Canadian university to Ann Coulter: Your hateful rhetoric won’t fly here, watch your mouth Updated at 3:48 PM
Canadian university to Ann Coulter: Your hateful rhetoric won’t fly here, so watch your mouth when you visit.
http://thinkprogress.org/2010/03/22/canada-coulter /
Far-right pundit Ann Coulter will be in Canada this week for “a trio of speaking engagements,†including one at the University of Ottawa. In advance of her visit, a senior official at the school sent Coulter a letter warning her to use “restraint, respect and consideration†in her remarks and telling her to review the country’s hate speech and defamation laws. From the letter:
I would, however, like to inform you, or perhaps remind you, that our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or “free speechâ€) in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here.
You will realize that Canadian law puts reasonable limits on the freedom of expression. For example, promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges. Outside of the criminal realm, Canadian defamation laws also limit freedom of expression and may differ somewhat from those to which you are accustomed. I therefore ask you, while you are a guest on our campus, to weigh your words with respect and civility in mind.
In the past, Coulter has bashed Canada, saying, “They’d better hope the United States doesn’t roll over one night and crush them. They are lucky we allow them to exist on the same continent.†In response to the letter, Coulter writes, “I was hoping for a fruit basket, not a threat to prosecute.â€

"The federation does not support Ann Coulter speaking on our campus," said student president Seamus Wolfe. "We're trying to work with the administration to see if we can ask her to do her speaking event somewhere else."

5. Everybody Sing! Oh Canada!
Love love LOVE you guys!
I bet you do. Universal health care, no free speech rights, and high taxes.

To keep the DUmmies from saying something hateful..... you'd have to cut their tongues out.
-
Glad to see that you can speak your mind, as long as it's a leftist mind, in Canada and on DU.

I can see why the primitives would like the above. It could just as easily have been said by Kim Jong Il regarding the laws of North Korea and be just as true.

To paraphrase the words of the great poet-warrior Shaq-Tsu,
"How's my ass taste?"

Ann Coulter Threatened With Criminal Charges In Canada (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7990188)
Reported by Ellen - March 22, 2010 -
Fox Nation is reporting that Ann Coulter's hate mongering could get her into more than just the headlines in Canada.
A letter from the University of Ottawa where, apparently, Coulter is scheduled to speak tomorrow, states:
We are, of course, always delighted to welcome speakers on our campus and hope that they will contribute positively to the meaningful exchange of ideas that is the hallmark of a great university campus. We have a great respect for freedom of expression in Canada, as well as on our campus, and view it as a fundamental freedom, as recognized by our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
I would, however, like to inform you, or perhaps remind you, that our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or "free speech") in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. Gee, they didn't even mention that she's a two-time voter-fraud suspect.

If Ann is successful in her complaint, the DUmb**** heads would be all over the place. We even could get a suicide or two out of it! :evillaugh: :cheersmate:

I love how they DUmb****s still trot out the "voter-fraud" bit, even though those allegations have long since been disproven and gone bye-bye.

These are the same spineless dick heads that would welcome Imadinnerjacket with open arms.
-
Looks like they pulled a fire alarm and threatened Ann as well as attendees of her talk tonight...
-
So it was cancelled out of "security concerns" because leftists are violent.
