That was wrong.  Really wrong.  Funny, but wrong.

And for the answer to the question, you might want to check out WebMD.  They have some pretty good answers there.

I surely did okay, lasting nine days, back in the mid-1990s, when I was wandering around the socialist paradises of the workers and peasants with free medical care for all--and rare was the sight of decent and civilized plumbing.

There was no way I was going to squat like that.

The trick was to watch what one ate, and to eat very little of that.

Mahorka and weak tea pulled me through it, until I got to civilized plumbing.

I actually became a legend among the workers and peasants (although I wasn't aware of it at the time; revelation came later), who got this idea Americans don't have to do that.

A testament to my intestinal fortitude.

My intestinal fortitude is greatly in doubt at the moment.

It has been several days since anything but a watery sluice has emerged and it has me very worried.

There has been a stomach virus/flu thingy going around in our area.  That might be it as well.

Thats possible. I seriously thinking of gulping down some Ex-Lax and camping in the bathroom.

Well the malady you are describing, sounds like what has attacked people around here that I know.  I would suggest keeping your fluid level up, to prevent dehydration.

I have been.

It's just too weird (I would suggest people stop reading here, trust me) that so much liquid is coming out of THERE. If you know what I mean, instead of the, um, solids... I am use to.

Sheer intestinal fortitude, assisted with a very modest diet that could starve a bird.

Intestinal fortitude is why I haven't yet freaked out over the primitives on Skins's island.

That's a certainly more dramatic option.

You could just go to Walgreen's and buy a Fleet enema and do it yourself.

Or some Dulcolax and take a couple of them.....they are what gastroenterologists prescribe as part of the prep "clean-out" for a colonoscopy. Trust me...they are highly effective... :uhsure:

I remember after having my daughter....because of all the medication I had some serious issues. AND my wonderfully sweet old doctor, wouldn't let me go home until I pooped! Easy for him to say, his parts weren't surrounded with stitches.... and my parts had decided they were just fine without pooping.

Took 4 days for his wishes and my parts to see "eye to eye" so to speak!  :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

Also some stool softeners and laxatives.  :censored:

No problems "building up" after my colonoscopy, but the surgery a few weeks later--that was another story.  Cutting out 10 inches of your colon will do that.

I was in labor with her for 27 hours....the first 6 at home, the rest in the hospital. For the first 8 hours, I had an IV to just keep my fluid levels up and in case they needed to inject anything. For the next 12 hours I had pitossin to increase the contractions......the last 45 minutes I had an epidural. No pain meds until it was over.

To think I was willing to go through it again!!!! :o

When I have had surgery though....it's like popping in a cork.  :lmao:

If the poop starts coming out of your mouth, you wish you would die. My ex g.f. had that happen. She wound up in the hospital and attempts at a bowel movement were unsuccessful so they had to operate on her.

Well, that's what happens when you develop diverticulitis, and it fistulas between your colon and bladder.  Not a fun day when you're farting and pooping out your crank (not kidding.)

This is very serious. If there is a health store around  Go get some Barleans Flax seed oil. Try taking 2 TBSP in the morning and 2 in the evening. Also Calm magnesium by Peter Gilliam. The side effect to magnesium is loosening the stool and relaxing the colon. It may take a bit to get through but there have been some bad cases to come to the store, and this seemed to work. You could get Renew Constipation Stop after the bowel empties. It will carry water to the colon. Here's a few statements from ASK:Hope everything comes out OK. ::)

While you may want to believe that chronic constipation is little more than an inconvenience that will not lead to any serious medical problems—nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is that constipation symptoms are no laughing matter because they may actually be part of a larger medical problem, such as:

Diabetes
MS
Parkinson’s Disease
Colon Cancer
Polyps
Truthfully, chronic or near-constant constipation symptoms are NOT generally caused by one of the conditions listed above. Instead, there are three main culprits to consider when thinking about the source of chronic bowel incontinence, such as:

Fecal impaction—constipation symptoms are commonly caused by blockages that form between the bottom of the large intestines and the beginning of the colon. This narrow passage will clog easily and create abdominal pain and constipation problems until the impaction is removed.

Dehydration—when the body is deprived of the water it needs, then stool will become drier and bowel movements will be more painful and difficult. If you are having problems treating the condition with standard constipation remedies (laxatives, enemas, or other home remedies), you may simply want to make sure that you are getting enough liquids. Be sure to consume at least ½ ounce of water for every pound of body weight in order to prevent constipation due to dehydration.

Diet—Frequent bowel movements are common when you have a healthy and balanced diet. One of the biggest constipation causes is insufficient fiber intake. While certainly not a cure for constipation, fiber will add bulk to your stool so that it is easier to pass through the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, fiber helps prevent constipation because it adds water to stool so that it is softer and easier to pass during bowel movements.
If the constipation cause is indeed an impaction, then death can result if the condition is not properly treated. The body must eliminate stool in a timely manner in order to remove toxins and harmful bacteria. If no constipation remedy is found, then the harmful bacteria and toxins present in the feces will be reabsorbed into the bloodstream. At first, this merely strains the immune system and causes minor cellular damage. However, the bacteria levels will continue to climb until they cause a massive body-wide infection known as septicemia. Septicemia can lead to death unless treated with antibiotics.

Constipation symptoms should be taken very seriously especially when they persist beyond 4-5 days. The build-up of toxins and bacteria in your body may not always lead to death—but these harmful elements will lead to long-term permanent damage. To prevent fecal impactions and blockages that cause constipation, you should use an all natural colon cleanser periodically to flush the gastrointestinal tract and remove the accumulated feces along the colon walls. Colon cleansers made from chemicals and other synthetic ingredients may not prevent constipation problems—in fact, they may cause them because they often lead to dehydration! So, be sure to use an all natural colon cleanser in order to best prevent chronic constipation problems and the long term medical consequences they cause.

When food remains in the colon for an extended period of time, it begins to putrefy. In other words, germs invade the food and it begins to rot within us. As always, this putrefaction process results in the production of toxic waste. If this toxic waste remained in the colon, the situation would not be too serious. The reality, however, is that much of this poisonous matter is taken up into the bloodstream. What this means, in effect, is that constipation actually gives rise to a process of self-poisoning. In medical terms, this process is referred to as auto-intoxication.

Auto-intoxication is the process whereby the body literally poisons itself by maintaining a cesspool of decaying matter in its colon. This inner cesspool can contain as high a concentration of harmful bacteria as a cesspool under a house. The toxins released by the process of decay are drawn into the bloodstream and travel to all parts of the body. Every cell in the body gets affected, and many forms of sickness can result. Because it weakens the entire system, auto-intoxication can be a causative factor for nearly any disease.

You absolutely have to use the oil.The soft gels, meal or tablets won't work.

Most of the time people don't take enough water with the tablets, and the liquid or powder magnesium. Anything liquid in a supplement works better,by my experience and research.

I will admit that Inga is right. She forced me to take the flax seed oil and it's worked better than most anti-constipation remedies out there. It tastes a little "grassy", but it did help. Of course, I don't like to take it because of the taste. She almost has to force me to take some stuff.  :o

Perhaps a day late but...

Make sure you're staying plenty hydrated. That may seem counter-intuitive if you had diarrhea, but dehydration can lead to diarrhea.

An ortho-static test can help determine:

1. Lie down and get plenty settled. Take pulse for 30 secs and multiply by 2.

2. Stand up for 3 mins but no exertion. Take pulse for 30 secs and multiply by 2.

3. If standing pulse > 30 than sitting pulse you are dehydrated.

Severe dehydration may require IV therapy...c'mon over, I'm loaded for the zombie Apocalypse and I'll hook a brother up.

Dehydrated or not:

Metamucell can help by scrubbing out the pipes. Once in the AM, once early evening.

BRAT dies x3 days. Bananas. Rice. Applesauce. Toast.

Avoid sugary drinks, tea, dark colas, coffee, alcohol. Clear fluids are best. Gatorade is good but alternate with water unless you like peeing out rocks. No cigarettes.

If symptoms persist > 7 days refer to medical officer for further evaluation.

I did eat bananas and applesauce and some breads.. biscuits... no rice though that I remember.

I drank plenty believe me. Including some Gatorade, but mostly water. But I drank some soda too, maybe it lasted longer because of that.
