Post by: cavegal on May 16, 2010, 02:26:19 PM
Any fans of Nascar? Any non-fans?

Bring back "stock" cars... not this crap they're racing now.

I'd rather watch SCCA and old British Touring Car racing on Youtube.

Oh yes.  Currently, I'm in a NASCAR pool that someone at work turned me onto.  I did get a week's win (the week Kurt Busch won--can't quite remember where).  My drivers have stunk the last few weeks, though.  Jimmie Johnson getting the drive-through penalty absolutely killed me today (not that I would have done well if he had won, but c'mon now!).  Lessee--in addition to Johnson and Kurt Busch, I've got Harvick, Logano, Kenseth, Kahne, Montoya, and Sam Hornish.

NASCAR has been ruined, I can't put my finger on it, but in all those years prior to the last few, one driver winning 4 straight championships.................well had that happened in the 70's, 80's or 90's.......hell we would've known everthing about them and their cars and I mean everything.

Sorry it's not what it was and probably never will be again

I don't like the team thing. 4 drivers to one owner.

Chris and Crazy Horse hit it.

They drive cars no one outside of millionaires can afford. There is a disconnect between fan and driver now unlike when they were driving the stock Chevy's, Chryslers, etc.

Corporate money and ownership have led to more Yankees entering the sport, your Jeff Gordons, Kevin Harvicks, etc. I want to see some more Southerners up in there, but the slick "marketing teams" despise them. The best we get in that respect is "Junior"...

My wife and my inlaws love Jeff Gordon.  I give them Hell every chance I get. :-)

Well, back when they beat and banged on the track and then finished it in the pits, ....that was fun....they brought the yankees in and won't let the rednecks whup their ass in the pits....no fun any more.

I guess I'm a little sour because I got to see the greats of the sport learn to race on dirt before they became "The Greats".

Just about every county in a southern state had a dirt track years ago. My home town track was billed as "The Fastest 1/2 Mile In The South". It probably was because it had long straightaways and extremely high banked turns. The track  measured slightly over a 1/2...on the inside...and the banking steep enough that it was dangerous to work the track...I know...I worked it a couple of times.

I used to daydream about building a 1 mile dirt track for NASCAR to hold a race on... it would have to be a short race...probably 50 laps at most due to drying out and turning to a dust cloud....with a large "winner take all" purse.

Sounds like Bristol.  I know it's not, though.

IIRC, there's a track that some of the NASCAR guys in their "minor leagues" race on, near Boston (yes, Massachusetts!), that's .4 mile a lap.

Walk around singing "Jeff Gordon's Gay".  :rotf:

I used to live down the street from LMS(when it was still CMS) and worked there on race weekends. That area is like NASCAR Hollywood, you get used to running into drivers everywhere.  I haven't followed NASCAR since I moved to TX; still keep in touch with some tho.

List of tracks.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NASCAR_race_tracks

It seems like since they've formed all these multi-driver teams, there's too much team help rather than each driver out there for himself.

Can't stand Jr....but I think that's cause I didn't like his Daddy either.. :whatever:

I can work that theme into almost anything.  Jingles, other songs, news reports, you name it. :evillaugh:
