This oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico will mark an epic moment in human history.
Edited on Sat May-01-10 04:19 PM by Subdivisions
If that hole is not sealed soon or if what's left of the well-head goes, this event could destroy vast expanses of ocean and will change the direction of the human race. If this is not checked, we could be looking at the greatest man-made disaster of all time

1. Well many of us described Bushco as the
ultimate cluster**** so this should come as no surprise. They allowed BP to get away with this crap.
No one is listening to your political nonsense.

3. This oil spill will make all the hurricanes that have hit the gulf coast look like nothing.
I live in Houston and go the Galveston, we are spared for now.
I am going to take the next week off and travel along the gulf coast in Texas and take pictures and videos.
That may be the only chance I have to do this now.
I am beyound sad, very angry.
Maybe it took this happening to wake up a lot of people to the real price of oil.
Go nuclear like we should have done 20-30 years ago if it wasn`t for you leftist pieces od shit.

18. I have been thinking about that, that is why I am going on my trip.
I have two weeks of vacation coming, now seems a good time to use it.
Mother Earth took a big hit on this one.
Things are never going to be the same again.
I am hoping other countries are coming to our aid, this is beyound what the USA can handle alone.
Good lick waiting on your socialist eurotwits for that.
Remember the screed of the left is that THEY are entitled, nothing is given.

26. I believe
that Mother Nature has just had it with man-made abuse.
The Native Americans have such great respect for Mother Nature. I grew up during the time of LBJ's 'Great Society.' Lady Bird had a big beautification program....NO LITTERING. Highways were planted with perennials. Mother Nature was admired and cared for.
Today, I get so damn angry....there's gum everywhere on the ground. I constantly see people throwing cigarettes and trash out of their car windows. Landscapers (who I don't believe now a damn thing about horticulture) keep adding mulch around trees until it's 3 feet high. Dead branches just hang there until the whole tree is dead and then someone cuts it down.
is wrong with people today? Too busy playing video games or watching pron? Just ignorant ****ing people everywhere. And NO ONE CARES! I mentioned to my apartment manager that so much shrubbery was dead and I was told to do it myself. So I did! Then when they saw me up on a 2-step ladder reaching for dead tree limbs, I guess I shamed the young dude into doing something. Actually they thought I would fall and sue.
Now, I'm 'a trouble-maker!!!!' All because I wanted to save their damn trees and shrubs. I can't stand looking at dying plants.
The next day someone had placed a dead bird at my front window.....! I just want to be a hermit....and live with animals. People suck! is over....for now.

Much the same was said about the Exxon Valdez, but little evidence of that massive spill remains. The earth is remarkably adept at cleansing itself.

I'll go you one better.
Remember Carl Sagan and others oh-noes-ing about how Saddam's oil well fires from 1991 would be the equivalent of a nuclear winter and they would burn for decades?

I think there is an underground fire burning in Pennsylvania or someplace that is an old coal mine.

There are underground fires I am told that have been burning for decades in "mucklands"...black and soft soil that is 100% decaying organic matter.
Some of the best vegetable growing land in the nation.

You are correct--been burning for over 50 years.

I spit Coke through my nose on this one. I am mostly Indian....I know. Most Indians were nomads who stripped the earth and moved on. They were "at one with earth" alright. At one and then the other.
How did Indians get this weird reputation for being some "spiritual supreme"? It's based on NOTHING!

Who knows ? nearly everything the American natives did are entirely contrary to liberal belief. Not all tribes contained all these traits, however when one considers the natives as a whole ;
They were warriors.
They held slaves.
They committed ritual sacrifice.
They were cannibals.
They were sexist.
They believed in a huge assortment of deities.

In a way, I can see why the DUmbasses are enraptured by the Indians, since in thousands of years they never advanced beyond being ignorant savages. But even though they have that in common, you'd think democrats would hate them because they didn't promote abortion.

That's the point, folks. White folk seem to be the only folk making a difference.

I assume by scooping up the spilled oil and refining it on the spot. Don't want to add to the hidden cost of oil just to take some pics, do ya dummie?
And how many of them are going to be able to use this as an excuse to get out of work/school?

Remember Ixtoc 1? If today's blow out is the end of mankind then we are all just ghosts because that well was 10 times worse. Took many months to cap. :overreaction:
-
It seems like this is being treated as no big deal by many here. No...it ain't the end of the world and it will be cleaned up but it is one hell of a disaster over the near term (and I mean a number of years...not months).
Ixtoc I was TWO to FIVE times as bad as the current 210,000 gallons per day estimated for this blowout so it will take approximately TWO months for the current situation to equal the Exxon Valdez spill and two YEARS to equal the Ixtoc spill.
Now consider this...the Ixtoc rig was in 164ft. of water and could be reached by divers. This is a MILE down.
It took TEN months to cap the Ixtoc well even though access was relatively easy. In ten months we will have the equivilent of 5 Exxon Valdez spills off the coast of our most prodigious shrimping and fishing grounds and ruining Florida beaches and perhaps even impacting east coast beaches due to the currents.
No need to be DUmmies about this...but this is one of th worst environmental disasters we've ever had and the damage to both the coast and the people who make their livelihood there will be felt for years to come. It will also impact energy policy negatively.
BP needs to be held fully accountable financially for this...but the focus should be on getting the well capped off ASAP and then finding out what went wrong and what will prevent this from happening again.
-
I don't know if its BP's fault yet.

I don't think anyone is being "DUmmies" about this. Hey, when natural oil happens to the surface, for whatever reason leftists may need it to, it isn't a disaster. We just clean around it and let the earth do the rest. This is not the end of the world....but I do believe with all my heart and soul it was sabotage. In fact, I will denounce God, Jesus, my dead mother, and all my children if this turns out to be a random event.
-
I don't know if it was sabotage, but I think we may learn that it was.
I also think we'll be able to stop it before they say.
-

There are some on the left that want the government to take control of the situation. That would be the biggest mistake they could do, except for one thing. The longer this goes on, and the worse the impact on the environment, the better it is for those wanting more regulation.

People who say crap like this make me want to hit things. Good gosh. If your opinion of humans is so low, then hurry up and off yourself so we don't have to keep hearing your incessant whining about it. Oh, but before you do, please go visit a cave where a huge bat colony lives and let me know if it makes you reconsider the whole "nature creates very little waste" bit.

I went to the coast and got a jar full of oil. Do I have to pay BP for it?
Actually, I believe all of the earths resources belong to all the inhabitants of the planet.
It's about time corporations like BP stop making obscene profits and share the money from resources with people. It's time to force our government to represent us for a change. They can start by forcing corporations like BP, and every other corporation that extracts natural resources from the ground, to share their wealth with the people who are true owners of the land.
And for starters, you can share the cost to clean up this spill and cover the lawsuits.
I'm sure you've volunteered to stick around and help, right? Even a DUmmy can wash a duck.

Average annual contribution to oil in the ocean (1990-1999) from major sources of petroleum in kilotonnes.

Mods, please feel free to post this in the Political Ammunition thread as well. That's right, camaraderie, that slow drip from your engine is 10 times WORSE for the environment than all the tanker groundings, wellhead blowouts, and seaborne pipeline leaks COMBINED.
