Dead at 46 because he couldn't afford medical treatment
Another person, apparently a very decent man who went out of his way to offer homeless people a chance to work for him whenever he had a job, has died because he didn’t have money so he declined a trip to the emergency room when he really needed to be checked out:
A 46-year-old self-employed carpenter in our town died because of head injuries he suffered in a fight with a 36-year-old homeless man he had given a job to and had allowed to stay in his house for a while. The police knew who was responsible for the death because the man was able to tell them the name of his attacker when they responded to a call to his house after the fight.
Police don’t yet know the reason for the fight.
But here’s the kicker: the man would probably still be alive, except that he had no health insurance and couldn’t afford medical treatment, so when they offered to take him to the emergency room, he declined treatment.
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2010/mar/31/lawrence-polic... /QuoteOfficers were called to the 800 block of Maine to investigate that incident on Sunday night and Fleming, at that time, declined medical treatment. He did, however, tell police the name of the man who attacked him.
When police were asked to check on Fleming on Tuesday, after he hadn’t shown up for work, officers found him dead inside his home. An autopsy performed Wednesday showed Fleming died of a head injury.
Moore said the fact that Fleming did not have health insurance might have kept him from seeking treatment for his injuries.“ He probably didn’t have the money to pay for an emergency room bill,†Moore said. “That’s probably why he didn’t go, and he probably didn’t realize how serious his injuries were.†{emphasis added)

1. I have health insurance and cant afford medical treatment
The man would be alive if he had access to affordable medical treatment.
The truth is only access to affordable medical treatment could have saved this mans life. Health insurance would have saved this mans life, but also put him into bankruptcy.
So after this "reform" we have the 46 million insured Americans still praying the same prayer they prayed before health care reform: Dear God, please don't let me or anyone in my family ever get seriously sick. Because if we ever have to access health care for anything other than a cold or a check-up, it will break us.

2. People with head injuries should not be allowed to decide

whether or not they should go to the ER. The head injury itself makes it impossible for the person to accurately determine the extent of the injuries.
Police and other first responders need to be reminded of the fact that the judgment of a person with a head wound is impaired because of the head wound!

4. Perpaps had he not gotten into a fight, which necessitated in the
declined trip to the ER, this would be a non-story.
When comes to fighting, discretion is the better part of valor.

the story clearly says he was attacked

7. Notice the nature of the fight
He was attacked in his own home by someone he was apparently trying to help.
boobooday (1000+ posts) Fri Apr-02-10 12:28 PMThere is no more free market healthcare, dipshit. You turdwads have been celebrating that fact for the last week, remember?

5. He was just being a consumer in the free market
Making financially responsible decisions about his own healthcare, instead of allowing government to ram it down his throat and save his life.
Damnit.

Speaking of unpossible. Yeah, maybe your insurance company won't pay for your transgender operation. Anyone in this entire country can walk into an ER or hospital and get care. The financial representatives will work with you to arrange payments, whether it be via Medicaid or paying out of your own pocket. It's been that way for a long time.

Read this DUmb ****s. I was in the hospital over night a month ago. Cost 11,000 dollars cause i went to the ER. I am not working right now. The financial representative set my up with a private charity which you hate. Hospital was bill covered 100%. Morons.

This crap has got to stop!
A friends brother died last week at the age of 44. He died of pneumonia. I have had that disease and it will lay a person out, but with proper medical care, it usually isn't fatal. But that's the thing, this man had no medical care because HE COULDN'T AFFORD INSURANCE! He had the opportunity to get some, but it was half of his weekly pay check. And this guy decided to pay rent and support his children. Of course now he can't support anyone. So **** anyone who says we don't need at least a medicare buy in for all people. A guy who has been fairly healthy all his life should not die and leave two children and an ex wife behind simply because he couldn't afford insurance.
It will surely end. People just don't die when they have socialized medicine. There's something about those sixteen-bed wards, grimy floors, and reused wound dressings that keeps the Grim Reaper at bay. As soon as we all have GS-9 affirmative action doctors, death will become nothing but a bad memory.
Dems, who passed ObamaCoup without a single GOP vote and ergo can only point to themselves as to why it did not pass sooner, have killed another America:QuoteBluzmann57 (1000+ posts) Fri Apr-02-10 12:19 AM

Guess what DUmmie? I had pneumonia when I was 44 too. It laid me out too. I COULDN'T AFFORD INSURANCE EITHER!!!!!!!1111!! I was 1400 miles away from home. My bill for 2 weeks of inpatient with physical therapy was taken care of by Teh JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO's at one of their teaching hospitals. They saved my life, twice.
When I got home did I get insurance? Damn skippy I did.
I got a new health insurance policy. My cold went away, I feel ten years younger, and now women and children smile at me on the street. :p
:whatever:
Glad you're okay, CC27. Instead of relying on the government, as I mentioned above, there a multitude of ways to arrange payments. And that's a big reason why charities exist too.
tblue37 (1000+ posts) Fri Apr-02-10 11:43 AMI'll cut it at that...I guess that *IF* the person was not a "very decent man" then their imaginary health care nightmares would be insignificant - to a DUmmy...

The ER would never treat him? Do they only treat illegals? They actually ask if your a citizen so as to cut you out of line for the illegals? If you want to be seen faster at the ER just walk in with blue work clothes on (set of Dickie's) with Border Patrol looking [patch on both shoulders, and WALLA ! You get head of the line privileges.

More likely, the ER would just clear out really quickly.

this is for all you DUmbass lurkers who think the Bummer is your savior.
Before anyone gets their panties in a bind..........
One of my buds with a perpetual sun tan, that worked for me long ago, sent me this one.....(http://sites.google.com/a/wildblue.net/bruceptt/pic/grandma.jpg)It seems that once again,
all us white folks have missed
a great opportunity.
While all the Negro and Muslim people attended
Obama's inauguration and parades,
we should have broken into their homes
and gotten all our shit back.
ETA:
Oh, BTW, he now has his own contracting business and makes enough money the taxes will force him to lay off 2 of his guys. He will then have to put in at least 16 hr days in order to keep up. He'd like to shove that "hope and change" BS right up the gubmint's collective ass! His wife rags on him already because he's not around enough!
