Anti-porn provision sinks Dem jobs bill
By Jared Allen and Russell Berman - 05/13/10 01:59 PM ET
House Democrats had to scrap their only substantive bill of the week Thursday after Republicans won a procedural vote that substantively altered the legislation with an anti-porn clause.
Democrats had labeled their COMPETES Act -- a bill to increase investments in science, research and training programs -- as their latest jobs bill. It was the only non-suspension bill Democrats brought up all week.
But the Republican motion to recommit the bill -- a parliamentary tactic that gives the minority one final chance to amend legislation -- contained language prohibiting federal funds from going "to salaries to those officially disciplined for violations regarding the viewing, downloading, or exchanging of pornography, including child pornography, on a federal computer or while performing official government duties."
That provision scared dozens of Democrats into voting with Republicans to approve the motion to recommit. After it became clear the GOP motion was going to pass, dozens of additional Democrats changed their votes from "no" to "yes." In the end, 121 Democrats voted with Republicans -- only four fewer than the number of Democrats who voted with their party.

Democrats accused Republicans of playing politics with a bill designed to create jobs through investments in research and development.
"For anyone that is concerned about federal employees watching pornography, they just saw a pornographic movie. It's called; 'Motion to Recommit,'" Science Committee Chairman and bill author Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn) said. "It was a cynical effort to undermine an important bill for my 9-year-old daughter, for your kids and your grandkids."
"It's absurd," Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash.) said. "It's specious, and it's disgusting. And those are the nicest things I can say about it."

1. What am I missing here??
contained language prohibiting federal funds from going "to salaries to those officially disciplined for violations regarding the viewing, downloading, or exchanging of pornography, including child pornography, on a federal computer or while performing official government duties."
This sounds like a good thing to me.
Stopping workers and congress people from watching porn when they are suppose to be working......
BTW - the term angry dragon is a misogynist sexual act. The curiously ignorant may ask in the NSFW forum for an answer if they are so inclined.

2. This part, later in the same article:
"The GOP motion also stopped all funding authorizations in two years as opposed to the five years contained in the original bill, abolished each new program established through the legislation, and froze all existing programs at their current funding levels until the federal budget is balanced."
The anti-porn bit was to trick people into supporting it.
So you want money for 5 years instead of 2. If the bill is so awesome they shouldn't be any trouble extending it.

3. It's a "poison pill"
Making the process so cumbersome as to be impossible.
Do all democrat job-creation programs route through internet porn sites?
I might just have to take a second look at my voting affiliation.

4. Why don't you just have a different law that says...
that people who watch porn at work will get fired.
Probably doesn't even need to be a law. It can just be an executive order given to federal departments.
This amendment was just a tactic the GOP used so that any democrat who voted yes would have to say that he was in favor of paying federal employees to watch porn at work.
Yes, executive orders. That's what we need more of. Makes me wonder why we even bother with a legislature any more. How 1789 can you get?

5. It's not about that, it's about the recommit
The amendment is fine, but now the bill is stuck back in committee for who knows how long. People who voted for keeping the bill on the floor and on route to passage are now stuck with a "protecting child pornography viewers" vote. Basically, the vote was for the following:
"(a) We should send the bill back to committee, and (b) pornography is bad"
which scared a lot of Democrats into voting for it, because of part b.
Sigh.
So vote it back out of committee. You asshats own the committees.

I often wonder the same thing when looking at what your party's congress-idiots put into must have defense and budget bills over the last several years that never would have passed on their own.
Suck it up, bitches. You're going to reap the whirlwind of your corruption.

The Democrats are scared it would shut down the SEC and Barny Fwank

:lmao:
Yes it was a tactic and it was brilliant, the ads the Republicans could run during the mid-terms on that vote alone would be amazing.

The really PATHETIC part of this is that these DUmmy ****wits do not understand nor AGREE with the fact that using taxpayer or ANY employer computers or resources to view porn while on duty is MORALLY any ethically wrong.
These ****tards should be shot in the head prior to hiring!

Someone got a link to the Thomas LOC vote? I gotta see if my moonbat Che-Porter voted in favor of this. Just one more nail in that socialist bitch's coffin if she voted to fund surfing pron at work.

It must really suck to have overwhelming majorities in both houses, control of the White House, and still be outmaneuvered, huh?

Yes, but we had to have one person who's job it was just to monitor the sites being viewed and document it all. Building a tight case for dismissal is not easy in the Federal Government but it can be done. Amazing that the unions would always step up to defend the pervs. I often thought they should have had to have a rep sit with the porn mon to see what they were defending. There are some sick folks out there.

Just from my own experiences doing labor cases, I think many of them were.

Half her supporters are probably the ones watching and being watched. (Shuddrer think of Athena doing a porn video :tumbleweed:) Dude who you gonna replace her with I am not seeing a clear leader at this point.

Dude. Do not ever, ever, EVER!!! mention the words "Che-Porter" and "porn" in the same sentence EVER again.
That being said, while none of the current GOP candidates has really stood out (and I don't think Gunita will be the eventual nominee), when she can't even poll more than 35 percent against "any Republican candidate", her career is pretty much over.

Sorry. Hope you weren't eating. That said, she is one of the few women to actually look good in a burka. :whatever:
She an Kelly A both trade on the military rep of their old man, something I call military experience by injection. I am still rooting for Binne and Guinta at this point. Call it lesser of the evils strategy.

I admit Nixon made a comeback but I don't see Ovide as a Nixon. I have a hard time seeing Ovide carrying leaners and independents.
