I just talked to a young soldier outside (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3033822#3033849)
Really nice guy, but soooooo young. He was expressing frustration over the protesters today. He started up the conversation. I told him that I was glad that he was serving, but I don't agree with him about the war, and that we shouldn't have gone there in the first place. He said that he was more frustrated about the traffic. OK, I can understand that, it does get to be frustrating if you are trying to navigate the streets of DC today.
Of course then we got into the war itself. He said the repuke line, if we leave now, the people who have died, died for nothing. I told him again that we shouldn't have gone in the first place, every reason we were given about why we went to Iraq was a lie. He said "That wasn't the reason we went to war". I asked him what was the reason we went to war. He told me that it was to make the country better. I told him that making countries "better" was not a reason to attack and invade a country. We had no business being there.
He then asked me if I were an Iraqi, wouldn't I be glad that we were there? I told him NO, that if I wasn't dead, I would be worse off than before the war. He told me I was wrong, that things are improving. He said that he had been in the battle of Faluja, and how things are so nice there now. I said that John McCain who bragged about a market he went to last year couldn't go near the place this year because it was so unsafe. He kind of shrugged it off and said "it happens".
Then I started in on the water and electricity in Iraq, and how the water quality was horrible now and that they have less electricity now than they did before the war. He told me I was wrong, we had just built 3 brand new power plants over there. I asked him how many we took out before we built 3, and how many were being used for the US Embassy. He told me none were being used for the US Embassy. Things were improved there.
I just couldn't take it any more. I shook my head, thanked him for serving in the military, and left. Seems his job was to escort some General around, I guess the General has been serving up Kool-aid for the poor misguided youth.
Well obviously MiniMe knows more about what's going on in Iraq than this young soldier. Him actually being "in the battle of Faluja" doesn't count for anything I guess.
MM sounds like a real jerk.

How does one argue with someone like that? Someone so deluded they believe they know more about Iraq than the folks who have actually been there. How do they know more? Well it's not from watching the news or reading the newspaper because of course they're all corporate-controlled and can't be trusted. They know because some blogger sitting in his basement, who likewise has never been to Iraq, told them so. :whatever: That's what we're dealing with here.
That's why it's pointless to debate these loons. They have to be defeated, squashed. Forget buzzwords and phrases like divisiveness, unity, compromise, bringing the country together, and all the other trite, feelgood slogans politicos like Obama mouth on a regular basis. There is no room for agreement or compromise with these sick bastards, especially after the way they've shown their collective asses over the past seven years. **** them. It's gone too far. We're in a battle for the soul of this country.

Liberal arrogance inhibits this idots ability to recognize that someone knows more than him. It could be an Iraqi citizen instead of a soldier and this libtard would still believe the New York Times over the truth.

The state of the electrical grid in Baghdad was so bad due to degradation and lack of maintenance that Saddam was forcing other cities to send power down the grid to Baghdad.
Saddam's ouster forced Baghdad to rely on it's own power...which wasn't much.
All of the power generating facilities were of the 50-60's era and the kind that don't have spare part made for them these days. The Iraqi's were cannibalizing two generators to get one to work at most of the power plants.
In short we had to build the Baghdad power grid from scratch.

I like the hospitals with the 50-60's tech the most, but Iraq was great before the US got there.
