Title: Dear Leader comes to town
Post by: USA4ME on April 23, 2010, 08:57:38 AM
Dear Leader is flying into Asheville today a little after 1:00pm.  From a parking lot on the side of a mountain near my home I can see the airport from about 3 miles away and can witness final approach from either way the planes arrive to land on the one runway at the regional airport.  Being an aviation enthusiaist, I'm probably going to go down to the parking lot (about a 1 mile drive) and watch the plane land from that vantage point because it's a 747 and we never get 747's landing here, and it'd be cool to see Air Force One.  Other than that, I wouldn't cross the street to see the idiot.  A local TV station ran a poll asking if the residents here wanted to see Dear Leader and only 14% said yes.  I think it was 82% that said no (I know it was over 80%).

Oh well, his kids are on spring break and they're staying at the five star Grove Park Inn through the weekend and vacationing in the area.  It supposed to be overcast and rain the next 5 days.  :-)

Seeing Air Force One would be cool though.  I saw a special on it, the other week, on Discovery or Nat Geo.  Pretty cool stuff there.

It won't matter, Dear Leader will just bus in all the "supporters" he needs for the photo op.

I read somewhere that his "rally" at NASA had no NASA workers in attendance.

Wonder why.

The schools in my town are on break this week.  They don't let out until mid-June for summer break.

Well, it wasn't the 747.  I wondered about that because the runway in Asheville is only 8000 ft long.  Looked like a The Boeing Business Jet (BBJ-3) but I was too far away to make it out.

I've seen it a few times.

I want to see the inside of it.

We stayed at Grove Park Inn in one of their cheapest rooms, for two nights several years ago.

It will be interesting to see what activities they do while there. M wanted to play golf, and I wanted to go to the spa....until we saw the costs.  :o

The only meal we ate there was Sunday brunch....it was a semi-reasonable price.

With their entourage and all the needed rooms.....it will cost a f'n fortune!!!!! And he tells people to not spend their money going to Las Vegas. Hah! Las Vegas is cheaper.

I want to see the inside of it.

Few are privy to that.  I'd love to see the interior as well....but don't think it will every happen for us common folks.

Yeah, a "normal" room is somewhere around $300-400 a night.  He's probably in the rooms that are the $2000-3000+ range.  The golf course stinks compared to others in the area, but my wife and I have been to the spa 3 times together.  I think she's been another 3 or 4 times with some of her girlfriends.  The food there is good, but pricey.  The only meal I really like ther is the buffet breakfast in the Blue Ridge Restaurant, which I highly recommend.  Ususally if you stay there they will comp you at least one breakfast.

It's been 5 or 6 years since we were there, and the room was about $175, because we stayed for two nights....it was some deal they had. It was the breakfast buffet that we had, and it wasn't comped....guess we either didn't stay long enough, or we didn't stay in a higher priced room. The breakfast was great though, as were the martinis in the lobby bar, which is a great people watching place.

The bed, though, was fabulous!!! There was a flyer in the room on the mattress and bedding if one wanted to purchase it.... mucho thousands.... :bawl:

Apparently this vacation was no more than a photo op for prezBo.  He couldn't very well take one of the more luxurious vacations they have become accustomed to since his election, when he has spent so much time denigrating the wealthy of WallStreet.

Google The Grove Park Inn in Asheville NC....it's definitely not the Holiday Inn Express...
