaving for college.  Named it "Sugar Mama."  The vet, a friend (of sorts), loved to call out in a sing-song voice "we're ready to see Suuuuugar Mama now!"  aaaargh

Nah.  Every cat eventually gets called that.

First of all, kudos and thanks to you for being a compassionate person and adopting the kitten.  Second, I have major allergic reactions to cats and dogs but that's what allergy shots and Benadryl are for, although admittedly some people can't handle the dander even then.
As for cats' names, I consider all my guys and gals people too, so all four dogs and eight cats have human names.  Not made up shit that requires a letter by letter spelling to make it understood, but a real name like Alex, for my orange kitty for example.
I dunno, I just like using people names for my critters.  YMMV.

Hey, have you had your cat spayed or neutered, Karin?

Well, gosh, no reason not to, except "Bingo" is a dog's name.  Geesh!

"There was a farmer had a dog and Bingo was his name-o.  B-I-N-G-O..."  That'll be stuck in my head.  *groan*

Dingleberry.  Oh wait, you weren't asking me to rename my kitten.

Our cats are:

Baby
Stitch
Kenzie
Charlotte

Give your cat a real person's name so it confuses everyone.

Name him Paul.

Jinx, he's still just a little baby.  Will definitely do it at the right time.

Thanks to njpines' suggestion about related names, I think we're going with Nick (Nicky as a baby), to go with our Nora.  Nora's the only one being half-way civilized to him at the moment.

He's settling right in and making himself at home.  Loves to play.  Thanks to all for responding!  You have some great names!

Hobbes

Hobbes

We have had two cats named Hobbes, or a variation of it. Both were and are Grey Russians.

Hobbes 1 was a great big huge lovable mug who cuddled and drooled when his ears were scratched, chased groundhogs and squirrels and left offeringsof dead animal parts at the back door. He drank his saucer of milk out of the baby's hi-chair, and generally ruled the house as a harmless dictator. He passed away many years ago and I never had the heart to replace him.

...until I spotted a little grey russian kitten at our neighbor's ranch. She wasn't a pure bred- but cute as hell.

Hobbs 2, or Hobgoblins, our current feline ruler, is a much smaller female who terrorizes the dogs and the other older bigger cat from the safety of her cardboard box. She can be found on top of the fridge, the bookcases, the TV cabinette...prefers her milk in a saucer, likes salami and knocking over any object she finds. Lego stormtrooper helmets are her favorate play toy. The larger, older, crankier cat (tigger) calls her the Fruit-Bat.

This thread just confirms why cats are leading the numbers in pets.....most of us have more than one.  :-)

Name it either Beavis or Butthead.  I'd pick Butthead.

Nora looks kinda like Dutch's avatar.  She's such a duchess, and regards us as her lady-in-waiting and her butler.  But, we know the real truth about her.  She wasn't to the manor born, she was on the streets.  She'd hang out at the Legion in Norwood, NY, hop up on barstools and get her sustenence by flirting with soldiers and sailors.  She's just a barrag and now look at her.  Prima Donna.
