Governor Brewer Grilled At Latino Event
http://www.kpho.com/news/23240567/detail.html
PHOENIX -- Gov. Jan Brewer could not have appeared before a more determined crowd Thursday night, in its opposition to the new immigration enforcement bill.
“Governor, we ask, no we respectfully demand that you veto senate bill 1070,†said Erica Gonzalez-Melendez from the podium. She is the Chairwoman of the Board for Chicanos Por La Causa, a very powerful Latino community organization.
Before the governor could even get into the hall for the CPLC anniversary dinner, she faced a gauntlet of protesters outside the Sheraton in downtown Phoenix.
But the ballroom may have offered even less comfort.
“What sits before you on your desk is the most hateful legislation directed at Latinos in the recent history of our state. Governor, tonight we want to remind you that we vote too,†said Gonzalez-Melendez.
To her credit, Brewer followed those pointed words with her prepared speech, but offered little to tip her hand.
“While I’m not prepared to announce a decision on Senate Bill 1070 this evening, I can tell you what I decide will be based on doing what’s right for Arizona,†said Brewer.
As she walked out, the governor refused to answer questions, but she could hear the crowd inside still chanting, “Veto, Veto!â€

If she does not veto it, it becomes law tomorrow I think.
-
The talking heads on MSNBC think she will sign the bill.
-
KTAR said she would sign it ...
we'll see

When are these assholes going to stop playing the "all Latinos" card? First off, Latino isn't even a RACE. Second, it's not aimed against one "race" or ethnicity specifically. It's aimed against ILLEGAL immigrants.
WTF is so difficult to understand about that?
-
Obama came out condemning it. Says it should be done through overhaul of the Federal System. Haven't these pricks had enough time to do something with the Federal System? And now, Schumer, Dodd and these other fools, with Americans showing how fed up they are with Illegals, want to work on legislation to give them a free pass. What useless crap these people are, and the sheep will re-elect them.
-
She signed it. Saw it online webcast.
-
*sigh of relief*
Thank Goodness.
That is great! Can someone change the headline?
-
Thank GOD someone in Arizona has a spine.
-
Obama came out condemning it.
Yep. Obama vs Detroit automakers, Obama vs banks, Obama vs Wall Street, Obama vs Insurance Companies, Obama vs the Supreme Court, Obama vs more than half the country, Obama vs Arizona, Obama vs all our allies, Obama vs....is there anyone or anything he hasn't declared an enemy du jour?

They've been "overhauling" the federal system for 45 years. In that time we've gone from roughly 1 million illegals to over 20 million.
Enough.
-
Happy Cinco De Mayo, motherf***ers!!!! Bwahahahaha!!!!
-
Today I am especially proud and happy to be a resident of Arizona. Living in Sierra Vista, unable to hike in the Huachucas due to illegals traipsing through them, not to mention living about two and a half miles from a drug trafficking route, where the homeowners have been threatened with death if they call the Border Patrol, having articles in the local paper on a recurring basis about the volunteer cleanup crews to police all the illegals' junk, UGH, I am sick of them and really sick of the assholes in DC like Obama and Napolitano who want to blame US because of their failure of leadership.
:censored:
-
Hasta Lavista Baby!!!!!!
-
I know the government won't be serious about illegals until I see barbed wire, gun towers, and armed military on the southern border, with orders to shoot ANYTHING that tries to cross, including wildlife....

Everything when you've been indoctrinated otherwise.

I'm not so ready to blame Obama and Napolitano. The illegal alien situation goes further back than them. Prior to Reagan, it was bad, but when Reagan granted amnesty to some SIX MILLION illegal aliens, it established a bad precedent. Then, we have all of the employers that specifically target the illegal aliens as a primary group to hire because they can pay them less than real Americans. I remember telling a GOP solicitor that I would no longer support the GOP with my funds because Bush was also pretty lame on the illegal aliens situation. Because of many people like me, the GOP paid attention, but still didn't do a whole hell of lot about it.
-
I have lived in AZ on and off since I was stationed at Ft. Huachuca, going through the intel school, in 1979. Hubby was also AD, for 30 years, and we've been back several times. It never seemed so desperate and critical here until we moved back in 2003 during his last PCS. Napolitano was, IIRC, the governor here at the time and as for Bush, McCain, et.al, I of course assign blame to them as well; however, Obama's calling our new law irresponsible really :fuelfire:me off. This is a complicated problem in some ways, but very simple on one level: the federal government needs to quit screwing around with border security and do something besides pontificate, promise and puke out propaganda. I've had it with ALL of these bozos who don't live here, don't have to deal with the crap we put up with and who think we should just shut up and let AZ become Mexizona.
Totally agree with you that Regan should never have allowed illegals amnesty back in 1986; it has set a terrible precedent.
-
The MSM didn't even mention the mini-riot did they?

That is what pisses me off. We learned that amnesty didn't end the influx of illegals. If anything it increased the tide coming in. Any talk of amnesty or a "path to citizenship, should be shitcanned until the border is sealed up tight. Any illegal with any type of criminal conviction should have their ass shipped back across the border ASAP.

But-but, what about our economy.?
Fewer crimes will mean only home grown thieves will have the money to buy their IPODS, cell phones and computers. Fewer stolen cars and there will be less need to buy another.
Fewer kids in school will impact the teachers no longer needed.
Few will want to rent from a Slum Lord and the owners of these cold water apartments will not be able to pay their taxes and loose their income.
A big lessening of crime will affect our police departments, lawyers and court judges, our prisons will need less guards or any of the above.
This will be a big hit for the farmers that grow the ingredients to make Latino foods. Just imagine what will happen to the rice and corn industry with 20,000,000 less buyers for their product.
Sweat shops employing workers as young as 14 will stand empty, flip-flops that now cost $5.00 will with Union made cost $50.00.
Hospitals will have to operate with 3/4 less patients.
Now if Pot becomes legal, there goes the economy of Mexico and 5-6 other country's. WOW will they hate us.
Our Churches will loose their most devoted tithing family's, Soup kitchens will shut down and our homeless shelters will not get state or federal grants because they will not have a large demand.
State workers in Health and Human services will be cut to the bone.
Can we afford to loose 4,000,000 people by average a State.?
This has been fun being a devils advocate, :fuelfire:
I applaud AZ. Actually, I cannot wait to see how this turns out, I hope we can seal the border before it is too late.
-
Good to hear that
-
Governor Brewer has more "balls" than all the male republican congressmen combined....
If Zero hates it, then it's a good law....
-
Another big riot, I mean, protest is being planned. Sharpton calls for civil disobediance!
There is an estimated 460,000 illegals in Arizona.
I think Sheriff Joe needs a couple more tent cities.

During the Monday 12PM ET hour of live coverage on MSNBC, anchor Contessa Brewer described the "firestorm" over a newly passed immigration law in Arizona and fretted: "does this lead to a situation where neighbors are turning in neighbors or families turning against families?" Later in the segment, a headline on screen read: "Law Makes it a Crime to be Illegal Immigrant."
Brewer discussed the issue with Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and wondered: "Is this an effective way to deal with the problem?" In response, Sanchez declared: "to stop people and say, 'I think you look like an illegal immigrant' and then drag them off to jail is not the way to deal with this issue."

excerpt
When Arizona's new law was signed on Friday, Hispanics demonstrated outside the state capitol in Phoenix, fearful of what it would mean for them. "If a cop sees them and they look Mexican, he's going to stop me," a 18-year-old Hispanic told the Associated Press. "What if people are U.S. citizens? They're going to be asking them if they have papers because of the color of their skin." The young man claimed that he was that even though he was a U.S. citizen he risked being arrested and put in jail.
Other news stories discuss Hispanics believing that they will have to have to carry multiple IDs to avoid prison. "Even if you're legal, you're in fear that maybe your driver's license isn't going to be enough or if you're walking down the street and the police stop you," a 21-year-old University of Arizona college student told CNN. "It's a constant fear we're living in and even legal citizens are afraid to go out."
But it is a dangerous game stirring up fears of people being hunted down and put in jail because of their race or nationality. The law specifically bans picking up someone just because they are Hispanic or even because the person was originally from Mexico or any other country you can read a copy of the law right here. Anyone arrested for a crime must have their immigration status determined before they are released. Thus, it is not just Hispanics who will be required to provide evidence of citizenship, but so will all whites, blacks and Asians. If the eligibility for public services depends on citizenship, again, everyone who applies, regardless of race, will have to provide an ID. In other circumstances, law enforcement officials must have reasonable suspicion, not based simply on the person's race or origin, that the individual is an illegal alien before they can ask to check someone's ID.

Sharpton calls for civil disobediance!
Sharpton needs to be arrested and thrown in jail along with his illegal buddies. There aren't going to be any riots here, not with Sheriff Joe around.Besides the illegals here know that the general population is armed to the teeth. This isn't LA or DC.
-
Nah...let Sharpton call for a big sit in. Get them all in one place and surround them!

The law says:
"A PERSON IS PRESUMED TO NOT BE AN ALIEN WHO IS
35 UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES IF THE PERSON PROVIDES TO THE LAW
36 ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OR AGENCY ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
37 1. A VALID ARIZONA DRIVER LICENSE.
38 2. A VALID ARIZONA NONOPERATING IDENTIFICATION LICENSE.
39 3. A VALID TRIBAL ENROLLMENT CARD OR OTHER FORM OF TRIBAL
40 IDENTIFICATION.
41 4. IF THE ENTITY REQUIRES PROOF OF LEGAL PRESENCE IN THE UNITED STATES
42 BEFORE ISSUANCE, ANY VALID UNITED STATES FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENT
43 ISSUED IDENTIFICATION.
Here is the whole law http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070h.pdf
How UNFAIR that you might be inconvenienced for 10 seconds in the course of a stop made for other reasons. Of course LEGAL aliens are already required to have their green card 24x7 :banghead:
-
If they are legal and not breaking any laws, they have nothing to worry about. It is common sense.
-
"Yes officer here is my driver license, registration and proof of insurance."
Proof that I am not an illegal alien.
-
I saw one of the bastards on TV today saying, "this law is similar to what happened in Nazi Germany! (Nuremberg Laws)". I fail to see a correlation between a law being enacted upon people already in this country illegally and ones that were already full citizens of Germany during their passage.
-
Well if they are legal then why worry just keep your shit in order then you don't have to worry

There is no correlation except in the minds of illegal alien supporters. The problem is that most of the people demonstrating and raising hell are not here illegally. Most illegals keep a low profile and pretty much mind their own business, except for the few who break our laws, get drunk and shoot at the lights that is. Arrest them all and deport them as far as I am concerned. They can start in the school system, the schools are lousy with illegals.
-
Are any Citizens or "legal" Aliens counter protesting these morons in AZ?
-

I guess it's not fair to require the same thing from people who are actually breaking the law. ::) ::) ::)

If not, ICE had better make good use of such a "target rich environment"....
-
If they are legal and not breaking any laws, they have nothing to worry about. It is common sense.
I understand where you're coming from on this but I've never been able to accept this line of reasoning.
One could just as easily claim the 4th amendment ugarantees against the police entering your home to look for illegal drugs is just as dispensible so long as you do not have illegal drugs in your home.
Now, legal aliens are here by permission and a requirement of that permission is that they maintain on their persons such documents as may prove they retain that permission. It's akin to you having permission to dine in my home so long as you do not drink my last beer (not that I ever want to be found in the position of having a last beer).
But what about US citizens?
Well, when they are stopped for a traffic violation--a thing requiring probable cause--the law has a right to inspect for proper licensing but apart from the probable cause of an underlying offense this law properly protects the rights of me, the US citizen, who may be mistaken for a foreign rabbit...or worse: a ptarmigan.
I think the closest to thing to an immigration dragnet would be a DUI checkpoint.
It would be nice to see the law expanded to include enrollment in public services such as financial assistance and schools.
-
"Yes officer here is my driver license, registration and proof of insurance."
Proof that I am not an illegal alien.
Actually having a drivers license does not prove you are legal. It should prove that you were once legal (in order to get the DL) but without checking someone's green card you really don't know.
I know GA requires people from another country to get a GA DL after 30 or 60 days.
-
But it is good, at best 5 years. The only "universal" Id is a passport. Interestingly expired ones are just as good.
Check the I9 list.
-
Mexico deports more people than we do.
Its a felony there to be an illegal.
Its also illegal for foreigners to engage in political rallies and protests and such.
We could use that law here.
-
Napolitano "Being in the U.S. Illegally is Not a Crime"

The State of Arizona disagrees. Tough titty.
-
The word "illegal" does mean something right?
You can't have a country without a border right?
Mexico is one of the toughest countries on illegal aliens, correct?
Does anyone else smell the hypocrisy??
We should go to Mexico and protest but that would be a felony down there.
-
Are any Citizens or "legal" Aliens counter protesting these morons in AZ?
I haven't heard of any.The "protesters" will wear themselves out soon enough unless Al "race bait" Sharpton shows up. I'm sure he will stir shit up given half a chance. I would love to see him get arrested by sheriff Joe's boys, that would make my day.
-
And all 6 DUmmies watching at the time had no clue there was a glaring problem with such a statement.

heh :evillaugh:
Arizona Governor Gets Poll Bump Post Immigration Law
Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state shows that 56% now approve of the way Brewer is performing her role as governor. Two weeks ago, just 40% offered their approval.

Someone should dump Al in a bucket of refried beans and send his ass packing to Mexico where he can protest the hell out of their policies for all of an hour when their cops show up and take him in.
