That time of the year for the creeps to come out and and it seems this has escalated from pulling over lone woman and purse snatching to a nightmare.

Good advice. Especially in the aol.com article.
I would only add something family members who are and/or were LEO. They all said that pull-overs are stressful for the officer. Next to domestic violence cases, pull-overs are dangerous for them.
They advised after pulling over to put your hands at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions of the steering wheel. Don't start digging for your driver's license and registration. The officer can't tell what you're going after or hiding. They agreed with the only crack you window enough to pass these items through and to hear. They recommend telling the officer where you need to look for the DL and registration, too. "My registration is in my glove box." or "My driver's license is in my billfold under the seat."
I've been pulled over twice (once for speeding and once for a tail light burned out), both times the officers mentioned my cautious technique. They weren't surprised that police officers suggested it. One thought it was funny the other appreciated it.

I was told exactly all of the above from an LEO buddy of mine. I have been pulled over a few times since then, and have been complemented on my behavior. Didn't get me out of any ticket, unfortunately.

I add in digging my DL out from behind my mil ID. Saved me on a couple tickets, couple others got written as less than it was (written for 84 when I was doing 99 on one).

The county next to ours is known for pulling over more people than any county so when they pulled me over for a burned out tag light I thought I was going to get a ticket instead was given a warning.
