[T]hose comments were taken out of context and the discussion of the law was meant to show the differences between how a free society handles human rights issues and the restrictive practices enforced in China, Posner tells The Cable in an exclusive interview.
“The broader context in which this was raised was to discuss the political openness of this society and the value of an open debate,†Posner said. “We never did get into the merits of the Arizona law. It was not in any way a comparison between that law and any specific law or practice in China.â€â€¦
“I should have been clearer, what I was saying is that there is broader issue in [American] society about discrimination and we need constantly and always to be addressing that issue,†he said…

Doesn't China usually shoot illegal aliens?
No, but they do shoot people for crimes that wouldn't get more than ten years here and probably two years in Europe.
From what I heard of the guy on videotape, it didn't sound like the critics were taking his comments out of context at-frickin'-all.

If Mr. Posner was so eager to talk about the treatment of immigrants, he could have brought up the tens of thousands of refugees generously admitted to America each year because they face persecution elsewhere. This number reached 60,108 in 2008 according the Department of Homeland Security. Ironically, the largest portion of these—24%—were fleeing oppression in China. As it turns out, Beijing is rather less humane than the U.S. to those it considers illegal immigrants. North Korean refugees caught inside China, many starving and in search only of food, are repatriated forcibly and face time in brutal prison camps and sometimes death for their attempted emigration.
Finally, it is not the job of federal officials to criticize, before foreign parties, the laws passed by the states. The State Department is supposed to act as an advocate of American interests, not a Washington-based repository of elitists that is embarrassed by the citizens it is supposed to represent. The Department’s opinion on domestic matters is required in precisely no instance.
Mr. Posner and his boss in the White House owe an apology to the people of Arizona—and to the citizens of the compassionate, generous and humane country they purport to represent.

Arizona’s two senators are demanding that a top State Department official apologize for comparing the state’s new immigration law with human rights abuses in China.
“As the [official] in charge of the Bureau of Democracy and Human Rights, your remarks are particularly offensive,†Republican Sens. John McCain and Jon Kyl wrote Michael Posner, the assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor. “We demand that you retract your statement and issue an apology.â€
“You seemed to imply [the Arizona law] is morally equivalent to China’s persistent pattern of abuse and repression of its people,†McCain and Kyl wrote in demanding the apology. “To compare in any way the lawful and democratic act of the government of the state of Arizona with the arbitrary abuses of the unelected Chinese Communist Party is inappropriate and offensive.â€

I think we are getting a new dictionary.
Mis-spoke = lying son of a bitch.
Quoted out of context = lying son of a bitch.
I see a trend developing.
It is no surprise that Obama's popularity dropped 8 points this week. He is really on the wrong side of the immigration issue and the public is fed up with him and what he stands for.
