13. Nice try, but not very close
the reason the Dems don't "present a coherent and robust alternative" is that they have no media access. Period.

Damn ABC,NBC,CBS,AP,The NYT,MSNBC,CNN...etc,they just aren`t getting the message out there.

18. No, if they had media access, you would HEAR a coherent alternative
Edited on Sun May-23-10 02:28 PM by Doctor_J
and it would not be overrun with fascist propaganda like it is now. Feingold/Merkley/Boxer would actually get their plans broadcast. the "Center" would not be halfway between Obama and Beck, it would be halfway between Obama and Kucinich. You would get saturation coverage of cheney's crimes and cowardice, of Bush's drunkeness and stupidity, of Gingrinch's adultery, Beck's mental illness and arrest for rape, and Palin's corruption as governor.

As I said below, this political paradigm in the US will change the day after Big Media is wiped out, and not before.

Edit: as for local dems no knowing what the "big plan" is, a glance at the topics should tell you that a LOT of Dems are addicted to hate radio and Cabal News.

Silence them!!!

6. Education - which is why the GOP wants to destroy
our educational system and make it harder and harder for people to go to college.

With an educated populace, they would be toast. Sadly, we're going the other way.

9. Because Politics Has Become A Sporting Event.............
..........and the Republicans are "their team." And people don't care whether it's good for the country or not, they just want "their team" to win so they can go in to work the next day, puff out their chests, and brag, "We won, so neener neener neener." I've seen people adopt positions because they're Republican positions despite the fact that they directly contradict what they believe in their own personal lives, or what's best for themselves (because disagreement makes you disloyal, remember?) Actually, I see this happening with shocking regularity. How many "Young Republicans" do YOU know who were out getting drunk and chasing skirts on Saturday night, and then found out that the Republican Party was for "family values" and started preaching the evils of doing that exact thing?

Here's the worst example. I have a friend who in all other respects is a great person, but is a rabid right-wing, Rush-listening shill for the Republican Party. At the time of this conversation, he was a high school teacher (he's since gone back to school hoping to become a college professor--because we all know how much Republicans like college professors, right?), and we were talking on the phone the night after a state-wide vote. Among the many issues on the ballot was a levy issue for HIS SCHOOL. He asked me if I voted for this and that, and I answered him, then I half-jokingly asked him if he voted for his school levy. He asked me if I did, and I said yes, I ALWAYS vote to support education. He told me he voted AGAINST his own school's levy. I asked him why and his answer was, "My taxes are high enough." I about fell over. Not only was this school notorious for voting down levies, and had gotten to the point where they were about to start making DRASTIC cuts (forget all the extracurriculars, this school was talking about cutting busing, as well as firing some of the teachers with the least amount of seniority--of which MY FRIEND WAS ONE!!!)

I always knew that most Republicans voted that way even though it was directly against their own best interests, but I just figured most of them were too dumb to realize it. This guy actually voted to cut his own throat.........KNOWINGLY. Because he valued his ideology over his own well-being.

It's "my team, right or wrong." These idiots actually root for "wins" and "losses" like the Republican Party is their favorite sporting team. It would be funny if it weren't so sad. AND if they weren't dragging the entire country down with them.

Oh look...a bouncy.

What group recently trespassed on private property to terrorize a 14 year old kid that was home alone.  Which president is constantly abusing his position to attack civilians that disagree with.  The answer isn't Republicans.

Who has called for pitchforks and torches to terrorize the wealthy, or anyone for that matter?  Who was it that beat up a guy in a wheel chair?  Who bit a person that disagreed with them?

The GOP had control of both houses for over a decade with a two-term President in office before they started pissing people off.  Obama, Reid, and Pelosi managed to do it in less than 4.

You guys rock.

I honestly think in their delusion they believe that.
To them anything short of imprisonment of those speaking contrary beliefs is unfair.

DUmmies wanting a goodly part of what someone else has worked hard for is greed in my book.

Well, the left has had control of education for decades you'd think everyone would be smart by now. Decades of brainwashing and the American spirit is alive and well. That must gall you. Not everyone needs or wants to go to college. One of the most successful people I know has a high school education. He's opening his second lighting store, even in this economy. It's not a one size fits all world but for a group of people who consider themselves all progressive and unique and smart and all you sure want everyone to be the same. You just can't handle people who don't think just like you. Sometimes people don't fit in neat little boxes of race, gender, sexual orientation, or thought.

Some of us didn't have the  discipline for college, even if we did have the smarts for it.

If they pass the DREAM Act, it won't matter anyway. The colleges will be filled with illegals.
Quote
The legislation, introduced by Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) and Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), is a broad amnesty measure disguised as an educational initiative that would allow millions of illegal aliens who meet a very loose definition of “student” to qualify for green cards. In addition, it provides in-state tuition benefits for illegal aliens that will displace legal residents competing for a fixed number of college admission slots and taxpayer subsidies.

â€œThe DREAM Act would not only allow millions of newly legalized illegal aliens to compete for their jobs, but allow them to compete for their own children’s educational opportunities. With private university tuitions already out of reach for most middle class families, and tuitions at public universities rising three times faster than median family incomes, the DREAM Act would be more than a reward for illegal aliens. It would crush the hopes and dreams of countless American families trying to provide opportunities to their own children.”

Try Beck's treatment for alcoholism and no arrest record whatsoever.  Heck, with the life he led in college, drinking, partying, and smoking weed, he could be one of you, except he grew a brain....

Combine the DREAM Act with the recent takeover of the student loan system by the Feds and we could end up with only minorities going to college.
