from kristinn of Free Republic:
Allee Bautsch, chief campaign fundraiser for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and her boyfriend Joe Brown, were savagely beaten Friday night in New Orleans after leaving a Republican party fundraising dinner by a group of thugs who reportedly targeted the couple because they were wearing Sarah Palin pins.
Bautch's leg was broken and Brown incurred a broken jaw and nose as well as a concussion.
The Hayride reports that a source who visited Bautsch at the hospital the day after the attack says they were told the couple was attacked for wearing Palin buttons:
Two people at the Brennan’s event have now confirmed that the protest had largely broken up by the time it ended, but we also understand from someone who visited Allee Bautsch in the hospital Saturday morning that she and Brown were followed and attacked expressly because they had Palin pins on (she heard one of the attackers say “Let’s get them, they have Palin pins on†– so the attack WAS politically motivated as its victims understood it. It was not a mugging, it was not an argument gone wrong and it was not a bar fight.
The story of a Republican and her boyfriend being viciously attacked for wearing Palin buttons has yet to make national headlines, unlike say, unfounded rumors of nasty words being said by Tea Party protesters.

New Allegations of Political Motivation in Brutal Beating of Jindal Fundraiser
04/13/2010

(UPDATED to include full statement from Gov. Jindal's office.)
Friday evening outside of a $10,000-per-plate Republican fundraiser at Brennan’s Restaurant in New Orleans, a top fundraiser for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal -- along with her boyfriend -- were assaulted as they walked to their vehicle parked two blocks away.
New allegations of a political motivation for the brutal beating have surfaced on the local Louisiana blog The Hayride.
Two people at the Brennan’s event have now confirmed that the protest had largely broken up by the time it ended, but we also understand from someone who visited Allee Bautsch in the hospital Saturday morning that she and Brown were followed and attacked expressly because they had Palin pins on (she heard one of the attackers say “Let’s get them, they have Palin pins on†-- so the attack WAS politically motivated as its victims understood it. It was not a mugging, it was not an argument gone wrong and it was not a bar fight.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting Allee Bautsch suffered a broken leg and her boyfriend Joe Brown suffered a concussion, a broken jaw and a broken nose in the attack. Bautch required surgery over the weekend with an estimated 2-3 month recovery time.
Not exactly the type of injuries one suffers from a random robbery/mugging.
Read the rest at the link. Jindal made a comment saying that no one knows if it was a protestor yet. How unlike a Democrat who would have immediately accused the other side of the violent act. My bets are that it was an SEIU member.

I honestly hope someone from the other side didn't beat them. I'm really afraid of what is going to happen come this fall.

I would say those fears are not unfounded.

I'm looking forward to it.

Are you serious? You want someone innocent like this woman and her boyfriend beaten, no matter which side they are on?

I think that he is suggesting that if attacked, the attacker might get more than they bargained for........and for the record, I'm with him.......

Well sure, if he, you or someone like you who could protect themselves were attacked I could see it. But what I'm worried about it stuff like what happened to this girl and her boyfriend happening. Do you think they would choose someone who looked like they could defend themselves? It makes someone like me afraid to participate in a protest or go to any sort of political event...exactly what they want.

The fear (classic terrorism) is their goal.........most of us won't let them win on that basis.....be prepared.

Let's first make sure we know what the motive was.
Let's not end up looking like the libs when Rhandi Rhoadekill took a face plant coming out of a pub.

Snuggs, we aren't talking about the Jindal thing, we are talking about the "fear" that it will turn into something bad by election time. I agree that we shouldn't jump the gun. I found the article linked from FR and as soon as I posted it Sparky posted the MM link.
Can't we have a discussion about what this political climate could turn into by the 2010 mid-term elections? Should I start a different thread about it?

I think a different thread would be great. That way everyone can see what the actual topic is instead of having comments that could be able either topic.

Not that I'm a fan of the law, but shouldn't this be classified as a hate crime?

Yeah, keep thinking that the next time you come home from a Leader's Meeting and the missus has a wistful smile on her face as she's humming the theme from Looney Tunes to herself.

What does someone that can defend themselves look like?
Not like me.

Go get a couple of guns and learn to use them BEG. Everyone should be able to defend themselves in this day and age.

Any day and age really. Life has never been safe.
And the duty to defend yourself isn't just about one's self it is about not allowing bad people to deprive your family of you or what you proveide for them.
Self-defense is family defense.

LMAO! I guess I look like I cannot defend myself... Few months back a guy tried to mug and carjack me... well... I shot him. He landed himself a nice big cot in jail with regular antibiotics for lead and other assorted things.
It comes down to simply defending oneself. No reason to fear. If they attack you, hey its open season go for the throat. Its time for people to stop shunning in fear from attacks like this. Learn some violence of action.
