Among the peeves I keep as pets, chief is my loathing of the Easter Bunny.  There are many reasons to hate the Bunny.  I will get into why in particular the Bunny, but first to some other pressing business.

Why is it that religious holidays require mascots to make them palatable to secularists who otherwise wouldn’t give a fig about the celebration?  While some mascots are cool in their own right, most add nothing and typically detract from the holiday’s expressed purpose.

Take the leprechaun.  Actually, don’t take the leprechaun. I am pretty sure that taking a leprechaun is bad luck.  But the leprechaun as a symbol of St. Paddy’s Day?  A hard-drinking short guy consumed with greed is not a good mascot for a celebration of a great saint’s feast day.  A good mascot for Christopher Hitchens’ Day perhaps, but not for St. Patrick’s Day.

Need I say more about the Easter Bunny. Someone agrees with me. The Easter Bunny is a filthy ptarmigan killing and oppressing sodomite. All bunnies are filthy bloodthirsty beasts and thugs.

A rabbit that hides colorful eggs is a strange symbol for a religious holiday for sure.

Yeah, I was always told to stay away from the brown things rabbits left behind.

They ought to be pretty ripe then, by the time that rabbit attempts to hide 'em in my yard.

Perhaps that's why I lay out in the front yard on the evening before Easter with my rifle, filling the annual family traditions of giving my son all the candy that little furry bugger was carrying, and serving up our annual Easter Hossenpfeffer for supper.  :evillaugh:

Which Ptarmigans lay the Malted Milk Chocolate Eggs?  I much prefer them over plain ole chocolate ones.

Easter...... Derived from the word "Este", the pagan goddess of fertility, hence the chickens and rabbit symbols.
Rabbits and chickens were throat-cut and the blood sprinkled across the fields to promote fertility in the crops.
The ritual coincided with the Catholic Church's day that Christ arose from the dead. So what, you say?

The Catholics were no fools. Since the fertility rite was virtually on top of the celebrated Catholic holiday, they joined the two so as to get more people into church. Over time, it worked.
Ever wonder about Christmas and Halloween?

The early church was persecuted relentlessly and they were smart enough to celebrate their holidays when everyone else did their so as not to be as easily singled out and killed, or sold into slavery.

Halloween coincides with All Souls' Day and All Saints' Day, both very celebrated in the Catholic Church.

The ASD's also just happen to be near the Ancient Celtic celebration of Samian which was roughly around November 1, to celebrate the harvest.....
