CNN Fails to Stop Fall in Ratings
Bill Carter, NYT
CNN continued what has become a precipitous decline in ratings for its prime-time programs in the first quarter of 2010, with its main hosts losing almost half their viewers in a year.
The trend in news ratings for the first three months of this year is all up for one network, the Fox News Channel, which enjoyed its best quarter ever in ratings, and down for both MSNBC and CNN.
CNN had a slightly worse quarter in the fourth quarter of 2009, but the last three months have included compelling news events, like the earthquake in Haiti and the battle over health care, and CNN, which emphasizes its hard news coverage, was apparently unable to benefit.
The losses at CNN continued a pattern in place for much of the last year, as the network trailed its competitors in every prime-time hour. (CNN still easily beats MSNBC in the daytime hours, but those are less lucrative in advertising money, and both networks are far behind Fox News at all hours.)

Fox News beating both MSNBC and CNN...that must explain the huge extremist right-wing uprising in the nation right now. This year, a Public Policy Polling survey found Fox News to be the most trusted American news network. Other polls have shown that many people trust Fox News as a legit news source despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

1. I don't understand why msnbc doesn't do better. Between Keith and Rachel you would think they would
be beating faux.
TV stations no longer broadcast test patterns, so Keef and The Munch are unlikely to outdraw anything currently on TV, let alone the most popular news network on cable TV.

It's a shame, too, because they still actually have a few news bureaus. They can't compete with Fox on the right (who can?) and they're too timid to stake out a position on the left. It's hard to care all that much, though, b/c the cable news demographic isn't all that hot. Besides, CNN still employs Leslie "Wolf" Blitzer. Ew.

We are smack in the middle of an anti-intellectual rising and some refuse to believe it. And this is only being fueled by the poverty of our educational system. Things will be getting even worse as we watch the disrespect of teachers and the dismantlement of public education.

7. I think we need CNN to succeed...
If Ted Turner were to buy it back, things could be turned around. There's no way to be a slightly nicer little brother to Fox News(liars). That said, I'll stick with MSNBC at any rate - Olbermann, Maddow, Shuster and Schultz are too good to beat.
Actually, they're regularly beaten by nearly everything else on TV, including ShamWow and SlapChop infomercials. People prefer his nuts to those employed by PMSNBC.

Fox is the only channel that isn't just showing "How does this affect our Dear Beloved Leader?" and "How can we best give another BJ to our Bestest President Evah?" programs and calling them 'News.' They are just reaping the benefits offered by the herd mentality of the rest of the pack, and the rest are far out of synch with what the viewership wants to see.

2 of the 3 broadcast networks didn't even mention the dude getting arrested for threatening Cator and his family. Wasn't worth cutting into their fake reports of TEA Party violence.

Well the idea isn't to just sit there. Watching porn can be a contact sport. First you see it then you do it. These people are incapable of thinking outside of the box. Must be why their little world view falls apart without being able to compartmentalize people by race/gender/age/sexual identity/political philosophy, etc. What boring, pathetic little lives they have. My chickens are more active (and they probably have better sex lives).

CNN's attempt to steal MSNBC's moonbat audience isn't doing them any favors. Rick Sanchez, Anderson Cooper, Fareed Zakaria, and Christina Amanpour are no match for Ed Schultz, Keef, Keef Junior, and Dylan Ratigan.

The only time I watched msnbc was for hockey during the Olympics. They had advertisements for their news shows, one commentator said he wanted to be the viewers advocate. Just give me the news, I don't need or require your advocacy.

Ice hockey drew a bigger audience on PMSNBC than Keef! Olympic curling had killer ratings compared to Keef and The Munch, even though the entire viewing audience lived in one neighborhood in Hamilton, Ontario.
