Creepy.

I know right?!?

She says she is on my paternal grandma's side of the family.  She is visiting someone in Anaheim and wants to come meet me this Saturday.

Any way you can check that out? I for one do not like "relatives" that show up out of nowhere. Half the time it turns out they are wrong, and no harm done, but you never know.

If y'all do meet, meet in a public place and bring a friend, if possible. I'm connecting with a lot of distant relatives lately because my immediate family is dead (ancestral-wise). All I really have left as far as direct blood relatives is my daughter. That's a whole 'nother story.

She is coming by the house this weekend, my husband will be home.  I could have totally just screwed myself but oh well...I guess I will find out.

Did you ask her what relatives you had in common?

I had a half sister turn up a couple of years ago....she gave me lots of info regarding my dad's side of the family, some that would have been difficult to find out....on our first phone conversation.

The DNA test was done a couple of weeks later....

If you can, call her back BEG.  I'd ask some questions that she should have answers to if she's just a second cousin....if she can't answer them, she may not be for real...

You Texas folks are too nice....do not let her come to your home...

Call her back, say that you will need be out for xyz reason and if it's possible for her to meet you at a local restaurant instead.

Again, that could be the new yorker in me, we are paranoid about everything and trust no one.
(until they have rightfully owned that trust)

Yes, that is why I said she claims to be from my paternal grandma's side of the family.  She threw out some names that I was familiar with.

I trust everyone unless they give me a reason not to.  Probably not the smartest quality to have.

Dutch, your mind is as firmly in the gutter as mine.    :lmao:

BEG, I WOULD NOT invite the woman to your home. I'm a Cali native, and no way in hell would I do that until I know who I'm dealing with

Ok,  you checked it out. Good girl.

I agree with HG -- don't let her come to your house!  However, I guess she knows the address now?

She already had my address.  Apparently she got it from her Mom who got it from my Grandma.  My grandma wanted us to meet yet she failed to tell me.  Funny thing is my grandma called me today for the first time in weeks and she didn't mention it.  When I called her back to ask her she said she forgot to tell me.

My grandma is always talking about people and relatives I don't know (or may have met when I was a little girl).   Always telling me to call them if they live around where I live (I don't).  This poor woman probably doesn't want to meet me any more than i want to meet her.

Some women just called me and claimed to be my 2nd cousin that I have never heard of before.  She wants to come meet me this weekend.

Beg now you got me curious, a 1st cousin is the off spring from your father or mothers siblings {child of aunt or uncle.}

Their children would be a 1st. cousin, once removed.-----I believe ???  Or would they be call a second cousin??

This problem with relationship causes any number of arguments at my family reunions.  Then some of the relatives that were late baby's and 20 years difference in siblings for reasons of respect are called aunt or uncle. Not cousin. More family confusion.

Not to forget that with Sir names one will at times run into someone whose mother never married and they have the maternal last name.

Would a second cousin be the child of the child of a grandmother.??

Darn it all BEG, now I am going to have to ask my Mom who my 2nd cousin is. I know all my 1st cousins and I believed that my 3rd. cousins and I shared the same Great grandfather.

Interesting that this Cousin calls you out of the blue.  Most folk looking for family write, call or use Email to introduce themselves for a few months before a face to face.

I have been in your situation and those looking for family move very slow, one does not just pop up like this claiming family ties to complete strangers.

I would beg off this time, suggest meeting another time, Please remember all the crimes against homeowners by people that claim they saw an ad on EBay , go to the house and rob them.

First, corespond for a few months, ask, how did you find me.  ?  Get as much in writing from them as you can.  One never knows when a Scam Artists may know someone related to you or even been a friend of your family and know about your family.  If someone in the family claims to know her, ask when they last saw her.

If family gave her your phone number ask if the person got it from phone conversations or in person.

Please be carefull, have them send you some documention, they found you, it is up to them to PROVE who they are.  You in turn need not give them ANY imformation whats so ever--not even your birth date.

So just surpose this is on the level and the relitive gets huffy and goes away----Since you have never had them in your life before, don't worry about that, until you got the call you never heard or knew about her.  No problem, a cousin this far from the family, you will not miss if you never meet them.

PLEASE DON'T EVEN THINK OF MEETING UP WITH THIS WOMAN, Think about it, if the caller were a man telling you he was you great uncle, would you go to meet him.????

I was trying to post when I saw that it was Mom and Grandma that gave the woman your address and phone no.  You say she is coming to your home soon, WOW, this may turn out to be one of the best things you have ever done, or the worse..

I do hope this has a happy ending for you, Good Luck and God Speed.

What is a second cousin? Second cousins are people who share the same great-grand parents, but not the same grand parents or parents.

In a prior post I said that I called my grandma and she said that she is my 2nd cousin, she gave my number and address to her mother who gave it to her daughter.  My grandma is kind of  a PITA like that.  I also called my Mom and she said that she knows "of" her but has never met her.

Doono if I'd let her see your home, who knows what she really wants. She may be a  $$$$$$$$$$ leech.

There isn't any for her to leech off of us.  Obama took it all in taxes.

Take her picture and don't let her in the door until you post it online. Tell her it's "insurance"
