Comes after concrete information that terrorists planning kidnapping. Following a concrete terror threat, the National Security Council's Counter-Terrorism Division on Tuesday called on all Israelis to leave the Sinai Peninsula immediately.
It came after what the division called "concrete information" that terrorists were planning to kidnap Israelis in the area.
The announcement called on families of those currently in the Sinai to contact their relatives, update them on the terror warning and urge them to return home.
It begins........

I am sure the President will strongly protest this move...
...as a Israeli attempt to start trouble.

Which "It" would that be?
Israelis are pretty scarce in the Sinai, but then so is everyone else. Other than possibly some scuba divers down around Ras Nasrani, Sharm al Sheikh, or Ras Mohamet, some trickle of tourists visiting St. Catherine's monastery, or a stray archaeological party or two, there can't be all that many of them. Not really a lot of point going to anything on the Med coast, it's basically the same as the Israeli Med coast except without the amenities and 'way too close to Gaza for any sane Israeli to want to hang out there.

There actually are several resort towns in the Sinai that cater to wealthy Israelis..........they are known for privacy and lack of tourist crowds....

We've stayed at Dahab, and its gorgeous......and inexpensive for a "five star" resort.......
Its isolation provides a open invitation to hostiles........you could hide a battalion of insurgents in the desert without difficulty......

Which "It" would that be?
I would venture a guess that the "it" is that in the wake of the obvious lack of support of the US toward Israel, and the fact that Israel has decided to (essentially) boycott Obama's nuclear deproliferation talks this week......they are "circling the wagons" so to speak, since it has become patiently obvious that they no longer have a strong ally in the US administration......
Actions have consequences, and America's weakness toward Israel translates into emboldening Israel's enemies......

Well, I certainly agree Obama seems to be Hell-bent on screwing the Israelis at every turn, which has to have some effect. In this particular corner of ugly desert, though, our support or diregard of them doesn't play much role.
The Sinai is within Egypt, situated behind the mother lode of crazed Palestinians in Gaza, who are always up to no good against both the Egyptians and the Israelis. Current diplomatic winds notwithstanding one way or the other, any active support of Israel in sector is totally precluded by the fact we have about a battalion and a half in the MFO peacekeeping force buffering Egypt and Israel and so are pretty constrained to acting with strict neutrality toward both of them in the area.

I suspect that they fear the threat will be coming from somewhere other than Egypt or Gaza.......

Israeli's may not be safe down there in those resort cities with the obvious, like you said, lack of support from the US

There wasn't much at Dahab when I was in the Sinai. As I recall Taba was in the Colombian battalion's sector, but the main resort hotel there was tied up in some probate dispute because the guy who built it caught his wife cheating on him and blew her away (An apparently hot-blooded Israeli couple). Sharm had some serious resort action going on even then, but let's just say the accommodations I was in a short distance up the coast would not quite add up to the four- or five-star level. Great diving, though, the coast from the tip to Eilat is probably some of the best snorkel and scuba reef diving territory in the world.
The Sinai itself is about as barren a piece of rock and dirt as I've ever seen, it makes Kuwait and Iraq look like the Everglades by comparison. It's easy to hide stuff from ground observation but it is damned difficult to conceal anything from the air or orbital observation, particularly if you're looking with FLIR. VERY tough to get around on the ground as well, the southern half is pretty vertical. Then of course there are the Bedouins, despised by the Egyptians and Israelis alike for their light fingers and smuggling ways, they are kind of off on their own program entirely but they see everything that comes and goes.

I suspect that the Israelis are worried that there will be another event like the hotel bombing in Sharm in 2005......although the JPost article specifically references "kidnapping", (which would be very easy to do, and disappear into the desert)......and you are correct, they have some serious resorts there.
We were also saddened by what potential Gaza could have, if the Pali's would stop shooting, and start building.......it could become the Monaco of the ME.......but alas, it is not to be.
I agree with you that Sinai is one of the most desolate places on earth.......but it has a kind of weird beauty to it (especially at night), and at least for me, wandering around there for a few days gave me a feel for the fact that the place is steeped in history........

The (United States Citizen) Jews are innocent here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAUKJzQ7ANc
Trust me, I am a devout Christian and follower of God AND, _KNOW_ that the Israeli Jews are God's chosen people.
However, I also _KNOW_ that there are LIBERAL Jews in this nation that PREDOMINATELY vote for leftist liberal COCKSUCKERS like 0bama and his little Eichmann tools.
To those Jews that vote for 0bamaites I say - "FIRE UP THE OVENS!!!111"
BURN IN HELL YOU COCKSUCKERS!!!!
I trust in Jesus and in God that my wretched soul is saved. I am SORRY!
I can only hope your leftist souls are destined to swim in a lake of fire and brimstone!
Please forgive me God...

The Bible states that all the world will turn against the country and its people of Israeli. Obama seems to be forfilling this he has now stated that Iran has the right to nuclear power which everyone knows that they want to destroy the Jewish country and all the Jewish people. Obama is NOT Christian. :censored: He is clearly a Muslim! He is Evil! :evillaugh:The Bible says that God gave the people of Abraham a blessing that says that God will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. This goes for everyone that turns against Israel. The US. has Big Big problems coming to us. Obama will be the root cause of all our sorrows yet to come. God Help us all!
