The KFC Double Down, a sandwich that the fast-food chain felt compelled to assure consumers was actually real and not an April Fools' Day prank, will land with a greasy thud in KFC locations across the U.S. on April 12, an advertisement on KFC’s website said Saturday.
The Double Down features bacon and Monterey Jack cheese surrounded not by a bun but by two fried chicken fillets. ...

Cheese is Cow Boobie Pee.
-
Does it come with a defibrillator?
But I know I'll get one. KFC chicken is addictive.
-
It's just the evolution of the single breast chicken snackers they sell now. I'll be buying
a bunch one after they debut.
-
I gotta have one; will cut it into 2 or three pieces for multiple servings.

Hey....no bread!!! Perfect for the no carb diet.... :-)

Look out! KFC will be getting a summons from the samich police Chelle Obozo.
-
It's got BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
It's not all meat if its got cheese
-
Love their chicken but the last couple of times I have eaten their side dishes tasted awful.
-
Cardiologist are thanking KFC's everywhere
-
Slap one between a biscuit, and it's breakfast heaven.
-
They tested this out in a couple of markets last year. Providence, RI was one of the markets. I wanted to make a run down there sooooooo bad at the time.

I can't stand their mashed potatoes. Pure paste :(
-
Coleslaw was liquid with a couple small chunks of cabbage-like substance. Even the mac-and-cheese was paste. HOW THE HELL DO YOU SCREW UP MACARONI AND CHEESE????
That being said, I want one of these artery-cloggers, just to say I've had one.
-
It's got breadING. But it's saturated with oil, so I suppose it's okay.
-
I think I've found what I'm going to be eating for lunch after I get home in a couple weeks
-

Taste like mud. Cold slaw is dry as a bone and the Mac. is terrible ....the cheese taste like some of that free crap the gov. used to give away many years ago.

Make sure you have someone CPR-qualified to hit you with the portable defib. Have the patches on and probes attached to, just so you'll be ready.
-
Nice. Cheese is closer to being meat than bread.
I want one.

luckily for me, I actually HAVE a defibrillator... :-)

Gotta lose the breading first though :-)

That wouldn't be good for a no carb diet as it has the breading....I think I'll skip this one....

Doctors group attacks KFC's newest product (http://www.suntimes.com/business/2153054,CST-NWS-Double12.article)
A physician group isn't chicken when it comes to fighting the latest high-fat fast-food offering.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is confronting KFC over its high-fat Double Down sandwich, urging the company to keep ads away from kids.
In a letter to the CEO of KFC parent Yum Brands, the group urged the fast-food chain to voluntarily adopt federal advertising restrictions forced on tobacco companies and not advertise the new product -- bacon and cheese sandwiched between a pair of fried chicken filets -- within 500 yards of a school, events attended by kids, outdoors or on transit vehicles.
The sandwich has 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium.
"Kids shouldn't be exposed to such recklessness," said Susan Levin, the group's director of nutrition education. "Just as many young people don't understand the risks of tobacco, they often do not realize that high-fat, meat-heavy meals greatly increase the risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and some types of cancer."
KFC says it doesn't advertise to children under 12.
"We also understand the importance of offering our consumers nutritious alternatives that complement our traditional menu choices," KFC spokeswoman Laurie Schalow said.
They're comparing this sandwich to tobacco. :banghead: :whatever:
-
Gotta lose the breading first though :-)
You can order it with the grilled chicken breasts.
-
Since nobody has popped in with this, let me be the first.
I had one tonight. And God help me, it was wonderful. I feel so guilty, yet so satisfied.
So what if I have to do an extra 4 hours on the elliptical tomorrow. I can now die a happy man, having tasted the ambrosia of fried goodness that is the Double Down.

Nice. I figured it had to be good since so many people were talking about it.

You can get it with the grilled breasts instead of breaded. I am iffy about trying one. It looks just too good that it must be bad for me.

Thanks for the review :-* Is it something you will re-order regularly? How about the portion size - it looks so big - could two people with smaller appetites split it, do ya think? It seems that advertising is marketing it to men, don't ya think?

I'm going to have time to grab some lunch before I hit the golf course today. Thinking this might be on my menu. I'll keep my blood pressure medication handy, though.

Gee, ya think?
Well then, why - I female person - would I want one? Must be some good marketing.
That sandwich looks absolutely heavenly. Good thing the nearest KFC is 25 miles away, lol. Maybe if I walked there and back...........?

According to KFC, the Original Recipe Double Down has 540 calories, 32g of fat and 1380mg of sodium.
With just a quick peek at the websites for Burger King, McDonald's and Wendy's, I had no trouble finding 10 items with higher calorie and fat (and in almost all cases, sodium) counts than the Double Down.
Burger King Triple Whopper:
1160 calories
76g fat
1170mg sodium
Burger King Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich:
800 cals
46g fat
1640mg sodium
Wendy's Baconator Double:
980 cals
62g fat
1740mg sodium

McDonald's is relatively healthy. Who knew?
They didn't include breakfast items on their comparison. Boo.

I am going to have to make time in my busy schedule to try this delicacy. I'll mark it on my calendar.

When will the madness end?

What you’ve got here is one tasty mother of a sandwich that starts with a half Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut, extra Colonel’s Sauce (gotta get in those added calories where you can), fried chicken breast, Colonel’s Sauce, cheese slice, bacon, cheese slice, fried chicken breast and other half doughtnut.
What you end up with is over 900 calories of tongue flipping delight. This thing will not only supply you with enough calories, sodium, sugar and fat for a good part of your day it will keep you up and running for a bit. The inevitable afternoon crash was not the best though…as there is now a brick in the belly. I do highly recommend you give this a shot though. I know it sounds far fetched but it’s actually quite delicious.

That looks gross to me....toooooooo much stuff.
Have you seen Paula Deen's recipe for bread pudding made with Krispy Kremes? OMG!!! Google it. If you have a super KK affinity, it's probably delicious.

And of course, who would call their lives complete without one of THE BACON MUG?
Yes, it's filled with cheddar cheese.
-
Nothing says love like bacon-wrapped bacon on a stick.
That mug looks pretty awesome. Makes me wish I had some nachos.

Mmmm, bacon flavored nacho chips.

There's a place in Costa Mesa (ARE YOU LISTENING, BEG???) called Wingnuts. They fry their own potato chips, and one of the dipping sauces was cheddar cheese. Oh, what a party. And they had an appetizer called Far East Nachos--wonton strips, teryaki chicken, green onions, olives, tomatoes, cheese, and a dipping sauce (I think it was ginger) which is to DIE for.
-
Of course, what did I bring in with me for lunch tonight? Baloney sandwich, chips, and a banana. I've already eaten the sandwich and chips.
7 am can't come soon enough. I'm gonna be HUNGRY.

Nope.

I tried one today; it was okay but not anything to write home about. The chicken breasts tasted rubbery. Think I will just stick with their orig. chicken.

My wife and I tried one last week.
I agree with your assessment. It was OK, but nothing all that great.

WAY too good for ya! Yum...
-
Their fried chicken breasts are pretty tasty. I've been lucky and haven't gotten one that was dried-out by the time I got to the restaurant.
Still haven't tried the Double Down yet.
-
Got one of each the breaded one was too soggy and the grilled tasted like leather yuck
-
I tried a DD last week and it was yummy. Was it worth five bucks? Eh not so much, but what I got was tasty. IMHO it would benefit from a dipping sauce of some sort.

What kind of sauce do you think for dipping? BBQ might be good. I have not had one yet, and have read mixed reviews. :uhsure: I still want to try one. Or a bite or two of one.
So, did you have the regular or the grilled version?
-
I'd actually get a side of the sauce they already put on it. That stuff is goooooooodddd.
-
ok, so, I had one of these today... it was good, but not that good. The chicken was a little tasteless, like they didn't have the 11 herbs, and there was almost no bacon flavor to it. The colonel's sauce on it was the best part.
