Damned right! It's about time we got serious with that oil slick. Torpedo that sucker!

Obama needs to send in the Navy
to shut down the freaking oil gusher - BP is just playing games to keep it open. Sickening spectacle before our eyes.

2. What expertise do you think the Navy has in this area?
The Navy and CG are both outstanding branches of service but this is not what they do.
Are you kidding? With Teh One on the bridge wing there's nothing they can't do!

5. I figure that BP figures...
...along with Cheney, that if they kill the gulf, there will be no reason not to go ahead and drill baby drill. Sure, they hate that the well is spewing all that oil, but it hardly costs them anything. The people who buy gas will pay for the cleanup. Not BP execs. They still get their M$ paychecks.
So, the gulf gets sterilized via the oil and now its good for nothing but oil?
Sounds like a plan.
That just takes a special kind of stupid. I mean, the regular 3/$1.00 stupid just wouldn't do.

6. Since when does the Navy
have special - or any - expertise in underwater oil wells?

8. Well, obviously BP doesn't...
Well hell, by that standard let's just send some surfer dudes down there with really big mops.

10. They have more than anyone,
not that it's proving enough. But what exactly does one expect the USN to accomplish there?

29. heh
Navy has underwater experience, right? RIGHT?
BP has profit experience and obviously hasn't a damn clue about the mess they caused.
Send in the Navy. I want an Admiral heading this up.

I'm sure the Navy could have fixed this already.
I guess, unlike you, I place more faith in the US Navy, not BP.

49. The Navy is good at what they do.
Working 5000 ft below surface (roughly 3x the crush depth of their deepest subs) isn't one of them.

Yes, the Navy is absolutely terrified of the crushing underwater pressures!! Swim away, Navy, swim away!
Who do you think developed deepwater subs? EH?
Are you wearing some bass-ackwards tin foil?

9. Military response?
The Coast Guard is on it.
Nat Guard Troops are placing booms, etc. So the Army is on it.
The Air Force is spraying dispersant. AF is on it.
The oil is coming from underwater and the Navy ain't on it? WTF?
I say we should bring the CIA in on it, too. Capture some of the leaking oil and send it to Gitmo for questioning.

18. I believe the Navy is involved with protecting our waters, right?
Not everything is about military-industrial kickbacks.
We must call the oil slick's bluff with a projection of force in that area.

I was listening to Coast to Coast AM last night and some crazy woman called in with this same suggestion. She also recommended putting a giant magnet over the hole and a few other really stupid suggestions. I'll give the host credit for hanging up on her silly ass.

All we need is one Coast Guard Cutter to go in and cut off the well...right...RIGHT?
Cut off things...ain't that what a Cutter does?
...or just put in some new rubber washers...that stopped my faucet from leaking.
How about installing a new washerless valve?
Hey, I'm just trying to help the intellectual elite with ideas....

Coast Guard: Perhaps this foghorn will answer your question. MWAH...MWAAAAH

You guys are all missing the obvious:
Send TominTib to the Gulf with swim trunks, a pair of fins, and a large rubber bathtub stopper. He'd have the leak plugged, and the Gulf polution-free, in an hour.
God I miss TominTib. :-)

I smell MONEY here. Time to start investing in Pacific Coast fishing company's. Indonesia has a huge farmed operation for Tilapia and farmed Salmon is a biggie in Canada. That program about catching King Crabs is so wildly popular. Today the price is $14-15.00 a pound in New England. Once the gulf supplies are no more, the Atlantic and Pacific reserves will soon dry up. By soon I am thinking 5-10 years. We have over fished this part of the Atlantic that the insane rules and regulations now in force has closed down 45% of the family businesses.
Anyone ever buy a Maine Lobster that had been in an oil spill.?? I did years ago, just once in a restaurant and that was enough for me.
Everyone in the fishing industry and their customers are going to be paying such high prices for fish, shrimp, clams and oysters it boggles the mind. Where will we get bait fish.??
So much to worry about, the whales that eat 7 ton of plankton a day will they die out.? If they do, will the plankton continue to grow and take the oxygen from the water causing more dead zones.
For the Navy, what will operating in oil filled waters do to our Subs.? a buildup on the hull and antennas may cause problems, how do you get oil off a parascope lens.?
Everything on earth is connected to the survival of everything else.
What will our farmers use for fertilizer as most have fish emulsion in them.
The darn Asian Carp 4-5 foot nastys are threatening to get into our Great Lakes, every Chief in the upper North are trying to figure out how to cook them, like Cat Fish they are extremely boney. Also it is said their taste is an acquired taste may take some years for Americans to get use to eating them.
As everyone wrings their hands trying to stop the oil flow, how can we trust anyone when we are told they found something that works?
-
Catfish actually aren't bony at all, but you're right, carp are a bony fish. My brother and I used to catch them for fun, as they do get big. There were a few people who kept them, and one old guy told us how he prepared them. He would chunk them up and stick them in a pressure cooker. Once they were cooked long enough with the bones mushy as with canned fish, they would use it as in Salmon Croquette, fish patties. He said it was very good, although I've never tried it.

"Dilution is the solution," as someone said on this forum once. The slick will disperse and life will return.
It is not the end of the world.
-
How to cook Carp.
You get a nice fresh cut pine board and nail the carp to it. Then you baste the carp with yellow mustard, honey and cinnimon, repeat every few minutes while baking in a 350 degree oven for 4 1/2 hours....take carp from oven, remove nails and discard carp, eat board while still warm.
There ain't many bones in 60 pound catfish.

It's the fourth time, now--
"Dilution is the solution to pollution." Told to me when I worked at the lab, by my semi-lefty supervisor.
