She started going to a chiropractor, which I thought was innocent enough, but now they're (along with her friends who go) feeding her phony-baloney ideas like "raw sugar is healthier than refined sugar" and that my 15-month-old's potential ear infection can be treated with spinal "corrections." That last one reared its ugly head today and I was disgustedly flabbergasted as I gave her a flat-out "No!" I found an article by John Stossel about raw sugar and she doesn't buy that raw sugar is neither more nor less healthy than refined sugar. She absolutely convinced of this stuff and I can only see it getting worse. I don't know what else I can do.

I don't know what to tell you to do jinx, maybe it's just a phase and she will get bored with it quickly. The infected ear thing with your baby though scares me, I would put my foot down on that one.

The absolute only idea I can come up with is to tell her she is free to do whatever she wants to for her own health, but, until she can provide accredited documentation that the chiro way is better that what the AMA says for real medical care, that will be the way we go with the baby.
That, at the very least, should buy you some time, until she gets bored with it, or it doesn't work.
Raw sugar, that is that turbinado stuff, right? If so, I like it on top of muffins. Makes em pretty and crunchy sugary on the top.
-
Like BEG said, it is probably just a phase.
The former Mrs. Wiggum used to do weird stuff like that too every few months. I just accepted it after a while...until we got divorced. Now she's someone else's problem. :-)
-
Hopefully its just a phase. *fingers crossed*
How in the world does the backbone connect to the ear canal?? Ain't no way you should go along with that one.
-
LESS sugar is healthy, but the kind of sugar makes little difference to your body. Raw, organic, all-natural...those are labels they stick on foods in order to sell more. Seriously, hemlock is raw, organic and all-natural...but it ain't very good for you! ::)

I won't tell you what else they are treating my wife for using "spinal correction." But if you don't guess what it is, I'll give you another month and then another month after that and another month after that.
-
"Spinal correction" doesn't sound good, I don't care who you are. :(

Brother, I feel for you. I'm going through the same thing. She want's me to give up coffee, because it's doing something to me. Well, that ain't going to happen. White bread, oh no, gotta be wheat. I have to sneak out to Taco Bell and Dunkin' donuts every now and then for a sanity check. She'd croak if she knew all the hot Dogs I still eat.

I agree. I'd put my foot down very quick and very hard when it comes to the well being of the child.
-
I would suggest just my 2 cent's worth look at the damages she may be doing to her body with the adjustments. Good luck

Absolutely! Untreated ear infections can lead to serious problems.

I agree.
My ex DIL was going to a chiropractor for TMJ. She went monthly for over a year. Did nothing for her.
He referred her to Dr. Feel Good. He prescribed her lots of pain medication and she got well all of a sudden.

Chiropracty is the specialty of the Devil. :evillaugh:

Well, the boy saw the doctor yesterday and everything was fine. He's getting molars in, so it's probably teething pain. We have had strep going around the area (my daughter and I had it recently, in fact), so better safe than sorry, especially with a child who cannot communicate beyond crying and body language.
I agree that a more healthful lifestyle is good, but not this kooky "spinal corrections can fix anything" and "raw foods" crap. There's an underground market for "raw milk" straight from the cow, but that doesn't mean it's healthy for you.
-
My Stepmother's family had a dairy farm. We drank raw milk there, and it was pretty tasty. With that being said, I would be wary of drinking raw milk from just anywhere.

Careful. Patriot Lady will be all over you with that statement, extolling the virtues and wonders of her "science."

Jinx, sorry to hear the wife is believing the Chiro stupidity. At one time I had to see one, but all he did was get my back straightened out (yes it worked) and didn't try the holistic shit. Some of them are complete kooks, sounds like that's what your wife found. You might have to damn the torpedo's and put your foot down.
Raw food is proven to be B.S. as far as all the "miracles" the practitioners expouse.

Remember if the strep comes bacj Jinx, get a back rub!

Jinx, you poor, poor bastard. You have my sympathy. My wife has never gone off the rails (In that direction), but my younger sister did. The consequences were almost catastrophic for her kid, but that experience pulled her back to somewhere on the left side of the normal range.

Chiro visits can be like crack, very addictive. Some chiros try to heal everything and they simply can't. I know one that died early in his 50's because he refused to see medical doctors. All he needed was a simple Rx and he would still be alive today.
Chiropractic does work for some conditions & I rec comend it.
Regular adjustments keep pain from shooting down my arm and my hand from going numb. It's a nerve thing.
Neck adjustments reduce my migraine headaches.
My chiropractor is married to a medical doctor. They work together for patient care. She also offers spinal & physical therapy which really helps the healing process and the progress is monitored via x-ray.
Ronald Regan worked for WOC radio in Davenport, IA. The call letters translate to "Wonders of Chiropratic" as Davenport is the home of Palmer Chiropratic College.

Well, on the bright side, she's gone down two pants sizes.

Prolly the more ya fight against it..the longer it'll take her to "get over it"...
My Father is a Chiropractor...he's into vitamins and some natural remedies... But he also goes to a MD..I do know a neck adjustment could reliever sinus pressure and pain for me.
