Should be picking up the 98 in a couple of weeks. This will be a SLOW process. I work insane hours, have a very small garage, and I don't even have an air compressor wired at the house.
Hope to have it done by July 4 for Crawl-4-the-Cure in MN.

At least you have a garage :(
Looks like fun.
-
True... though that's not my (4-car) garage in the pics. Buddy picked it up for me and has offered to pull the body... so all I have to do is pick up the roling chassis. :cheersmate:

What does the rolling chassis have that your truck doesn't?

Actually that looks like a rolled chassis! :rotf:
I'm gonna guess he wants the V6?
-
Probably. :p

4Runner has a 3.0 v6. Notoriously under powered, hard to work on and has a reputation for blowing headgaskets and #5 cylinder valves. The 3.4 in the '98 is a very popular swap. Easy to work on, looks cleaner, as amost 30% more HP and is more efficient. I'll do this entire swap for about 1/2 it would cost me to rebuild my 3.0 (it's getting tired).
Looks like I'll pick it up this weekend. Top is already cut off and body should be off by Saturday. :D

My husband has a '53 Chevy truck that actually ran when he got it. He took it apart, had it dipped, did a lot of body work, gave the motor away, bought a Corvet chassis and a 6.0 liter chevy engine out of an Escaldae. He hasn't had the time to work on it in about a year. It is still all in pieces, the chassis still sitting there by itself, and the engine is still sitting there waiting to be put in the truck. He never has the time to work on it. We had it moved to CA in pieces. At first the moving company said they wouldn't move it.
-
Oops I meant a corvet suspension, the chassis is the original chassis.
-
Have him send me the 6.0 Escalate engine, please... before it rusts. :-)
I go get my 3.4 tomorrow! Going to be a very, VERY long day... 850 miles round trip.

Few pics from the trip...
Getting ready to head out...

Loaded and ready to leave Omaha...

Left at 7 am, got home at 9:45 PM. Could have shaved about two hours off of the trip, but we dilly-dallied.
3.4 is currently on the stand, compression passed and awaiting my next steps. Frame is almost stripped - body hauled away last week ($26 for me!) and hoepfully frame this Saturday. Selling the rest off slowly.
Gasket kits have gone up a lot in the last 15 years... Dealer quoted me over $450... :mental: So I need to make some decisions. Not looking foward to the wiring.. and still need to find a 5-speed ECU...

Thought I would show you my husband's engine.

"Some Assembly Required" :-)

Since it's "change job time" at our company, i'm starting to prepare myself for potential next opportunities...
And thinking about putting the house on the market - as soon as the rock, doors and carpet are done...
And just posted this ad in all the right places:
V6, 5-speed, working A/C, power windows, power locks, sun-roof
I bought this truck 3.5 years ago from Ryan Heintz. Very well done, professionally built truck. I've put maybe 100 miles on it total and three wheeling trips (Not MN legal, but would be a fine DD). I love this truck and do not need to sell it, but it is not being used. Very capable, very clean. Everything works very well. I had planned to do a 3.4 swap and have an engine but have somewhat lost interest.
Would consider partial trade for a low-mileage 99-2000 4Runner Limited. White or Gray w/ Tan leather, and in excellent shape. I'm not interested in any other trades (except maybe Taco-Extreme. :grinpimp:).
I have all receipts from the build.

Well, at least it looks clean (I hate reading long ads). :-)

I do too, but it's kind of the nature of the modified truck sales process... the longer the add, the more perceived value and the lesser the shock and dismay at seeing the price. :)
My ex-gf is going to shit when she finds out...
