Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he is returning to golf at the Masters.
"The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta," Woods said in a statement.
"The major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played."
The Masters begins on April 8.
Woods has been on an indefinite leave from the game since a Nov. 27 crash outside his Florida home spawned revelations of marital infidelity. He has not played since Nov. 15, when he won the Australian Masters in Melbourne for his 82nd career victory.

Mods, feel free to move if you deem appropriate. Just got an ABC "breaking news" alert on this one, FWIW.

Can't wait to hear the catcalls coming out of the gallery on this one, dignity of the Masters or not.
Can't even imagine what it would be like had he tried to come back at Scottsdale.

I'll just post the link , not the golf gif.

Meh.
I don't think they put up with any BS from the crowd at Augusta, which is probably the biggest factor in him picking the Masters' for his comeback.

Yes, the "patrons" as they are called at the Masters have likely waited a LONG time to get those tickets. I would imagine the poo-bahs would happily take their tickets away permanently if anyone remotely gets out of line.

Yep. As it should be, IMHO. I'm not condoning Woods' actions by any stretch of the imagination, but the golf course is not the place to express displeasure at him.
I think he'll win the thing in a rout, myself. He'll be so charged-up to go back to that which he does the best, and that is to hit a little white ball around.

You might see some rowdy crowds elsewhere but not at the Masters. It will be interesting to watch what happens when he plays in following tournaments where any Joe Blow can buy a ticket to get in.

I agree, I don't condone what he's done, nor would I want to see people heckling him on the course.
I don't think he'll win or even be near the top of the leaderboard. He has too many distractions and is probably quite rusty.

I think in his therapy he was preparing for going back to the Masters

Runnin' Buddy's husband and my other half are big golfers and watch it on tv all the time. They both said when Tiger told everyone that he was leaving for a while, that he would be back at the Masters.'
Simply for the reason that you have stated DAT....the press passes are difficult to get, and anyone who is the least disrespectful, will be ejected.
People pay hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars, for these tickets if they can even be obtained. The people who attend the Masters' do not give a rat's patoot who the golfers are sleeping with.....just how they play the game of golf.

There was never a doubt that he wouldn't play The Masters. Nicklaus is within range.

No one will heckle at Augusta, and if they do it will be scrubbed from the sound track. Offenders will be ejected, lose ticket eligibility for themselves, for their children, and for unborn generations of grandchildren. No one screws around at Augusta National. Over fifteen years ago, Gary McCord made a wisecrack on the CBS telecast about how they "bikini waxed" the greens. The members were not amused, and he's still not allowed back at Augusta.
