This isn't from the DUmmies site, but I found it on a friend's Facebook page.
From the Liberal..
Wait a second, Prius' cost a fortune. Welfare bums who need free healthcare can't afford them. Hybrid vehicles are for rich people who can afford not only to pay extra for them, but who can alsp afford a big mortgage on a big house. More likely, your tax dollars are paying for subsidized, public housing that is occupied by druggies and welfare bums. Oh, and from what I have seen in Uniontown, those same druggies who live off your dime in public housing drive SUVs. They might be stolen SUVs, but they are still SUVs.
Me...
Liz... a Prius is $23,000.... that's why you see so many on the road. You are claiming welfare bums have SUVs.... so, couldn't they also have a Prius since a Prius is less then half the cost of SUVS?
Her brother...
And you get a tax credit for buying one don't you? Where does that tax money come from? If the Kenya guy shut off the printing presses, then the money came from us. If they are still printing then we are all in trouble and it doesn't matter...lol
Liberal again...
No, the druggies and welfare bums STEAL the SUVs so they can drive around looking for drugs. Their drug dealers are the ones who actually buy SUVs 'cause they have the cash to do so (good money, no income taxes). They don't bother with Priuses 'cause they don't fit the ideal image of a drug dealer. Plus, Priuses are too small for toting around their pit bulls on fight nights. Who is this Kenya guy? Hey, guess, what, speaking of tax credits, I got a HUGE tax credit for buying an energy-efficient metal roof for my house. THANKS!!!!!!! Although I will add that I got a metal roof 'cause I wanted one, not because of the tax credit. It was actually cheaper than regular shingles. But the tax credit did come in handy -- it paid for my incredibly inefficient, whole-house AC that I just had installed. Somehow, I don't think that is what Uncle Sam envisioned when he created the tax credits.
Me again....
Isn't that a stereotype? Saying all people with SUVs are basically druggies and welfare bums? That's like saying all black people eat fried chicken and watermelon.
And then her response to that.. (I was waiting for the, THAT'S RACIST response.)
Well, you are correct. I guess it's no different from assuming that all Democrats are "tree hugging liberals who want free healthcare" or that everyone with a hybrid is a so-called "liberal." Holy crap, I found a FB site for conservatives who drive Priuses:
http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=2204203211&topic=6555
This is my favorite quote from the site, so far:
I drive a Prius with the sticker "Annoy a Liberal - Work hard & be Happy" I am going to make a sticker that says "Global Warming is SOLAR Powered" That's right next to my "Pit Bulls for Palin" sticker! I love parking next to a Lib Prius with their Obama stickers - it really pisses them off!!!

In what universe. Metal roofs where I live are about 3 times what a 30 year dimensional shingle will run you.

I guess it depends where you live, and if you do the work yourself....
I did mine myself 3 years ago, took about a day to cover 1,800 sq/ft, and cost me about $68/square, compared to $78/square for shingles. This price includes nails, felt paper, flashing, etc....
FWIW, I paid $30/square 18 years ago for the shingles I replaced with the metal roof....

I wonder if we are talking about different types of metal roofs. The ones that get put on around here are ... not the shiny metal roofs but more the designer type that have an impact rating and a fire rating. The shiny ones are not allowed per deed restrictions. Heck the guy next to me has a metal roof that looks just like a clay tile roof. Bad for hurricanes though. His last metal roof blew off during hurricane Rita but this one made it through hurricane Ike.

No, I got the colored type from Lowe's. The shiny kind you speak of is what goes on a barn or shed. It's called 5V roof, is very thin, and needs to be painted every year or so to keep it from rusting....

Huh. Imagine that. It must be a regional thing. The people down here, who sell and install the roof, charge almost 3 times what a composition shingle will run you.

Somebody installed it wrong then. A metal roof is one of the best made for hurricanes. We did an informal damage survey (drove around looking LOL) after all the '04 hurricanes we had here in Central Florida. The only metal roof damage done to the fancy homes along the rivers here were from falling trees. None of the roofs took a bit of damage from the wind. The winds even had plenty of power to do so after whistling across a mile of open water.
The tree damage was mostly just minor holes from a branch getting driven through the metal from a falling larger mass. Of course nothing is going to withstand damage from a 200 year old oak tree dropping on your house. Those happen around here on sunny days too. :-)
I'm totally sold on metal as a roofing material. When this roof needs replacing I'll be up there slinging around panels. I'll have a roof that will outlive me that way.

Well, I don't know about the informal survey but even the salesmen for the metal roofs here will tell you they aren't good for hurricanes. They are too light. If the wind gets under them you will lose it.
Me, all I know is the only roof around here that was peeled off was my neighbors. I was actually outside in the wind when it decided to come off his house. The roofs that faired the best during the hurricanes were the cement/clay tile roofs. Those things had zero problems.

Here the cement/tiles have a reputation for sliding off the roof. Dad had to replace his perfectly fine tile roof down in Boca Raton because no one would buy the house with one on it.
Your building codes must not require enough screws for the conditions. Screw it down close and tight enough and nothing will rip it loose.

Around here they put strips down on the decking (can't remember what the hell it's called right now ....) then they screw the metal down to those strips. I think that is part of the problem is that it allows wind to get under the metal.
As to building codes .... our county doesn't have any! LOL Even if we did we couldn't afford an inspector to enforce the code. I'm in one of the poorest counties in the whole state.

Ahhh OK around here the materials have to meet or exceed Miami Dade code for something like 2 gazillion MPH and able to withstand a tactical nuclear blast. The labor portions like nails per foot or paper layers depend on the wind lines set for each area.
I'm now in the 120+ zone where I was in the 115+ zone before I moved 3 miles east. I have to strip off the old and re-nail off my decking and add a waterproof membrane before I can throw down 1 piece of felt for any re-roofing I do. My hurricane clips are good but the plywood is freaking stapled down right now and that alone precludes any traditional throwing a new over the old like used to happen when you re-roofed.

Please, please buy metal roofs. I could use the sales!!! Depends on the type of roofing you get. Architectural asphalt shingles can cost about the same as a good metal roof. Make sure it is 30 yr warranty, and hurricane rated. Have someone VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE install. Unless you know exactly what you're doing, you may have rusting in the valleys and leaks. If you want any info, PM me. Thanks!!
