Title: Local school district has a problem with people paying for lunch
Post by: jinxmchue on May 15, 2010, 10:38:15 PM
They sent out an announcement this past week stating that if your kid has a negative balance on their lunch account, all they will get for lunch is a sandwich and milk until they are in the black.  Elementary and middle school kids have no cut-off, but high schoolers get cut-off after two days.  They also stated that they are in the process of contacting families that owe more than $50 for lunches.  $50!!!  Lunch here costs about $2 per day per child, so for one child, that would be an entire month of lunches.  Oy.

You get a sandwich and a juice here if you forget your lunch money. Lunch is $1.60.

Requires effort.

And the nutrition nazis are sure to inspect for candy, carbs and trans-fats.

I bet you could get reduced or free if you asked. They probably don't even check these days.

Of course even at $1.75 its still subsidized.

I am SOOOO glad that my kids are adults and out of the public school system.

I'd be having daily fights with the teachers, principles and board members these days.

ETA:  When my son was in 5th grade his lamed assed teacher wanted my ex-wife to put him on kiddy-cocaine.

I told her over my dead body.

My son was merely being an active 12 year old and had issues with sitting quitely on occassion.  Certainly nothing that required any sort of prescribed medication.

They get detention for candy at some schools. (http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpps/news/offbeat/texas-girl,-10,-given-week's-detention-for-contraband-candy-dpgonc-km-20100511_7492417)
Quote
A Texas third-grader was slapped with a week’s worth of detention for possessing a contraband substance, FOXNews.com reported Monday. The substance in question: a Jolly Rancher candy.

A teacher confiscated the unopened piece of candy, and the 10-year-old girl, Leighann Adair, served her detention during lunch and recess last week.

She and the friend who gave her the candy were told to write an essay about what they did and why it was wrong.

“It’s an extreme punishment for something so small,” Michael Brazda, Leighann’s stepfather, told FOXNews.com.

Despite Leighann’s parents' pleas for leniency for a girl they say “has never been in trouble before,” school officials from Brazos Elementary School are standing by the punishment. They argue that they need strict punishment to effectively enforce their no-gum, no-candy policy, which can cause a mess.

I would have told the school to kiss my ass.  No kid of mine would have served a detention for that sort of bullshit.

LOL...

I'm babysitting my grand daughter as I type this.

I've been doing that 3-5 days a week since about mid-March.

She's a little handful.

Here in the wonderful bankrupt blue state of Oregon, free breakfast is MANDATORY at all public schools!
Seems there are a shitload of "parents" that cannot grASSp the concept of feeding THEIR children prior to them leaving their home on a school morning.

Good Lord man...

You expect them to get up in time to actually feed the kids?
