So, if the MANDATE is challenged in court and is declared
unconstitutional, what then? Wouldn't this allow Obama to tell the Insurance thugs, "Hey, we tried." Couldn't we then just provide single payer by opening Medicare for all?
I think the mandate idea might be the way out of the Insurance profit thingy.
Anyway, would the Insurance Companies let the Repukes challenge the mandate? Would the current Supreme Court rule against something so pro Insurance company?
It could get really interesting.
We might have Medicare for All before 2014. Cool.

While it is in lord 0's sights to get single payer no this wasn't his plan.

Don't you see? 0Bama is cutting $500B from Medicare waste to fund those new people. That same $500B is also counted towards reducing the deficit. It's plain if you'd just be willing to believe 0bama. [/DU mode]

I think you may be wrong on this one, Freeper. If the mandate is struck down by the Court, the Dims will use that as an excuse to go single-payer. If it's not, the government will just put more mandates, including price controls, on the insurance companies until they can no longer stay in business. The government will then reluctantly :whatever: step in to clean up the mess that it created.

I don't deny that as a possibility (a slight one) but, I do not believe that was the plan. I believe the plan is to over time make insurance so expensive that we beg for a public option.

Killing the mandate will doom the insurance companies. Price control regulations are coming, they can't turn anyone down, nor drop them. There is no lifetime limit on payouts, and there is going to be limits on how low their yearly limits can be set. I also think that preventative care must be covered.
Without the mandates, private insurance will be a thing of the past.

So, it's like, if I have only one nickel, I can still rub 2 nickels together....right?

That scenario is way to scary to think about. It would be the end of America.

Basically if the mandate fails, the (Skittle-shitting unicorn-based) CBO economic analysis of the whole thing falls apart and the bill has to be drastically revised, possibly even repealed in large part.

There is a real rainbow ,if this does not pass judical muster.
The legal action willtake, even if expedited a few months. By that time we will be on the cusp of the November elections. Those results are gonna take the wind from the lib sails
