Arizona dares L.A. to carry out boycott
The spat over Arizona's new immigration expanded Tuesday as a state official dared the city of Los Angeles to follow through on its new boycott by agreeing to give up the 25 percent of electricity that city gets from Arizona sources.

In a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce said a boycott war is bad for both sides, and said he would "be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements" to end the electricity flowing to Los Angeles.

"I am confident that Arizona's utilities would be happy to take those electrons off your hands," Mr. Pierce said. "If, however, you find that the City Council lacks the strength of its convictions to turn off the lights in Los Angeles and boycott Arizona power, please reconsider the wisdom of attempting to harm Arizona's economy."

This is not from a favored source, but its the only one I found. It should be available elsewhere as well

8. In this case, it may be a good idea. I'm an AZonan who was here when the state refused
to recognize MLK day thanks to our truly demented guv, Ev Mecham. Keep in mind that tourism is far and away our #1 industry--those boycotts hurt tourism big-time, and in short-order, tourism made their feelings known and the law changed.

And the threat of boycotts as well as thoise already in progress are having an effect already.

Bullshit. This isn't as easily spun into a racial issue as the MLK Day thing was. This is about protecting Americans and enforcing laws the Feds don't have the guts to. Stand firm, Arizona.

16. Not hardly. The City of Los Angeles is a very big purchaser.
The boycott is already causing economic trouble there. This boycott is growing.

Dream on, dickhead.

26. Brewer is toast indeed.
She's finished. She doesn't realize it yet. But she will become a poster child for racism for decades now. She's toast.

Arizona will eventually turn this around by kicking the jerks out because the pain is going to be awful. There will be no economic recovery in Arizona there and when homeowners watch residential real estate prices beginning to rebound all around the nation (and they are) and see that they are left behind, things will change.

This was a very racist move under the window dressing of controlling the border. John McCain's ad with the white border patrol agent who says, "I know you are ONE OF US" is just about as racist as it gets. John McCain is not a border agent. The border agent in the ad could have been a woman, a latino, an African-American, but no, it was a white man. So the message was: John McCain you are one of us white people." Clear and simple.

They think they are clever with all this shit, but they are fools.

This boycott is just beginning.

"... is toast." Hmm, now where have I heard that before?

28. Brewer's counter website is very funny.
It gives the message that Arizona is under siege AND invites tourists in at the same time. The problem will be finding people who want to vacation in a "war zone".

LOL

Knowing the type of people who would boycott over something like this just makes me want to visit AZ all the more. Less chance I would have to come across their unwashed asses while there.

And the people who dismissed it.

When you think about it, the stupid ****s who came up with "freedom fries" are the same stupid ****s who came up with this law.

Yeah, the Montgomery bus boycott was exactly the same as this. :whatever:

Wow...by watching the people at this "DU" forum, I really am starting to learn fast. Didn't know they were THIS crazy left. I know Mike Malloy crazy, but this seems worse than Malloy.

ROCK ON Arizona!! Power should be shut down there. Might calm them down on this protesting what the federal government won't enforce crap.

PS: What does "DU" stand for, by the way. Curiosity.

the dude from arizona that wrote this letter was on the john and ken show today.

the city of los angeles gets 25% of its electricity from arizona.   but it is la's electricty, because la has made huge investments in the arizona power grid (like a 21% ownership in the navajo nuclear power plant from which it gets 12% of its electricity, among other investments in several power generation plants.)

so, for all of the noise about the la boycott of arizona and the $7 million dollars that represents, la spends $100's of millions in arizona for power alone.  and that is not going to change.  nor will any other existing contracts for services that are already in place.  you can't break a contract based on a city council resolution.

its like when all of the dummys announce their support for a boycott of walmart.  followed by the statement that they have never shopped there.

all noise, no real impact...

Eh, she does that looking for street cred with the cretin brigade over there.  If you're white and straight, you'd damn well at least be married to or in a relationship of some sort with someone darker complected.  That allows you to piggyback on to their victim status. :whatever:
Failing all that, there's the "I'm friends with" line, followed by the obligatory self-hate for belonging to the only approved racist group in the world, Whitey. ::)

A few unexplained mechanical/electrical problems that cut power to LA by 5-7% for a few hours that then are restored.  Maybe an unexpected plant closure for maintenance that is a 2-3% supplier.  then some hikes in fees for the needed maintenance and updates of 10% to LA. See what the LA council does when the ball goes back into their court.

Or when they tell a story and have to admit going to Wal-Mart.  They give every excuse why they HAD to shop there.

When I first heard that DUmmies don't/won't go to Walmart, and shopped at Target instead, I started a rumor at Free Republic that both Walmart AND Target were entering into a partnership with Haliburton to build "detention centers" for "political dissidents" of the BFEE.  This was about the time a lot of wacko websites were posting pics of "barbed-wire topped chain-link fence enclosed parking lots out in the middle of nowhere" as proof Bush/Cheney/Rove were going to round up liberals and have them deterred and "re-educated" in said "camps"....   :mental:

I stated that all NEW Walmart and Target stores were being built with "special" basements that will house political prisoners and use them as slave labor to manufacture the goods being sold in the store above, in return for food, shelter, clothing, health care and "re-education".  The downside was that the only entertainment they got was country music and NASCAR racing.  I further enhanced the story by stating I worked for Walmart (which I did at the time), our store was doing some "major renovations" (which it was), and that I had noticed that there were "special doors" in the back of the store that no one was allowed near, and there was a "special enclosed loading dock" that always had a truck parked in it, but no one from the store was allowed near it, and no one in the store was ever called in to unload this truck.  I even stated that I was approached by "uniformed management" that told me they had run a background check on me, and if I wanted a "special promotion" to come see them, but I was also told that if asked, our "meeting" never happened, and if I knew what was good for me, I would keep this a total secret....

You would not believe the number of DUmmies that believed the story....    :rotf:

There is no such place as Navajo Nuclear.  Palo Verde is the only nuke plant west of Texas not located in CA.  DWP and SCE DO, however, own portions of Palo Verde, as well as San Juan Generating Station, and Glen Canyon and Hoover Dams.

I posted them on Free Republic some time ago.  I usually just took what DUmmies were claiming about the BFEE and added my own little twist to it.  Lurking DUmmies took it back to the hive and went nuts with it....

PJ Comix ran several posts about this in his "DUmmie FUnnies"....

I post as "dirtbiker" at FR....

California is so screwed up as it is, I cannot believe they would start a sh*tstorm with a state that owns 21% of their power.

On the plus side, gang violence in Cali may decrease since they may not even have street lights. Cutdown on gang shootings would be nice.

I think why they go to Target vs. Walmart is because Target is pro-union.  A DUmmie would sooner vote Republican than shop at a Walmart, because of Wallyworld's anti-union attitude....

Never let facts get in the way of DUmmie logic....

Problem is, you'd have to cut the available power to the Cal-ISO by a LOT more than 7 percent...

http://www.caiso.com/

LADWP actually has a surplus of generation versus demand, and while they have to communicate with ISO to coordinate selling/buying of power, LADWP was actually a lot better off in 2000-01 than were SCE/PG&E, because they were not investor-owned utilities and could let rates "float".
