It won't be an eco-catastrophe. It won't be a flood.
It'll be an economic-socio-political collapse of "civilization" as we have known it.
Obama and the government/political/superwealthy classes are trying to build his arks he hopes will "control the people" after its all over, to hell with the rest of us. Hopefully those who survive won't be idiots who think we can get more out of a government than we put in and that it could ever be sustainable or controllable. Government has proven itself not to be a necessary evil after all, just evil.

I suspect so as well. And it will be global, as least as far as the industrialized world goes. Too much intertwining these days to be otherwise. Again... IMO.

Which is why other countries have been trying to prop us up, they HAVE to.

But even that is not sustainable for extended periods.
It is no longer a matter of if their is a global economic crash coming. It's merely a matter of when.

Nothing about any of this is sustainable.
We have gotten to the tip of the giant pyramid scheme.

2012 ?
Unlikely IMO.
Give it another 10-20 years before we start having any really serious problems.
A system as large and complex as the existing one takes a long time to get to that exponential part of the slippery slope.
Doesn't mean one shouldn't be ready to go "right now" should the need arise though.

Someone needs to start building that Galt's Gulch now though, where's Midas??
Anyone start building a generational ship to Alpha Centauri??

Ummm...
We've already been sliding down that slope for decades, it is getting steeper and we are rapidly approaching terminal velocity.
-
I am not sure it is possible to even slow it down, not that any politicians on the horizon even want to.
-
I don't buy any of the 2012 drama. If we can turn over at least one house of Congress in 2010, we might even survive the incredibly stupid Obama economic death spiral.
-
If things keep going the way they are,World War Three is right around the corner. But this time it could be in our own backyard.
We could do all the storing, saving, and backpack prep you think we need. But when you're up against the masses of hurt, hunger, and starving people, all I can say is you better have some backup or a good placed in mind.
And who know it could happen this next week. You'll have to know how to disappear into the woods, mountains or desert. You'll have to know how to survival on the land and not depend on anyone. Are you ready?
Be alert, there will always be a battle to fight. We fight one everyday. With the help of the Lord we will make it through.

DAT, I think it'll happen in late 2013, myself. Why? I think that the House is as good as Republican by this time next year, and the Senate probably so (if only by a vote or two). In 2012, you'll have a (by then) tremendously unpopular President Obama at the top of the ticket. 23 of the 33 Senate seats that will be up for re-election then are held by Democrats at the present. (Used to be 24 of 33, but Scott Brown got one.) With the taxes from the health care deform still in the forefront of everyone's minds, Obama will get buried, and will drag 13 or 14 of those 23 seats to defeat with him. Then, either President Mitch Daniels or President Rick Perry will have a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate to work with. When the rollback of the damage that the Oministration has done, starts to occur--that's when the lefties will get violent towards anybody and everybody. It'll be incredibly short, violent, and bloody--but 2014 will begin with a lot fewer lefties out there than before.

When the GOP took over Congress in 94 it moderated Clinton so much that he won re-election
doubt Obama would ever sound moderate though

Clinton had learn to live with people across the aisle in Arkansas. 0Bama never had to moderate--his teachers, peers, religious leaders and associates all were of the radical left.

Obama is also surrounded by nothing but pure yes men

Well, BSS & Co., I will say this; IMHO the likeliest SHTF scenario is that Islamists will be able to lay hands on a functioning nuke and flambe one our coastal cities, or possibly a Western European one, by the 2020-2025 timeframe, which will plunge the world into economic chaos as bad in its own way as the problems that will be faced by anyone in the effective downwind pattern ellipse.

I dunno, the more I hear about different prognosticators, and the fact that many of them see Dec 21, 2012 as a pivotal event, I often wonder. Either way, it's best to be prepared than to be caught empty handed.
