I've got spotted owl and komodo dragon steaks marinating in the fridge, used tires piling up for the bonfire, and A/C mounted to counter the heater just to see which one wins.
What plans have ya'll made for "Erf Day"?
-
Thawing out the manatee steaks, gonna toss em on the charcoal grill in the evening but I have a busy day. I have a couple of old car batteries and some half empty paint cans that I need to toss in the culvert. (Last year I tossed em out of my car, on the highway, and ended up getting my car messed up.)
-
I plan on building a bonfire with 100+ tires soaked in gasoline. Also, I've got 1000-odd fluroscent light bulbs to have target practice with--lead bullets only!
-
With my meager resources, I figured I would pick up a new arc welder I need and release some flux and ozone into the atmosphere.

Can I get an "Erf Day Credit" if my husband did some welding this weekend on his truck?
-
Dang, I didn't win the lotto on Saturday but I was planning to turn the Cul de Sac into a winter wonderland. lol. /s

Whoa, thanks for that reminder heads up. Got to go get some DayGlo spray paint and get taggin' 420 on the underpasses. :fuelfire:

Make sure that you have holes in the batteries' cells first. The acid leaches out of them a lot better that way.

Good call. I was going to take the used oil reservoirs, because they are filled up. (Two of em.) But, I don't want them messing up my car, and I don't have a truck. So, I will just tug them out to the street and pour em down in the sewer. I can't do that with the paint or the batteries, because they don't fit in the sewer opening, and I don't feel like prying open the manhole cover. So the "crick" is going to get it. I am sure the coyotes will be pretty happy. :-)

Only if he uselessly burns a few more rods and sets up some "landing lights", say, 1000 watts each, for the guys coming into your local airport.

I got Arkansas Ivory billed woodpecker cut into strips, flicked a smoke out the window today and now have a fire burning. I'm gonna open the airlock doors in one lab and see if the 2000sqft area can hold 68°F ±0.5°F

I remember when I was growing up, my father used to change the oil in my mother's car, and his car, religiously. Most of the time, we (though usually, he made me do it) pour it into the storm sewer drain that adjoined his property. (Then, he decided that it would make a good creosote substitute for the wooden fences.)

My G-dad just saved the oil in Coffee Cans. I don't know what he did with em. Everything that wasn't being used went into a coffee can. That is all I know.

You too, huh? "Here, take this down to the fence line and pour it in the storm drain."

Between the tiger tartare and polar bear steaks, I'm all set food wise. Cooking on a charcoal grill of course. Going to turn the AC down to 40 and buy a space heater or 20 and turn them up to 90. Going to open the fridge and freezer and leave them open. Turn on the stove and oven (gas, natch) and leave them on. Start the mower and leave it running all day. Turn on every light in the house, and of course, the TV will be on. My car has a flat that I'm too poor to replace at the moment, so I guess I can burn the tire.
I'm sure I can think of other things.

Use diesel fuel as the accelerant. Makes a lot of smoke.
-
Congratulations for all the great ideas, and welcome to "Erf Day" minus 1!
I'm thinking I might "liberate" a few spent nuclear fuel rods and drag them home behind the car, kind of a "stress/friction test" to see how well they hold up driving down I-95, especially through all the road construction zones.
That should be a hoot.

Oh. Good idea. I was going to use whale oil.

You know how they got rid of all that waste stuff at Maine Yankee? Molded it into ceramic lobsters an sold it for the tourists to take home. :cheersmate:

Make sure to toss some cigarette butts out the window while you are driving. Takes 20 years to decompose, or something like that.

Once the flames are going, I suppose that the whale oil could be added. If you really want to maximize your carbon footprint, add kerosene and gasoline.

Not just gasoline alone. Throw a bunch of styrofoam into a gas tank and stir it up till it's a nice flammable jelly. Homemade napalm! Increase your carbon footprint explosively!
-
I was thinking of renting a Hummer and driving around to all the parking lots that have the 3 minute Idle warnings posted and sitting there for at least half an hour each with the engine running WHILE tossing cig butts out the window followed by empty styrofoam coffee cups AND plastic shopping bags! Should be a fun day!! :-)

Sounds like something you could spread on railroad ties! :fuelfire:

I love the smell of creosote in the morning! It smells like... goreball warming.

Yes, in the PRNJ most stores have warnings posted that you cannot sit in your car in the parking lot with your engine running for more than 3 minutes because you are then polluting/causing global warming, blah, blah, blah. Personally I've never seen it enforced but I imagine it could be depending on what DUmmie walked by -- I'm not even sure what the citation would be. It's just one of those signs that really bug me!

You have a weird state there in New Jersey. I still don't get the fact that you can't pump your own gas.
For my contribution to ERF day, I'm going to leave my car running during my entire 4-5 hour round of golf tomorrow afternoon.

Man, that is crazy. And you can't pump your own gas? Does that mean that 24 hour gas stations have attendants 24 hours?
Doesn't sound too cost efficient, but what do I know?

It's the same way in Oregon. I can't remember the reasons, other than to employ people to pump gas.

Believe it or not, that's one of the greatest things about living here -- I HATE pumping gas! 4 out of 5 people living here will tell you the same. People from PA come over frequently to fill up because 1.) someone will pump it for them and 2.) gas is cheaper here than in PA. It's also cheaper here than in DE or NY . . .
Of all the assorted taxes that have been raised over the years, the gas tax in NJ isn't one of them. It hasn't been raised since 1988.
So in honor of Erf Day 2010, pump a coupla gallons into this container, Mr. Gas Station Attendant and I will take it home and burn a nice pile of whatever toxic material I can get my hands on! :-)

that is CRAZY. Here in Texas I know of like THREE full serve places. I hunt them down when I need my tires checked. I can check my oil, fill my oil (with no funnel required) I can even change my oil, but I choose not to. I can check my tranny fluid, power steering fluid, and check and refill my windshield wiper fluid. I can even change my windshield wipers. But I cannot, for some wierd reason check my tire pressure or put air in my tires. I always end up getting more air out.
-
I don't think I've seen a full-service station (with exception of service for handicapped) since about 1980.

We have one or two around here, but they also have full garages for repairs attached. But they don't have convenience stores, just a couple of vending machines.
-
I got a great deal on some OOOOOLD air conditioning units. I was thinking of punching holes in their condenser coils and seeing how big a hole I can punch in the ozone layer.

I'm spelling out "I  the Earth" with styrofoam cups; then I'm setting them on fire so that extraterrestrials know how I feel about Earth Day!
