At Highland Park High School, officials are canceling a girls' basketball team trip to Arizona to protest that state's new anti-immigration law.
A school official tells the Tribune that going to Arizona now -- after that state passed a harsh anti-immigration law -- "would not be aligned with our beliefs and values."
One parent tells ABC-7 that the girls on the team are very upset: "It was a big disappointment. They've been baking cookies to earn money for this and they were just very surprised. They just want to play basketball, that's all, these girls just want to play basketball."
Highland Park also draws students from the heavily Hispanic suburb of Highwood... and school officials said they had safety concerns as well about going to Arizona.

Nice to see that the ideologues are punishing kids for something they have no control of.

Was listening to a discussion about this story this morning. :banghead:
I say we need a boycott of the trendy shops & restaurants in Highland Park. :-)
-
G** D*** LIBERALS !!!!......they punish kids to relieve their own political frustrations....tell me again which party cares the most for kids.
-
I would bet money that the Chicago school is a whole lot more worried that they could be endangering the girls - and the chaperones - instead of the political correctness of the situation.....and they just don't want to admit it...because that would be interpreted as politically incorrect.
Particularly if the school is close to the Mexican border.
-
Those people running that school sound like NAZI's

Just the opposite is my guess. Highland Park has lots of Hispanic students. So, maybe the school was afraid some of their players would be deported. :fuelfire:

Administrators cite safety concerns
Isn't this Chicago? It has its own "safety" concerns, no?

Far north suburb. A pretty safe area.

Isn't this the general area where that illegal bitch holed up in a church for too damned long - claiming "sanctuary" - in order to avoid being deported a couple of years back? Then after she was caught out and finally arrested and deported, she showed up again a few months later?
I say we take off and nuke the whole *******ed site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

They're soliciting calls from Highland Park parents (or pretty much anyone) on a Chicago radio station:

There's also a poll on the right side of the page:
Do you agree with Highland Park High School's decision to cancel the girls' basketball team trip to Arizona?
No

Why are the kids being punished like that

Only moments after taking the stage tonight at the Rosemont Theatre, former Alaska governor and conservative firebrand Sarah Palin took on officials of Highland Park High School for canceling a trip to Arizona by its girls’ basketball team because of opposition to the state’s controversial new immigration law.
“Keeping the girl’s basketball team off the court for political reasons? Those are fighting words,†Palin said. Noting the school has allowed student trips to China, Palin questioned whether school officials knew “how they treat women in China.â€
School officials said the Arizona immigration law that requires police to check the immigration status of suspects was not “aligned with our beliefs and values.â€
“An economic and political boycott of one of our sister states is not a way to secure our borders,†Palin said, using the title of her first book to encourage the team members to “go rogue, girls.â€
Acknowledging that she was appearing on President Barack Obama’s “home turf,†Palin, who also is a Fox NEWS commentator joked, “It’s Chicago, not MSNBC.â€

I know they don't look kindly on folks inside their borders without papers.

Jail for 20, but you get "sick" go to the "hospital" and end up in India.....as spare parts..... :evillaugh:

Why are the kids being punished like that
That was my first thought. Why is a Shitcago school punishing it's students for a harmless law passed in another state?
-
They should go to Haiti instead. lol

I hope those who support the Arizona law come here and spend some of their hard earned dollars to make up for the weasels who are boycotting us. I say spend their hard earned dollars because unlike the liberals, people who stand with us know the value of a dollar because they earned it. Liberals are scum. For my part, I'll gladly come help pack out all those who hate living here because we have the nerve to try to enforce our border security, using the federal laws the f-----g Obama government doesn't have the political stones to enforce. Just get the hell out of the way, you freaking pussies. :fuelfire:

I think the AZ HP ought to go to "strict enforcement" for cars bearing CA, IL plates........May be those revenues would surpass some of the convention losses, and without subjecting themselves to touists.
