PREDICTION: They'll arrest somebody for the Times Square Event within 48 hours

He had Connecticut plates on the SUV that were registered to another vehicle.

This was a full blown amateur which is indicative of a completely domestic event.

I'm about 75% sure they already have a name and are seeking the perpetrator now.

I'm betting it's a veteran, which means the fingerprints are in the FBI database.

24. I think it's about 75% likely this was a right wing militia member.
Those who are used as 'foot soldiers' in the very militant right wing militias are usually veterans which makes it highly likely to be a veteran if this is right wing terrorism.

The next most likely possibility is a disaffected domestic Muslim. There is a slight chance that such a profile would be a veteran.

Given that this is highly likely to be a domestic attack, the chances are very good it was a veteran. I'd give it a better than 50% chance.

My bet is, it's a right wing nutball who is also a veteran and a militia member.

US citizen from Pakistan to appear in court on charges of parking car bomb in Times Square

NEW YORK (AP) — A Pakistan-born U.S. citizen accused of driving a bomb-laden SUV into Times Square and parking it on a street lined with restaurants and Broadway theaters was to appear in court Tuesday to face charges that he tried to set off a massive fireball and kill Americans, federal authorities said.

If he had landed in Dubai, we'd never have found him.

I sense the disappointment here that the bomber wasn't a tea bagger, as measured by the relative silence about this issue that didn't exist 24 hours ago.

and with that, Adbot tries to peddle Tradewinds Resorts.  After which, crickets.

The thread with 84+ posts over there consists mainly of DUmmies squabbling "Post a link!"  "No, You post your link!"  "Google it!"  "Why won't you post your link?"  "Without a link, there is no evidence!"  etc.  Not entertaining, so don't waste a lot of time.

Whenever something goofy happens - bomb in Times Square, mass shootings at a US military base, etc - there seem to be two kinds of reactions:

a) Some people go, "Hmm. I wonder if this involves some guy with a name like Mohammed who has emails from Yemen."

b) Other people go, "Don't worry, there's no connection to terrorism, and anyway, even if there is, it's all very amateurish, and besides he's most likely an isolated extremist or lone wolf."

Unfortunately, everyone in category (b) seems to work for the government.

Or posts at the DUmp.

Times Square Bombing: 100% Homegrown American?
Filed by: Sara Whitman
May 3, 2010 8:00 PM
Print

An attempt at a car bombing was made Saturday night, in Times Square. Quickly, there have already been claims whispered of the Taliban sneaking about in our midst by the New York Times:

"No motive had been determined in the attempted bombing, and federal and local officials said there was no evidence to support a claim of responsibility issued Sunday by a Pakistani Taliban group that has a reputation for making far-fetched attempts to take credit for attacks."

A few paragraphs later, again a hint of outside terrorists:

"Investigators were reviewing similarities between the incident in Times Square and coordinated attacks in the summer of 2007 at a Glasgow airport and a London neighborhood of nightclubs and theaters. Both attacks involved cars containing propane and gasoline that did not explode. Those attacks, the authorities believed, had their roots in Iraq."

Um, call me crazy, but didn't Tim McVeigh use a car bomb in Oklahoma City? Wasn't that domestic terrorism? Crazy right wing nut cases who wanted to take over the government?

Homegrown? Nothing to do with Iraq or Iran or Pakistan?

Am I the only one who is making this very direct connection? Why does it feel like the media is pumping up a frenzy of hate against Middle Easterners?

The Teabaggers carry guns to their demonstrations. Guns. I have to say, I've been to many a demonstration in my time but never saw anyone- aside from the police- with a gun. The rhetoric has become increasingly more and more violent- people openly calling for the death of the President on facebook, for instance.

I'd bet having to take my pants off through airport security (god knows we are headed there anyway), that this is a 100% American effort.

We need to start looking at ourselves, at our media, and at the messages rained on us a little more closely. Who buys all those guns in this country? You know, the semi-automatics, machine guns- the stuff that no one in the world hunts deer or quail with.

There are a lot of angry, white people out there. White. Not black, not latino, but white people who are feeling their power erode away.

I sincerely hope the police, FBI and Homeland security are a lot smarter than the media. I also hope it was one warped lunatic who failed.

But something tells me, it's not.

So let's see. The MSM, which went full-bore with "white guy did it," was really trying to drum up anti-mideastern sentiment? (Other than anti-Israeli sentiment, that is, which is an MSM staple). And guns--which were being legally carried in the states in question by Tea Party people----  = bombs. And--oh my, guns, can't have people exercising THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.

And nobody else but Tim McVeigh has EVER used a car bomb. Naw. Moslem terrorists never use car bombs.

And we all know the left NEVER called for GW Bush's death. Never burned the man in effigy. Naw, that never happened.

I think I'll just grant Sara's wish here and call her crazy.

And several experts on bomb-building and Taliban psychology/intelligence:

Quote
I agree with everything you said. Let's also acknowledge that this was strictly amateur hour. You see, there were at least two fatal flaws with this construct that has been referred to as a "bomb" by just about everybody and that's just in the sketchy descriptions that I've read.

First, containers or bottles like propane tanks Can't. Blow. Up. They are designed to exclude oxygen and despite what happens in the movies, no oxygen = no combustion. The containers can be punctured and their contents ignited upon contact with oxygen in the atmosphere, they can be heated to a point when the valve fails and releases the contents but neither failure is exactly explosive in nature. One can WELD on a bottle and as long as you don't puncture the vessel, it won't explode. I know because of science and experience. I've done it. Plus, if anybody gets the bright idea to force oxygen into a propane tank so that it will be combustible, then there will be one less would be terrorist that we have to worry about. It isn't a secret what happens when you introduce liquid oxygen into an environment of petroleum distillates.
Second, not all "fertilizer" is ammonium nitrate. I can buy a ton of Miracle Grow and not have anything remotely explosive. The fireworks and gasoline may have made a merry fire but nobody was ever in any real danger so while the intent was there, the knowledge was lacking.
It's possible to ignore science in fiction but it isn't possible to do so in reality and still achieve a desired result. This tendency to ignore science just screams Beck fan teabagger to me. I could be wrong of course but I don't think that I am.

Oh, well, maybe you should do some re-think there old man.

Quote
Pleeeese!!!
Since when would any Taliban extemist use M-80's as an addition to a bomb?

The only people I know who know anything about M-80's are red blooded American or Canadian teenagers who like to blow up water closets in the gym bathroom, or kneejerk, American wing nuts who attend Tea Party conventions and demonstrations. Since I don't believe that it was any teenageer whopurchased the vehicle for cash, I can only think it is the latter animal who is trying to blow people up to make some kind of statement. I think the clincher for me though was when they reported that there was a gun locker in the car that was full of fertilizer. But the kind that does not blow up. Only someone who goes around asking for proof of Obama's birth certificate and calling people facists and nazi's is stupid enough to travel around NYC with a locker full of non-exploding shit. Even the Taliban aren't that dumb.

No, but YOU are!

And now the post-discovery-of-their-complete-and-abject-stupidity spin:

Quote
More data needed.

I'm a sometime military analyst, and I'd give none of the current conjectures anything better than a "well, could be, I 'spose".

It does sound like amateur-hour Al Qaeda. I see RWNJ (Right Wing Nut Jobs) targeting Federal buildings, synagogues, mosques etc but not crowded city streets. The RWNJs may blow up kindergartens, but if so they'd be Gummint ones.

Exactly which kind of enemy we face doesn't matter. Just that they're the enemy, no matter which flag the plead allegiance too.

So, this "sometime military analyst" doesn't think it's important which enemy we address, just that we hit all enemies, any enemy. For example, in WW II, we could just as easily have gone to war against England rather than Germany, since England was once an enemy of ours.

This military analysis business is easy!  :lmao:

Color me a conspiracy theorist, but isn't this a wee bit convenient? Al Queda is responsible again? They were highly successful in Iraq, Afghanistan, and on 9/11. The first bomb attempt at the World Trade Center wasn't enough to bring the building down, but caused quite a bit of damage.

So they chose an idiot this time who'd leave behind all sorts of evidence, rig up a bomb incorrectly using MacGyver-like bits of flotsam and jetsom, and then promptly jumps a plane for Pakistan?

No way. I smell a chance to pump the Afghanistan war against Al Queda and their new base of power in Pakistan.

And here come the 9/11 "truthers." Oy vey.

Yes, I will color you a conspiracy theorist. What would you suggest, maybe a nice mauve? Also, Is there a color for brain damaged?

27. Difference? Are you implying Bushco would not have arrested this guy?
If you follow the court cases, you will have noticed that Holder's D of J takes the same positions taken by the AG's under Bush--All the torture cases, habeas cases and FOIA cases--exact same legal positions, or worse. For example, Holder's D of J in a brief compared homosexuality with incest, pedophilia and bestiality. I don't think even Bushco ever went that far about homosexuality publicly and in the name of the United States.

Both the tea party and other groups have a hatred of the American Government and a desire to see it destroyed. I can definitely see why some people would suspect that they may be involved. The only mistake in that theory was that this guy wasn't attacking a government building like McVeigh - the hero of the Tea Party - did.

Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Ward Churchill, Father Pfleger, Van Jones

Any of these names ring a bell?

The plot was foiled by a vendor in Time's Square. Not OBama, not DHS, not the FBI, CIA, or the NYC Po-po.

Just a common, work-a-day guy who noticed something amiss.

Remember when the chimp foiled all those terrorist plots?

Like the one in Florida, where agents convinced a bunch of kids to be "terrorists". They didn't even know what the **** was going on, but they liked the idea of getting shiny new boots. The chimp took big time credit for that. What a hero!

Does anybody have the slightest clue what this idiot is talking about?

now sure it's POSSIBLE that a citizen of pakistani descent, who actually just returned from pakistan and set a bomb in times square is a teabagger, but not exactly likely.

You are not long for that website.

And you remove the governor, who is guilty of attacking her own people.
No, those aren't her people because they reside illegally.

Still, you raise a good point. It makes you wonder about the 20 million Mexicans expelled by their own government and forced north because they have turned their own soverign nation into a festering shthole not fit for human habitation except for those few resort areas carved out for the rich and their spring-breaking spoiled brats.

BTW - To all the DUmmies applauding Obama's alphabet soup:

Quote
Shahzad, who had been the subject of a huge manhunt, almost made it out of the country on a Emirates flight to Dubai, with a planned connection onward to Pakistan, according to the officials.

"He appeared real close to getting away," one federal official said. "The plane was buttoned up. Backed away from the jetway."

Authorities said that despite the manhunt, his passport had not been flagged and he was able to buy a ticket with cash and clear airport security.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, while refusing to criticize any agency Tuesday morning, said Shahzad was "clearly on the plane and shouldn't have been."

At a Tuesday morning press conference, President Obama said the attempted bombing "is another sobering reminder of the times in which we live." Of attackers, he said, "They will stop at nothing to try and interrupt our life."

FBI agents discovered Shahzad's car parked in a short-term lot at JFK airport Monday evening and searched for his name on airline passenger manifests.

22. This guy likely shares a deep hatred of the American government with the Tea Party!
Both the tea party and other groups have a hatred of the American Government and a desire to see it destroyed. I can definitely see why some people would suspect that they may be involved. The only mistake in that theory was that this guy wasn't attacking a government building like McVeigh - the hero of the Tea Party - did.

TEA Party members don't hate the government, they just believe that it has gotten too big and has too much power.  DUmmies hated/hate the government every time their side isn't in control.

Bomb suspect lost Conn. home to foreclosure
 Source: MSNBC.com

The suspect in the Times Square bombing attempt defaulted on a $200,000 mortgage on his Connecticut home and the Shelton property is now in foreclosure, according to court records.

Chase Home Finance LLC sued Shahzad, 30, in September to force the foreclosure. The case is pending in Milford Superior Court.

In Shelton, former neighbor Brenda Thurman told the New York Times that Shahzad and his wife, Huma Mian, spoke limited English and kept mostly to themselves. The couple had two young children, a girl and a boy, she said.

Thurman told the newspaper that the couple had lived at the house at 119 Long Hill Avenue for about three years before moving out last year.

This may have led to his returning to Pakistan. They've said his wife is there.

I've seen a few articles that say Faisal Shahzad was a registered Democrat in Connecticut and quite possibly a donor to Obama's campaign. Here's a LINK (http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=6169) to one of the articles. If this clown was also a DUmpmonkey, that would be icing on the cake! :evillaugh:

Right now, I'm taking these reports with a grain of salt. If they do pan out to be true, there will be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth on Skin's island (not to mention the multitude of heads a'splodin)

Heh, we'd hit the tri-fecta! Why can't I be this lucky with the ponies?

An Islamic terrorist named Faisal Shahzad is the Time Square bomber according to media reports. He is Muslim of Pakistani heritage with dual citizenship in the United States, a registered Democrat in the state of Connecticut who may be an Obama donor. He was recently naturalized as a U.S. citizen under the Obama administration’s lenient open door policy.

Let's see if this makes the networks.

I imagine it will get the same coverage regarding the political leaning as the Texas kamikaze pilot and the Georgia college professor

For fleeing and eluding charges to be filed you have to flee. The feds will allow your plane to load and prepare to go. Then when they back away from the gate they'll have it pulled back in to arrest you.
Why? Because wheels have to roll before you've committed yourself to the trip. Up until that point you can change your mind. Once you're committed then, and only then will they take you down.
